That's awesome! It appears to be out of stock on that website though – I'm trying to look around but I can't find anywhere else to purchase it. Does anyone know of another source it can be purchased from?

MemberFebruary 1, 2012 at 8:18 am in reply to: My competition routine – please critiqueI agree with all of the above, and as far as the "lazy inverting" goes, it would be awesome if you could work on cleaning that up because (in addition to the non-pointed toes in some places), it really took away from the routine. It's almost hard to watch you do all of these graceful moves – including a perfectly beautiful split grip crazy-advanced move – and then see you not being able to execute an invert with the same ease, especially because the rest of the routine was so beautiful! And the ending was perfect – I LOVE that spin!

ahahah i love that last one 🙂

*Hey check out this huge bruise I got the other day!

I tried this move (from the floor with cupped grip) for the first time last week and I have a few questions:
1. Does anyone else get a weird friction rub on the back/side of your head where the pole is when you flip over, and is this something that can be fixed? Even my instructors feel this – is it a sign of imperfect technique or something that can eventually be ignored?
2. How long is the pole supposed to contact your shoulder as you flip? I'm worried about it hitting my collarbone as I reach the floor on the other side…
3. How do you position your legs? I've usually seen this move done as a pike, but Marlo leads with one leg and then the other one comes to the floor like @3:20 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWSG3CU3SyA It looks like Marlo's version is more stable (although she doesn't seem to be looking at the floor as she goes over) and I like the look of it better – does anyone else do it this way?
Any other tips for someone just learning the move?

I loved your performances at the Resolve This! Showcase in Maryland. I wanted to congratulate you afterwards but I ended up leaving in a hurry. Your freestyle was very impressive. (I was also a performer in the showcase and you helped me with the stage pole during the pole jam) 🙂

Me too!!! I'm going to start this semester if I have any extra time – if not, definitely this summer. I'd also love any tips. Best of luck with your training!!! 🙂

sorry for the broken links – you'll have to recopy them into your browser without the ) at the end, and for the last one, type "wordpress.com vs. wordpress.org" into google and it's the first link 🙂

You could try Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/) if you just want a way to sell products. It's great for listing stuff but might not be the best choice for a stand-alone website where you have control over all of the formatting and can post other stuff (like contests). WordPress (http://wordpress.com/) is pretty good too if you have a lot of other content – although you don't have control over formatting unless you purchase a domain and find a hosting site. Aerial Amy has a website that uses a WordPress template but I believe she pays for the url to be her own (and not contain "wordpress" in the url) plus several other benefits so you should ask her how that works if you're interested (although the site has some fairly good instructions itself: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/). I'm not sure how PayPal works, but you could probably find a way to do it if it's a stand-alone site if you do some research (I don't think you're able to do it on a normal blog, for instance, due to restrictions). However, Etsy does use PayPal already and I think it's pretty easy to set up an account.

This might not help you if you have dry hands, but I have very sweaty hands so I use a combination of Tite Grip (which is an antiperspirant for the hands, not a grip aid) underneath Prince Tennis Grip and that has worked the best by far for me (and I've tried Mighty Grip, iTac, Gorilla Grip, Dry Hands, and several others). I've never seen Tite Grip sold in a store but I think the inconvenience is well worth it. Prince Grip used to be sold in Dick's Sporting Goods, but I have checked that store in two different cities and they aren't currently carrying it – not sure if that's a temporary/seasonal thing or what. Instead they were carrying some other brand I've never heard of that ended up smelling terrible and it wasn't effective at all. I don't remember what it was called because I had to return it immediately. I haven't checked many other sports stores yet though since there aren't too many in my area.

Thanks!
@amy- I’m not supporting myself at all with the skin contact on my torso. I just happened to get into the move this way, but I was testing out placement and balance in different ways too. I have another pic somewhere where I’m more to the side of the pole. -
post some here if you find any cool ones! 🙂

MemberJanuary 9, 2012 at 3:01 pm in reply to: Platinum Stages and X-Pole Side By Side DemoI think it's great that Platinum Stages is making such an effort to improve their poles. The only (small) issue I have with the video is that it appears that both poles actually wobble about the same amount, although Veena might be putting more muscle into making the Xpole wiggle. After trying out the XSL for the first time this weekend (and a brand new one at that that had never been set up before), I was surprised to find that it did, in fact, give more than I expected it to (at least from what was suggested in the comparison video). From what I remember about being on a PS stage pole over the summer, the XSL did seem more stable all around, but the pole does move back and forth (as I'm sure any freestanding pole would, especially the higher up you are on the pole). Yet I do understand that it is much different watching a video of someone taking a spin on the pole and actually trying it out yourself, especially after watching the video a second time and seeing the pole give when Veena spins on it in the video. Oh, and one more thing – the base of the XSL was noisier than I expected it to be considering the fact that I was walking on it in bare feet, but that can't really be helped and isn't a big deal when I consider all of the other things I like about it. All in all it's a great comparison video, and after taking all of the pros and cons about both poles into consideration (and after having tried them both out myself), I think the 45mm XSL is my new dream pole, and it will definitely be my next big purchase when I decide to get a second pole! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gifNow if only I could afford one….

Tried searching for “shiny sequin bra top” on bad kitty and got no results. I know they have a lot of belly dance sequin bra tops that have fringe and stuff on them, and they have the matching sequin sets (top and bottom), but does anyone know where to find a simple (non-scratchy) sequin top to match the bad kitty sequin shorts? Been looking for one for a while with no luck, preferably in green…
