Is your pole removable or permanent??? Removable would make this a bit easier to solve…
Also does your dad know about you poling, or is it kinda a secret? If he already knows then maybe you could just ask him. If he doesn’t know, then you’ll have 2 issues to solve.
If he already knows, I’d say just flat-out ask him if he would mind. If you have a removable pole you could maybe tell him you’ll take it down when you’re not using it and that could be a compromise if he doesn’t like the idea. Maybe he has a garage or back room he never uses or something that you could put it in??
If he comes out with a definite "no", then I’m not sure what to tell you. I mean, grad school is definitely more important than poling; and I actually did rack up over 50K in student loans from 3 years of undergrad (and didn’t even finish), so I can tell you that the savings in money is a HUGE plus. You don’t want to be paying over $700 a month like I am in loans just so you can keep your pole… So in that case, I’d say you’d have to decide how important poling is to you: important enough to make the long drive every so often to practice or not?
I wish I had something more upbeat to say, so hopefully someone else can come up with a good idea for you…

Oh ditto to Kerrie’s about getting the chrome x-pole! The grip on it is actually great (compared to my old pole, which was also chrome). It’s a nice medium. But then again, like I said, I haven’t used anything else, so… my opinion is rather biased. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif but I haven’t had any problems doing either spins or holds on my chrome; I’m very happy with it.
Oh, and just a random side note: someone else on here, I can’t remember who, said that the titanium gold is slighty grippier than the titanium silver (which the titanium silver isn’t even available in the US, anyway). So you could add that to the list if you want.

I’ve never used anything other than chrome, but I hear stainless steel is the worst with grip. I think chrome is slightly better, and titanium and brass are the best. I think brass is better than titanium, but I can’t vouch for that…
So I think the order from worst to best is:
steel ~> chrome ~> titanium ~> brassbut I’m not 100% sure (this is just assumptions from what I’ve heard) but it’s something along those lines, definitely.
But yes, you really did go from one extreme to the other. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif I give up… the one post said "I HAD it DELIVERED" so I assumed the usage of the past tense meant it had been delivered. But making the delivery arrangements without the actual delivery itself taking place would still warrant the use of the past tense, so….
Ok sorry, was a Spanish major in college so I read quite a bit into grammar sometimes. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif

My pole is in my bedroom and not much room. You can see it in my videos if you want to look… I kicked the wall in one of my vids (it’s in the bloopers). The closest wall is like… um, if I stand with one hand on the pole, I can stretch out that inside arm and maybe reach part-way out to the other side. I don’t dare get it any closer than that. I have the corner of my bed about the same distance away on the other side, but it’s not nearly as invasive and I can usually kick my legs over it when spinning. I can’t move it anywhere else because of the position of the joists…
The pole goes up and down easily enough, just put it up somewhere and walk around it and see if you’re comfortable with the space; you don’t even have to tighten it all the way, just kinda leave it in one piece (careful of the dome!) and walk it around with you. When you find a place you like, make sure a joist is right there and tighten her up!

Veena, how many poles do you have??? How tall are they, what rooms are they in, how long have you had each one of them??? Are they all chrome??? And what are your favorite letters of the alphabet???
Give us some juice to work with and maybe we’ll suggest something you like. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Yay glitter! What was it you were saying about being stuck in a rut??? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif
And you can brag all you want – you worked hard for this move and it’s part of what this forum is made for!!

Yeah it would be great, Lily! I just need some pole partners to jam with, first! No one here poles!!! But maybe if I gave a good enough demo a few people would get into it. If I can’t find any pole partners, I’ll just make ’em myself!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Yes Jungle, I got the pole https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif Read back through the posts – I posted when I got her! My new videos were all on my new pole, too
And Heather, my first pole was a pole I got at Spencer’s, too – the carmen electra pole. I went the extra lengths to screw it to both the ceiling and the floor. The x-pole doesn’t do either and it feels SOOO much more solid!! I’ve never had it slip, either. Just make sure everything is tight when you put it up and check on it before you use it. Jungle Cat had quite the tumble on his not too long after getting it, but it was user error on his part (no offense, Jungle – trying to instill some confidence in the x-pole here! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif )

I got my pole not too long ago and the packaging isn’t that obvious… just be prepared – the box weighs nearly 40 pounds, and it’s like 3 feet long by 2 feet wide or something like that. (my box is still on the porch, I should go measure it…) It’ll have a couple warning labels on the side of it that are like bright orange, but I think they just say something about the wax or whatever they put on it to protect the pole. The rest is regular ol’ white labels that will say x-pole with the return address, but it’s not like there’s a huge "X-POLE STRIPPER POLE!" label on it or anything. When the delivery guy took it to my mom’s house (couldn’t get to my house), he told her he thought it was a swing of some kind; so there you go, even the guy handling the box couldn’t tell what it was! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Haha that’s great Jungle! There’s a bar in my town that has a pole in the dance floor, which I danced on once and was what made me want to do "real" pole dancing. There’s no stage with it or anything, it’s just kinda there. It’s a rather seedy bar, but if I ever go back, I’ll be able to put on a real show! (provided the pole is a real one and not a prop, it was dark and my memory fails me…)

I was guilty of this, myself, although no one ever caught it or scolded me when I posted videos of my inverts. I’m getting much better! I actually probably kicked one leg up instead of an actual jump, but either way… The worst part about it is if your grip is lacking and you don’t realize it, your body is already off the floor! I did that a few times: kick up and slide down the pole almost instantaneously. Plus I have low ceilings and have actually kicked the ceiling or the dome on my x-pole, so that put a damper on that method really quickly. I still have to give a little swing with my outside leg now and then when I’m warming up to help get my body going in the right direction, but for the most part I don’t need it anymore – and I’ve only been poling for a month.
