MemberAugust 10, 2010 at 2:15 am in reply to: Miss Georgia Pole Dance Competition October 22-24i am thinking about entering https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif i would enter as an amateur (obviously) lol! i have never even been to anything to do with pole, i have only poled alone at home so this would be a huge step for me!
i was wondering, do most people in the amateur division do a ton more than what is required? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif i have had my pole for about a year but i am 100% self taught & like i said, i have never been to a pole competition.**ETA: is it OK to use iTac2 or mighty grip gloves in a competition???
-
i have used the itac2 & i liked it a lot! i only use a grip aid when i use spinny mode https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif & i could use 1 application for about 40 mins on spin! that is a long time compared to my experience with might grip. i also felt it was easier to clean off your pole in comparison to MG when cleaning with windex.
my hands are usually not sweaty & i feel that the MG would work best with sweatier hands since it is a powder… the iTac2 is a "wax" (i guess thats what you wound call it) & it worked really well on my dry hands https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif i had gotten a sample size from iTac2’s facebook a few months back, i’m not sure if they still have the offer up but if you might try contacting them for a sample before you spend the $$ since things work differently with each persons body https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
ETA: i have a stainless steel pole

i would love to see something that was not made of strings! lol! but, still sexy & offers support && obviously no "spilling" out the top when i do inverts.
-
yes, please do https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif i would love to check it out!

i really enjoyed the bendy chat last night & i got a lot out of it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif i hope to "see" you all again next week!
-
it’s totally possible https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif i have a pole at home & i have never taken a class. i use online lessons, youtube & the art of pole DVD set https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

i have had my pole for 11 months & just last month i did my very first invert! & friday i got my first Gemini https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif i have never taken a class & i pole alone at home using DVD’s or online lessons & youtube. it’s OK to go at your own pace, i think it’s almost better that way so you don’t do things that are too advanced for you & get hurt…

i have to use my couch cushions right now because i cant afford a pole crash mat. they (the couch cushions) are annoying because you have gaps between them & that not really so safe in my book. also i don’t want to use grip aid when i am using my couch cushions because i don’t want to ruin them https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif the real pole crash mats have velcro on the edges so they stay together nicely, they wipe clean so you can totally use a grip aid & you can even wear heels on them https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif i want to get the professional pole-o-mat when i have the $$ to buy it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif right now i have to limit myself a lot because i can’t afford to get hurt.
http://www.thepoledancingshop.com/categories/Pole-Dancing-Poles/Pole-Dancing-Mats/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
there are several other mats out there too! google "pole crash mat" & decide what would work best for you!
good luck && be safe https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
**ETA i have cement floor under the carpet in my pole room so that is a big reason i am all for pole crash mats, it could be really bad if i "crashed" into the cement while trying to do inverts. i can’t afford to break my neck/shoulder/back & i kinda look at it as "safety insurance" if you don’t spend the $150-$300 & you get hurt it could cost a whole lot more than that to get you better! think about it… doctors bills, possibly having to pay for physical therapy (depending on how severe the injury) & missing work… all of those things could set anyone back in a really bad way! not to mention missing out on pole until you recover from said injuries https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif better safe than sorry!!!

i love pink lighting!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif i got pink christmas lights & i keep them on my trees (not christmas trees!, fake potted house plant/trees) in my pole room year round. i love the way it looks & feels!!!

even if the chat isn’t on a day where we all can join maybe we could get veena & the webmaster to make a permanent thread (somewhere easy to find) for us all to post our progress. i think having people to hold you accountable really helps when trying to do new things like this. lets face it, for most of us stretching isn’t the most fun https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif , even though the outcome is very desirable https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif
