I've been doing that climb at :30 too CapFeb lately and I love it because you can throw in a really nice body roll when moving up!
A little hard to see in this video but a tip to help with that one (for those that are practicing it and might not know) is notice how her right arm is extended high (but shoulder engaged) and her left arm has the pole against her left forearm. So the left hand is to the right of the pole and the elbow joint is to the right of the pole. You push with the left arm and pull with the right. That creates an amazing anchor to then completely pull your lower body up and make that pretty contact point between ankles and above knees!
The options are mind boggling… and beautiful!

Hi Sassyboots! All contributions are welcomed and we never know where our 'ah ha' moment will come from. Keep on contributing. 🙂
Hi Runemist34, yes… the Xpert tip is a toughie but what is amazing about it is it will get your body to really get a great grip with the lower body and then you can do really cool things with your climb. Maybe I should have said the outside side of the ankle has some contact… I was trying to say get as much contact on the length of the shin as possible and use that to 'push'. The push/pull and the leg grip (like in Xpert video) was really helpful for me.
There are many climb variations!
With my rear end… it would take a while for it to 'get up'… lol! If you have a really high reach with your shin yes it will be lower. My deal was I 'lingered' with it lower too long and it just wasn't pretty. I actually had an instructor run behind me once in a climb and grab my seat and push it up. Point taken!!! ha ha… I realized… huh… I need to lift my @ss up. LOL!
I love the climbing slide… I can't remember where I learned that but it isn't my idea. Still a great tip to share.

I've had a few people like Senrysa get excited and actually want to take some classes and buy some platform heels. That is my favorite reaction of them all… joy/curiosity/enthusiasm. 🙂

Tiffany does specialty stuff. I used the contact form on her website to inquire and get a quote. I've ordered shoes and had them shipped to her and she makes them Glitter-riffic and ships them to me. I LOVE Glitter Heels and am an addict of her Gorgeous shoes!!!

I had posted a discussion post on this a while ago and I got a great tip from PegasusAerialFitness. She mentioned some Home Depot mirrors.
I bought two of them and they have worked extremely well for me.

For the initial step up I like to position my shin across the pole at a diagonal… so on my right foot leading the climb my ankle would be to the left of the pole and my knee would be to the right. That gives me a whole lotta surface area for my 'push' motion with leg. Occasionally I will do a climb where the pole is between my ankles and above the tops of my knees so I do not have the shin as the main contact point. It just depends on how I am climbing. My biggest issue when learning climbs was 1) I did not do push/pull motions (push with shin, pull with upper body) 2) I didn't use a strong grip above to top of my knee to keep my body contacted well to the pole 3) My rear end would drop down before I would lift up.
For now keep your foot bent if that helps you with contact point and the mechanics while you pretty your climb. Once you get that down… practice a climb with toes pointed down.
Also, if your pole is short at home and you can only get one good climb in before you run out of room… release your tension to slide down a bit and then initiate your climb again after you've slid down a few feet. You can build great climbing strength this way and you don't lose contact with your pole so it sort of simulates a longer pole.
This is a really nice free tutorial from XPert called the 'Single Climb Squat'

Keep at it… you will do great!

I've had a few negative reactions here or there but I won't own other people's issues. Big ole so what if someone doesn't like it or understand my reasons. Gaining acceptance of every person in the world is not on my to do list.
I don't justify my reasons or passion. There is nothing wrong with poling regardless of the style. If people want to rock out in a thong and 7 inch platforms… go for it! If they want to do so barefoot in a sundress… that's great too!
My most insulting comment was I am "too smart to do (pause) … 'that'". That comment still makes me laugh. I told them that I am intelligent and I also love to pole and they should try it sometime.
You will find a very supportive community of pole lovers here. Have fun with it and let those haters show themselves out of your life.

