My 1st time meeting Amber (Fleur) was at a workshop and I froze! LOL She is such an amazing dancer and drop dead gorgeous *sigh* I had never been on a 45mm pole and didn't want to make a big deal out of it cause I wanted to be in the back corner. haha. well I could barely sit on it and then my forearm stand was horrible cause I had never done it off of my carpet! I was mortified.

Veena and I live a town away from eachother so we get to pole or hang out sometimes…I am finally able to speak coherently around her. LOL I still feel like bowing and repeating "I'm not worthy!" when I see her pole though. haha

I would recommend the Lil Mynx poles! I am hearing more and more great reviews of them and also their customer service and manufacturing process. More and more complaints are coming down the wire towards the new xpert poles. 🙁 They will corrode and I have friends whose TG is completely worn through. I too had to send my new TG pole back due to gouges in the finish. The Lil Mynx colored poles are the way I'd go now. 😀 Good Luck!

aw she's working the chair, spinny pole, and swing. NICE! 🙂 LOL I love when my kids put their magnetic "my little pony's" all over my pole and spin them around….haha.

Oh I had my 1st fall this week! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif  Check my blog for the whole stupid story. Just got the caterpillar climb and felt pretty damn cocky about it and decided I could "try" an aysha…yeah well, I saw the floor coming at me pretty quick, tucked my head in and landed on my left shoulder really hard (felt like the wind was a bit knocked out of me). I was afraid to move! I feel pretty lucky I didn't hurt anything, just a few days of soreness. I think one thing that freaks me out is that I never really let go of the pole with my hands and I am really surpised I didn't hurt my wrist or elbow.

I am a VERY careful poler too. Usually have my trusty spotter (husband) and a giant pillow under me….lesson learned! Be safe, injuries set you back a lot.

Thanks SO much for sharing your thoughts on this! You all pretty much confirmed what I want most. I am sick of sitting on my fav tunes and telling myself to wait. 🙂 I thought about it today and one of the songs I LOVE I heard right after I started taking pole classes. WTH? I can do it again someday! I love that. You guys rock. AND I am relieved to read that I am not the only one who suffers from a "dancing block" esp. floorwork–I always do the same stuff!

March 29, 2011 at 2:54 pm in reply to: Foam Roller…couple of questions

I think Veena's foam roller lessons will be a huge hit! Last weekend she ran through the basics of foam roller use with me and helped me use her roller and OMG it felt so freaking good! (some places that were really tight it was tender at 1st, but it loosened up quickly). Veena showed me different ways to hold yourself to modify the amount of pressure (and good pain!) you feel. She then ran me through several stretches after the roller use and I felt so much more comfortable going into my side splits (sometimes I'd get this shooting pain in my rear, but the muscles all felt much more relaxed) I was really surprised how tight certain areas were and I think as Sassafrassle said, I would pause and let the muscle release…this was gentle/slow rolling with pressure as tolerated. It felt GREAT! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

my 1st pole "experience" was at a party! We all had a great time–we learned a little strip tease with a mens shirt, a boa, some wall work, then a bit of pole and chair. It was so much fun and there was plenty of time for photos at the end which was what we were all hoping for. HTH!

you have gotten LOTS of great advice here and I just wanted to say I too understand! Poling does NOT come easily to me and I can be terribly self conscious, I have never been athletic before. BUT, I love this!!! It isn't easy and there are prob. more reasons to quit than to carry on, but the reasons to keep at it are worth it! If you love it, do it! If its making you miserable, its just fine to take a brake too. 🙂

I shave mostly, but plan on doing the laser removal next year sometime. Did brazilian waxing for the past year and loved it, but it got $$$.

I have to share this video with you guys cause it is too perfect for this thread.

GREAT discussion here! I struggle with confidence and feeling comfortable in my own skin. I have posted a few videos on here and it hasn't been easy! BUT I knew it was something I needed to do–I've been making pole videos in my head for a year now. LOL Part of the reason I got into pole dancing was that I was completely head over heels watching these amazing, confident, strong dancers! I wanted more than anything to have that for myself…its a work in progress, but I'm getting there (I hope!). I try very hard to not worry about what others think and do what makes me happy.

Pole hugs all around! LOL 😉

This is a great discussion! I most appreciate seeing creative expression through dance balanced both on and around the pole. I do want to speak up for those of us who are not very advanced and yet still put a lot of heart and soul into our dance–I find I cannot smoothly perform several aerial combinations without coming down to the floor in between…with more strength that will come.
I also want to say that music choice for me is HUGE as so much feeling is found there as well.

Let me know how you like it! I had a sample a few months ago, but it almost seemed dried out in the plastic cup?? It went on sorta "chunky" and left little bits all over my pole…so I'm not sure I really applied it right. It was grippy for sure, but really messy. SO many people seem to love it, so I keep feeling like I should give it another go.

Hi MissKitty! I too own a 50, but am planning on ordering a 45mm soon. I have had my 50 for about a year, mostly pole at home. I know personally I am SO much stronger on the 45mm…the leg grip will take some getting used to for me. Will you be taking classes in a studio with 50mm poles or will you mostly be on your "home" pole? I have a studio not too far away that has all 45's there. Maybe you should see if there is somewhere you could try out a 45 and see if it "feels" right? Good luck!
