I had another practise and it still felt crappy (I can’t tell if looked any better as laptop webcam playing silly buggars) at least I know what I need to work on.Think also it’s the fear screwing me over a little, I’ve never fallen off the pole or done myself an injury while practising, but for some reason it’s so scary! -

Beautifully put Veena. I think it’s a useful resource if taken at your own pace. I’ve been doing the middle splits stretches on average 3 times a week and have a very wide straddle, it’s so close but not quite 180 degrees. Maybe an inch off either side. Maybe I could have done it quicker but I’m happy with my progress (though struggling with getting the last bit) and I enjoy stretching. It hasn’t become a chore which I think it would if I was really pushing it.

Quite a bit of information there! It seems that a wide straddle helps every thing! After warming up and stretching I have a really wide straddle (so damn close to splits it’s driving me crazy, but it doesn’t translate to polemoves so well, I need to build up more strength. My turn out is kinda crappy, docs thought I had something wrong with my hips when I was little as. I was so pigeon toed. Training my middle splits has been a real help and my feet look pretty normal when walking but the further out to my sides my legs go, the more my feet want to turn in. Lefty is particularly prone to it. Thanks for all your input guys 🙂

So I had a go with one leg bent and that worked pretty well and actually managed a fully straight one by accident as weirdly I came all the way up and then bent it! I cannot get the hang of the ankle tap though. I either am concentrating so hard on getting up there I forget or have trouble co ordinating myself. (Body and spatial awareness are very much works in progress for me.) I watched your example video @PoleFitMom your invert is so smooth and your chopper looks so nice, your feet are pointing down at the floor as opposed to straight out like mine. Is that hamstring flexibility? I can never work out what it is that makes moves look so different on different people. For example veenas Scorpio with straight outside leg is such a great shape her back leg straight out and I have no idea if it’s back flex, hip flexor or both!

As always, awesome tips ladies. I’ll give them a go later. Am intrigued by the ankle tap! @ Lina, beautiful video and gorgeous example. Is it any easier on spinning?

Thanks for your replies guys. I’m. So excited! I figured they’d probably be pretty different but I have never been to a workshop before and while I like Sarah Scott. Pantera is…. Yeah. So I wanted to hav experience of being taught by an awesome pole star to try and make me be less of a pathetic fan girl for Pantera if you know what I mean? I’ll have to get working on my list. It’s been good inspiration. I managed a shouldermount deadlift twist up thing ,(twice, so is legit)*grins*

Yeah I had a lot of trouble with distance from the pole and I think against a wall will be more helpful all round til I get the technique.
-
@Haloanne. Yes! That is exactly it. Very nice btw. You and Lina have this elbowstand thing down! Hmmm, ok I think I remember the distance problem from the last time I tried this. Two different moves to practise then and link then! I’ll go have a practice and see what happens. Thanks for the tips guys 🙂

@Jolene, apologies, I seem to have Bogarted your thread. Please feel free to tell me to sod off. @Lina ah, I think I do know what you mean about engaging through the hands. With the elbow stand as you lift most or actually all of the weight through your hands, if you lift your head off the floor completely would that translate to helping you with forearm stands? I I don’t really know the mechanics and while I get that there is a different part of your arm touching the floor, it seems like it would help. That may be an incredibly stupid question and of so Im, sorry, it’s just I’ve found that some things you think will help use totally different muscles etc and so aren’t always as helpful as imagined!
-
But can’t work out how to lift up when balanced on head and elbows, I can elbowstand against the pole and as I said I can deadlift a Headstand so it’s frustrating that I can’t work it out! I want that move where from laying on your belly on the floor, you cup your hands round the bottom of the pole and pull yourself in then deadlift up. It just looks so damn cool! Sorry for split post, phone is a pain.
-
Hey Lina, forearm stands are what I meant. I read that a good tip for keeping the arms from moving is to have a yoga block gripped tightly between your hands and squeeze . It did seem to work. I am also struggling with deadlift elbow stands. I can do deadlift handstands,(as in just head and hands on floor in tripod )
-
If you ever find the secret let me know. I tried it the other day, with hands either side of a yoga block and walking my feet up the wall, and even with the wall taking a load of weight it was essentially impossible!
-
I’ve never had the sick feeling, but after a really good stretching session I feel realIy dopey, almost drugged. It’s different to the ‘Ive had a really intense . workout, I’m knackered, I’m gonna sleep well tonight’ feeling. It’s weird the effect it has on the body!

Yogini, yogi lift/mount or yogi flip?

Just to chuck in my thoughts for what they’re worth. As been said the numbers don’t tell the whole story, how your clothes fit can be a good indicator or photos a few months apart if trying to track fat loss. But at the end of the day how you feel in your body and what it can do for you is so much more important. For years the numbers on the scale completely ruled my life and the acceptable number got smaller and smaller. I’m certain if I stepped on the scales now I would be absolutely horrified as it would be most definitely over my previous ‘acceptable’ number. However I used to be weak, unhealthy and unfit and now I can do an aerial v invert, shouldermount and many other things. You rock that pole! The numbers can only have the importance and power we give them and that power is ours goddamnit! We’ve worked for it!

Advice please!Yeah I am a little bit overexcited about Pantera goddamn queen of pole Blacksmith being in the studio at the same time as me. It’s a great opportunity and so I want to get the most out of it and was wondering what other people’s experiences were. I’m glad I have the Sarah Scott one first as I’ve not been to any workshops before so will gimme adv chance to work out what I’m doing before the Pantera one .

If you need the whole thigh then fold over may be too long for you, as I have a pair and love them as I don’t like to expose too much but it may depend on how tall you are and your proportions. I’m a short arse in all senses!

This was one I struggled with for what felt like forever and one day I was really, really bloody angry with it and it felt like it was pure rage that got me up there! Looking back I think annoyance made my arms and shoulder lock more solid as I was really pulling in on it, I hadn’t realised how much I’d need to pull. I remember we did tucks and kicks with the shoulder mount arm position as well as the dismount for prep. Don’t know what anyone thinks of those?

Wow, that woman has skills. I am probably half her size and not even half as graceful.
-
No problem! Yeah while it’s a long way off, it’s such a rich topic with various angles and of personal interest to me, that it seems perfect. Thanks for that bit of info. 🙂

Hi there, happy to help 🙂 I’m just starting my second year of a Bsc Psych degree (after a break of several years) were you able to find much previous research related to pole dance?

The woman is fluid beyond belief. The bit in this video about 35 seconds in where she lifts her legs from kneeling and stands up is deceptively simple looking, but so beautiful. I tried it, it was not fluid… I guess it’s strength and extreme control, gotta work on it.

I managed to get to the floor (practising middle/box splits knees up) with my legs as wide as I can get them, but it’s just a really wide straddle not 180 degrees. It’s progress though 🙂