I wash my hair every 4-5 days, you are not alone! I put it up when I shower/bathe so I can get my body clean but not get my hair wet. It works great for me. 🙂

I really like variety. If I do the same thing every day… I will get bored and stop. So I group my pole sessions into buckets of strength, flexibility, floorwork, sexy transition. I do strength 2-3 times a week and that is the climbing, push up, inverts, pole holds and cursing part of my week. I do flexiblity about 4 times a week and I love it, it is my relaxation time. I do floorwork once or twice a week… and sexy transition (walks, spins, transition moves, attitude) I work on during other workouts or just for fun.
To stay inspired i like to YouTube my favorite videos and watch in awe. 😀 I have personally found practice is critical for me to improve. I also video things I am working on so I can see where my form needs to improve.
I hope you find something that continues to 'light your pole fire'. 🙂

Nutrition and hydration are very imporant and I have found that helps my hair. For managing hair when it is in that inbetween stage I would use tons of pony tails and claw clips to keep it out of my face.
Also you can have different bang styles to add variety while the rest is growing. There are the betty page style bang, side swept bang, pompadour bang etc etc etc. Sometimes that will allow you to have something you can change and play with style wise while waiting for the rest to grow into it's final style.

Hi Lindsey,
Only you really know what the best for you is and what you are willing to accept. It sounds like he has significant insecurities and control issues. It is a wonderful thing to have someone support you in your hobbies and passions, something he clearly doesn't seem able to do.
If you go forward with the showcase I hope you have a blast and maybe he will come around.

I like to see things that help me make a decision about even walking through the door. Location, Class Schedule, Class Descriptions, Teacher Bios (important to note that this would be any certifications such as Personal Trainer, CPR certified and/or placement in comps. (I am totally okay if there are no certifications or placements However I still want to see a picture of their face and get a summary of their dance background/teaching philosophy)). Studio pictures and Class Rates. I also like to see the studio waivers available either by hyperlink or online acceptance and how a student is expected to register for class.

*ouch*… those instructors were extremely demotivating. We can always improve our skills and gain new skills. You level of fitness and strength and dance confidence can improve with practice.
We all progress at our own speed. If you have a goal to pole dance, don't let anyone stop you. You've come to the right place.

I'm 5'8" and lately have taken to 7.5" shoes. That pretty much makes me a giant on the pole and I tower over almost everyone. The biggest issue I have found is that I have less working pole space on shorter poles and I need more space around it to dance. My form and artistry is all me and I would expect nothing less or more of myself if I was a different height.
My personal opinion is that we need to find a place to rest inside these bodies of ours. That means never being 'too tall' 'too short' 'too old' 'too skinny' or 'too' anything.
Put those shoes on an rock your tall long body! You can be a beautiful dancer, don't second guess your height for another second. Have fun with it. Plus if you ever need to clean the top of your fridge or dust your ceiling… you can put your dance shoes on and have it covered. There is no cabinet or shelf I can't dominate now! 🙂

Yandy.com has Thongs galore and a nice selection under the $10. price point. They also have front and back views so you can see the different details of each garment.
http://www.yandy.com/Shopping/home/cat_thong.asp
Even places like Target have thong underwear for much lower prices. I prefer thongs made of fabric blends so the garment will keep it's shape and not stretch/gap over time.
If you find them uncomfortable you may consider changing into them with your other pole apparel and then changing out into your normal garments after pole time. Or in time maybe you will find a new preference.

If I'm going to freestyle just for me dancing then I focus on tuning into my feelings and letting the music guide my movements. I normally incorporate something I am working on into the freestyle or I have a goal like focusing on flow, transition, projection. If I am going to freestyle for an audience then I will have a general idea of some moves that I want to hit throughout the dance and also some clustering regarding how much floor/pole work I want to throw in. That way I feel like I can use all of my space better.
I love freestyle… I find it the most intimate and liberating way to dance.

I love Natural hair and ladies (and gents) that rock it! My natural hair dreads easily so that is what I work with now. I get many compliments on my hair but honestly I feel it comes from me embracing my hair's unique beauty.
Define your own Sexy, don't let another's standards dim your light. Expirement and find what works best for you but always remember the hair you were born with IS beatiful. As is the hair that you create though different styles, colors and accessories.
It may take some time to cultivate that inner acceptance but it is so worth it.

Hello and welcome!!! Was looking at your blog and will look forward to reading through it! Rock those booty shorts and yes 1000+ level up for raising an eyebrow or two during your chair dance class!

Tarah if it is right for you that will resonate from you. I get far more compliments with dreads than I ever did when I would spend hours and hours straightening my hair. I accepted my natural texture and embraced what I consider beautiful, I feel it shows and others are drawn to that confidence and authenticity.
If you try it and it isn't right for you, that's totally okay. At least allow yourself the experience just to follow through on your curiousty.
… and post some pics! 😉
