Hehe that’s the curse with me and it never fails – as soon as you say something, it happens.

Half the time I just say something from the start so I don’t waste my time trying for so long! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Ditto to Veena – 1) post a vid 2) practice from the floor.

What I used to do was get in the invert and slide down until the top of my shoulders were resting on the floor, just enough to take a bunch of my weight but not enough to damage my neck in the process. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif Then I would keep my legs in the same position and just hold myself there. That way I was getting myself comfortable in that position leg-wise, could get a feel for where exactly the pole needed to rest between my knees and thighs, and I could work on strengthening my legs. Plus the slow sliding that is bound to result helped me get used to pole burn and eventually make my skin used to it do I don’t get it at all!

I have to go back to this to learn to invert from my left side. If I manage to even kick my outside leg up without doing it wrong and crashing my ribs into the pole, I usually keep trying to switch my legs as if I were still inverted on the other side! So I need to get accustomed to it from the other side before I fall and hurt myself…

Good luck and let’s get a vid up! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Awww thanks for that, Veena. I’ve kinda beat myself up for how I look after I had my girl, and even though I know I look a heck of a lot better than most people do before they have kids. I have tiny little boobs that have managed to sag slightly from the breastfeeding, and I have some looser skin around my tummy. My stomach was perfectly flat before baby, and it probably would be if not for that loose skin. I managed to keep my belly ring, but am often afraid to even show it off because to me, anyway, I look horrible. I catch myself in the mirror when I’m pole dancing and wish I still have my flat tummy and the stretch marks on my hips weren’t there…

But then again, I have to remember how much of a tax it is on the body to be pregnant. Your entire torso’s worth of organs are re-arranged and your stomach sticks out further than anything on your body, not to mention what x-number of months worth of inactivity from the pregnancy and the months afterwards of even more of it from taking all your time taking care of the baby! It’s actually amazing how resilient the human body actually is to the whole process!

Lots of people jeer that I have no room to talk about thinking I don’t look good – "Look at you, you’re a twig!" which may be true, but it’s not what I used to be and the change is depressing. But, I look at my daughter and I know it was worth it. It’s the price of motherhood. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

It’s ok for venting – if you can’t vent here, where else could you???

What kind of pole do you use??? If it’s titanium or brass or something maybe that could be why the spins are so difficult. If it’s not and it’s chrome or something, then I would suggest maybe just prepare for a dizzy fest! Just walk around the pole and just randomly spin around the pole- no form in particular, just focusing on getting your momentum around the pole. And without seeing any videos I’m just taking a stab in the dark here, but do you jump on the pole to spin, or wrap your legs around it??? One thing I had to learn to do was make sure to swing that outside leg out and around the pole then pull your inside leg up behind you. Actually jumping may stop the momentum. Like I said, I’m not sure, need to see a vid… But you could try just walking around the pole for a long time, going into a fireman spin or something, then getting back up and keeping going. Who knows, you may stumble into it and have one of those "ah-ha!" moments.

It’s just an idea, it may or may not work for you… (or maybe you’ve already tried it, I dunno)

Hey Veena here are some names I found, some "girly" and/or simple and some more…. um, profound, let’s say: (I threw a few guy names in there, too)

    Kyla
    Kaden (or Caden)
    Keisha
    Kiley
    Konnor (or Connor)
    Sabastian
    Sage
    Sakura
    Scarlet
    Selena
    Spencer
    Sherman
    Sterling
    Sydney
    Serenity
    Scepter
    Sapphire
    Sapphira
    Shiloh
    Vixen
    Valencia
    Vera

Just a few of the ones I found that jumped out at me… dunno if you’ll like them or not.

You’re lucky that you have more than one pole, though. You can pick more than one name! My problem is narrowing the search, so I’d be good to go if I had more than one pole because I wouldn’t have to pick just one name! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_jokercolor.gif

I’d say name your favorite pole/the one you use the most the name you like the best, or pick a more "user-friendly" name for that one. Because when you have a friend, you tend to give that friend a pet name and it’s generally shorter. Your fav pole is like your best friend, right? So I think it would make sense to have a more practical name for that one. In this case that would be the 45mm, right?

I would say the 50mm-12 ft. one warrants a more profound name. Not only do you use it not as much, but it’s huge! Someone else named their pole Balthasar or something like that which is a really heavy name, and a name along those lines I think would be good for that pole.

