This is something Ihave been working on and there are a couple ways I have worked on getting out of it. Here are some of the combos I have come up with. Some of them I haven't tried yet due to lack of pole height but in theory they would work. Wish I was near a pole right now, so I could check em out.
Marley > Flatline Gemini > Holly Drop
Marley > Apprentice > Superman
Marley > ITH > Scorpio or Gemini
Marley > ITH > Butterfly

Never heard of "barre" dancing before, but that performer does have her own website. She sells aerial instruction manuals and is supposed to be releasing an aerial hoop manual soon. I have her aerial fabric instruction manuals and have found them extremely helpful. I didn't see any mention of "barre dancing" on the website, but here is her website contact page if you want to get ahold of her… http://aerialdancing.com/AerialDancing/Contact.html.

I don't know if it's considered a drop, but the combo I love doing at the moment is a no handed cradle on spinning into a scorpio.

Thanks for the heads up, Theo. I added you on Fb to see the pic. DO you happen to know what ingredients they use?
-
I had the old X pole too, and it never made creaking boises, so it must be related to the new design.
-
I've heard about using shaving cream, but have never tried it myself. Does it matter which kind you use?

I have trouble gripping my chrome Xpert at times too, especially in the winter when it is dry and cold. The best thing I can suggest is to really warm the pole up before going into inversion holds. You can do this by dancing around the pole, doing two handed spins, slides, anything that transfers your body heat to the pole. It also helps you warm up as well.
I wipe my pole with a combination of 1/2 rubbing alcohol and 1/2 water solution, using a microfiber towel. For really bad days, I use Firm Grip Spray (spray rosin) to give my pole a light dusting. It has really worked for me.

My pole makes the creaking sounds to, but usually only when apply sideways force to it, ie big spins, handsprings, etc. My joints are still aligned though and I tighten them regularly. So I'm not sure what the cause is, but it is a little scary!

Thanks for the link Polefitmom, what a great find!

I've had this happen numerous times.. Trust me, it happens! Its always a good idea to check the pole beforeeach practice. Structures move and settle so the pole can come loose over time.

I can't stand looking at myself in video or pictures because of my posture. Wish I could stand up straighter but my shoulders are internally roatated so even if I try to puff out my chest a bit, it still looks as though I'm slouching. Also. I am terrible about not pointing my toes and my legs never seem to extend fully in moves. Even with my knees locked out, it still looks like they are slightly bent.
-
Wow Amy, how exciting!! Congratulations!!!
-
I've also done a handstand next to the pole with one arm on the pole and the other on the floor, then hook the outside knee, going into a gemini. But with that one I start from standing, bent over with my arms in place, then kick up into the handstand. Someone with better acro skills could probably do the same move from a shoulderstand… I think?
-
I haven't seen it done but I could imagine that you would hook the outside ankle and then go into a dangerous brian or ankle hang then pull yourself up? is there any swinging or spinning involved?
-
What do you mean by "plow from the floor?" I don't understand what your describing.

I have taken some extensive breaks from the pole myself, some due to injury and overuse, others because of just plain lack of inspiration and frustration. Sometimes I just get so angry at myself because I am not as talented and graceful as some of the other pole dancers that have been practicing half as long as me or have gymnastics/dance backgrounds and can twist their legs behind their necks or bend their backs in half. But then I have to remember that I started doing this for ME, not for anyone else, and I do it because I ENJOY it and want to challenge MYSELF and work to MY best ability. Its not a competition and I don't need to compare myself to everyone else. There is no one to keep up with but myself.
Sometimes a break is not a bad idea. Breaks give you time to regroup and let your muscles rest. And if you're pushing yourself to practice and not enjoying it anymore, then what is the point??? Its okay to take a break… If you're afraid of getting weak, try cross training with a different activity. Besides pole, I also practice aerial silks, trapeze and take hip hop dance lessons. I am by no means very good at any of those hobbies, but they all challenge me in different ways and still force me to practice being graceful and fluid. Not to mention they are also fun… so when I get too frustrated with one activity, I reach for anotther.
And like Chem said, sometimes you need to just let go of all the things that have you frustrated with yourself and just dance to DANCE… feel the music and enjoy the movement. That's when you need to just crank up the stereo, throw on your favorite mix and just move. Remember why you got a pole in the first place…You may find that is the little push you needed all along to get that spark lit again.

It's really not that bad, just a little more maintenance than a chrome pole. And you don't have to polish it that often. I have polished mine probably about four times in the last year. The grip advantage totally makes it worth it if you struggle with stainless steel and chrome poles. I have almost no grip on stainless and can only stick to chrome if I slather myself in grip aides, lol. With the brass pole, I can actually get through a song without stopping to wipe myself or the pole every 30 secs.

Yes I have fallen off the pole… Probably too many times to count, lol. Most of the time have been unharmed though. I did have had one incident that injured my neck and shoulder and kept me off the pole for two months, which totally sucked. I had just recently learned the CAR and was trying to do it with an arched back. I grabbed the pole behind my head and as I arched my back, I lost the grip inbetween my thighs and fell with my arm trapped under my head and onto my neck. It hurt for weeks and I couldn't even put on a shirt without my boyfriends help! Then it took several more months before I could practice that move again without trembling. Now, I make sure to throw a crashmat underneath when I'm trying new moves at home now.

Wow, I am so sorry to hear about this happening to you. I have had bad experiences with customer service, and its very frustrating when you invest your hard earned money into something and it backfires in your face. If I were you, I would definitely share this terrible experience on google reviews, yahoo, yelp, or what ever other review website you use. Most consumers make a lot of their choices based off of other customer reviews they read on the internet, and if you can't get your money back, you may be able to help others from falling into the same trap you. And I would definitely write them a letter stating your plans to report them to BBB. Maybe if they realize how poorly they treated you they may be more apt to return your money.

I have a brass pole and I love, love, love the grip! I clean it during practices with a 1/2 rubbing alcohol and 1/2 water solution. But even with regular cleaning it still gets tarnished over time. I use a generic metal polish on it every so often to get it all pretty and shiny again. The only problem with metal polish is that it has a small amount of oil in it to coat the metal and help prevent further tarnishing, which is good for the pole, but bad for grip! One of the members here shared a link with me on other ways to polish the pole (thanks Tine007). I haven't tried any of them yet because I have my chrome pole up at the moment, but they seem like pretty inexpensive and easy alternatives to metal polish.

I saw on another thread here that you shouldn't use vinegar on TG poles… something about chemical reaction would damage the coating. But vinegar is good to use on brass poles, it helps get rid of the tarnish.

– I just bought my silks and AM NOT an expert. I plan to put mine up in the spring and use a spanner, a carabiner, a swivel, another carabiner, and a rescue 8. I'm thinking of putting the spanner around a high tree branch in the back of my house! Now, just to figure out how to take them down easily when it rains. hmmm…. "
I saw a website that explains how to use rock climbing rope to rig the silks to a tree effectively. Maybe it will help you? Also, I'm not positive but I think the blogger of this site isamember here as well. Is this Kelioces? http://aerialempowerment.blogspot.com/2010/10/how-to-rig-aerial-apparatuses-from.html
