Sometimes I had that problem when I had a powder coated pole, I say take advantage of the grip & work on tricks! The weather will change & you will be able to spin again 🙂

Get the lessons on here. I taught myself to pole & these are very helpful! Also invest in a good crash mat 😉

I have a 5 inch thick crash mat from yoga direct & I think it’s perfect. It’s a little too thick to dance on but it’s perfect when you are working on new tricks. It’s very well made & thick enough to keep you safe.

    that is so exciting!
i learned to pole from watching tutorials online, here at StudioVeena & on youtube. personally i learn best going at my own pace. i would recommend investing in a good crash mat before you start to invert, i like the 6inch thick crash mat from yoga direct. & of course make sure you are strong enough to do moves before you try them & make sure you have proper form/grips. when i was really new to pole i hurt my shoulder pretty bad from doing things i wasn’t ready for. oh & make sure you know how to get out of moves before you get in to them, lol. that sounds silly but when you are alone learning you can get in a move for the first time & then when you are ready to get out of it it’s like “oh crap! how do i get down without killing myself” lol.
all in all i say learning online is the way to go!

You would have to take it someplace to have it painted/powder coated. I got my powder coated pole from a place that also did metalwork & painted motorcycles. My powder coated pole is teal & it looks & feels like car/ motorcycle paint to me.

i used to have the same problem when i had a stainless steel pole. everything is going to effect your pole grip, the weather, humidity in your house, your skin type, pole material… lots of little things can make a big grip problem 🙁 maybe try a grip aid. might grip powder & iTac 2 both worked well for me on stainless when i was having major grip issues. don’t get discouraged.
oh & just because you need a grip aid on the pole you have doesn’t mean you will need one on other materials, i started with a stainless pole & since i started poling i have had a powder coated pole & a brass pole & i haven’t needed a grip aid with either one of those.
if you can’t figure out something with grip aids & need a whole new pole you can have your pole powder coated, it’s cheaper than a new pole & it would have major grip then, spins are a little harder at first & you will get serious pole burn at first adjusting but tricks are way easier on powder (IMO). but you can’t undo powder coating so i personally think that should be a last resort. just know you have options & don’t give up.

i had a shoulder injury a few years back & i can tell you from experience that you need to condition & do some strength training before you start back poling. also now that my shoulder is healed i always make sure to warm up extra EVERY time i pole. prevention is the best medicine… after you are healed of course! hope you heal quickly

i also have textured ceiling & carpet in my pole room, i have a platinum stages permanent pole (screws in ceiling & floor), it’s great & secure. just make sure you use a stud finder & if you are still not 100% sure there is a stud there (mine was flashing & beeping a lot) use a long nail & hammer to double check before installing the pole. (remove the nail after you check). i had a tension mounted pole years ago & it worked well on textured ceiling & carpet as well. just make sure you always find the stud when installing any pole.

i was home schooled my whole life. i loved it & i am so glad that my parents did that for me! a lot of the curriculums are (were) christian based, which is fine but when you decide on your history lessons make sure you include a non-christian curriculum even if you have to do secondary side projects. also make sure you find a group of home schooled families to get together with a few times a month for play days, craft days, field trips, dances… the things you would have in public school 🙂 we even had a home school year book for our little group.

March 4, 2014 at 7:49 am in reply to: Silly question but….

when i had a stainless pole i had to clean it several times during a pole session, i thought the 90% rubbing alcohol worked best for that pole. when i had a painted pole i would just wipe it down with a micro fiber cloth before i started poling for the day, that was it. & now that i have brass i am a dirty girl! lol! i have had it 11 months & cleaned it 2x! the brass works best with my skin if it’s “dirty”.
so i think it depends on what kind of finish you have on the pole & your skin type.

& i didn’t know you just applied the iTac to the pole! that would have been helpful when i had the stainless pole.

mirrors are a must! white boards are great. if you have any pics of pole poses you love you could hang them up. i am a sucker for lights so i always vote for fun lights… like christmas lights 😀

i just made a pole room tour video & posted it on here. i recorded it on my iPhone so its not great but it might give you some ideas.

try this with extreme caution! IF you have really dry skin you might try applying a water based lotion right after the shower. use it VERY sparingly & make sure to let it dry for at least an hour before you pole & wash the lotion off your hands & forearms. i have found both the vaseline intensive care lotion & the burts bees unscented body lotion work well for me on pole days. just be really careful & if you pole at a studio make sure you are trying this on a day when will have your own pole since lotion reacts differently with different skin types. it could help you grip & cause another girl to go flying through the wall. lotion / pole combo can be very trick & dangerous!

i don’t think there should be a dress code IF it’s a class with all women & a woman instructor, or all men & a man instructor. we all know the more skin exposed the better you can grip so that makes learning new tricks safer.