    That’s my 2 cents, I hope I helped get you thinking. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

YAY!!! Splits are on my list, too, I just have to start religiously stretching… but it’s nice to see someone who got it after working at it themselves! Congrats! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I have textured ceilings, too, except they’re a type of ceiling board (darn mobile homes!) instead of the plaster-y stuff that you appear to have. You shouldn’t have any problems, it looks pretty smooth. Just when you’re tightening the adjuster screw on the pole don’t let the dome spin against the ceiling or anything like that. And if the stuff isn’t very solid, it may make some crinkling noises when you’re doing the final tightening on the pole.

    Congrats on the grad school!

Is your pole removable or permanent??? Removable would make this a bit easier to solve…

Also does your dad know about you poling, or is it kinda a secret? If he already knows then maybe you could just ask him. If he doesn’t know, then you’ll have 2 issues to solve.

If he already knows, I’d say just flat-out ask him if he would mind. If you have a removable pole you could maybe tell him you’ll take it down when you’re not using it and that could be a compromise if he doesn’t like the idea. Maybe he has a garage or back room he never uses or something that you could put it in??

If he comes out with a definite "no", then I’m not sure what to tell you. I mean, grad school is definitely more important than poling; and I actually did rack up over 50K in student loans from 3 years of undergrad (and didn’t even finish), so I can tell you that the savings in money is a HUGE plus. You don’t want to be paying over $700 a month like I am in loans just so you can keep your pole… So in that case, I’d say you’d have to decide how important poling is to you: important enough to make the long drive every so often to practice or not?

I wish I had something more upbeat to say, so hopefully someone else can come up with a good idea for you…

Oh ditto to Kerrie’s about getting the chrome x-pole! The grip on it is actually great (compared to my old pole, which was also chrome). It’s a nice medium. But then again, like I said, I haven’t used anything else, so… my opinion is rather biased. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif but I haven’t had any problems doing either spins or holds on my chrome; I’m very happy with it.

Oh, and just a random side note: someone else on here, I can’t remember who, said that the titanium gold is slighty grippier than the titanium silver (which the titanium silver isn’t even available in the US, anyway). So you could add that to the list if you want.

I’ve never used anything other than chrome, but I hear stainless steel is the worst with grip. I think chrome is slightly better, and titanium and brass are the best. I think brass is better than titanium, but I can’t vouch for that…

So I think the order from worst to best is:
    steel ~> chrome ~> titanium ~> brass

but I’m not 100% sure (this is just assumptions from what I’ve heard) but it’s something along those lines, definitely.

But yes, you really did go from one extreme to the other. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif I give up… the one post said "I HAD it DELIVERED" so I assumed the usage of the past tense meant it had been delivered. But making the delivery arrangements without the actual delivery itself taking place would still warrant the use of the past tense, so….

Ok sorry, was a Spanish major in college so I read quite a bit into grammar sometimes. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif

My pole is in my bedroom and not much room. You can see it in my videos if you want to look… I kicked the wall in one of my vids (it’s in the bloopers). The closest wall is like… um, if I stand with one hand on the pole, I can stretch out that inside arm and maybe reach part-way out to the other side. I don’t dare get it any closer than that. I have the corner of my bed about the same distance away on the other side, but it’s not nearly as invasive and I can usually kick my legs over it when spinning. I can’t move it anywhere else because of the position of the joists…

The pole goes up and down easily enough, just put it up somewhere and walk around it and see if you’re comfortable with the space; you don’t even have to tighten it all the way, just kinda leave it in one piece (careful of the dome!) and walk it around with you. When you find a place you like, make sure a joist is right there and tighten her up!

Veena, how many poles do you have??? How tall are they, what rooms are they in, how long have you had each one of them??? Are they all chrome??? And what are your favorite letters of the alphabet???

Give us some juice to work with and maybe we’ll suggest something you like. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Yeah it would be great, Lily! I just need some pole partners to jam with, first! No one here poles!!! But maybe if I gave a good enough demo a few people would get into it. If I can’t find any pole partners, I’ll just make ’em myself!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Yes Jungle, I got the pole https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif Read back through the posts – I posted when I got her! My new videos were all on my new pole, too

And Heather, my first pole was a pole I got at Spencer’s, too – the carmen electra pole. I went the extra lengths to screw it to both the ceiling and the floor. The x-pole doesn’t do either and it feels SOOO much more solid!! I’ve never had it slip, either. Just make sure everything is tight when you put it up and check on it before you use it. Jungle Cat had quite the tumble on his not too long after getting it, but it was user error on his part (no offense, Jungle – trying to instill some confidence in the x-pole here! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif )
