If it’s unscrewing then something’s wrong… when it’s up correctly it won’t unscrew. First check and make sure you’re fully in static mode, and then maybe you should take it down and put it back up again…

Double check all the joints before you do the final tightening in the adjuster screw. Screw it all together by hand, put the dome up and all and just as the dome starts touching the ceiling (enough that the base won’t spin on the floor) go back through with one of the rods and do a final turn on each of the joints. Then go back up and tighten the adjuster screw all the way. It shouldn’t loosen itself…

    Good luck!

I think Veena has some lessons on building upper body strength, but I’m broke and can’t get the lessons so I’m not 100% sure….

The spins actually do help quite a bit with building strength, so keep up on those. Also try doing things like pulling yourself up into a pole sit from dead weight – don’t jump or climb into it. I also pull myself up and bring my legs up into the V position at the same time so I get the abs and thighs going, too. With inverts, your grip is a better friend you to than strength for now. It’s one thing to pull yourself up into an invert, but another when you can’t hold on! The spins will help with grip, too. When I started, when I did a spin my ears were nearly touching my arms because I couldn’t hold my body up nicely, although the form for my spins wasn’t bad. Now I can spin much more confidently.

That’s all I can think of… I’m sure some of the more veteran girls will be able to give you better pointers. Just keep at it!

P.S. make sure you switch up which side of the body you’re working on, too. Do spins from both left and right and inverts left and right. I can spin both directions but am regretting not working on inverting lefty… it’s important to make both sides strong!

I felt like a moron because I had to Wikipole this one to figure out what you were talking about! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif So it’s basically the same as the gemini but that one leg is going the other direction, right???

Maybe one thing you could try is before you get into the inverted crucifix, just practice hanging there in the invert and getting your legs straightened out. Get the muscle memory there first, then let go with your hands. Then after you can do it without thinking about it so much try it from the crucifix. I know your form won’t quite be right with holding on while you get the feet right first, but it’ll be easier to see what you’re doing.

    Good luck! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

Like the other girls said, you’ll get used to it. I used to be in soooo much pain from doing a pole sit and now it doesn’t even bother me; which is great because now I can concentrate on working up the ab strength to sit up without holding on or hooking my bottom foot! Just keep at it and your skin will get used to the feeling.

Wow there were some pretty impressive moves in there! I liked the plank – death lay combo at 3:40. I couldn’t imagine supporting someone else’s weight on the pole… but that one girl looked buff enough to handle it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif

… and 3 days later I just randomly tried switching between the two in the middle of taping my April Challenge and did it with no problems whatsoever! That was a move that made my jaw drop when I first starting "researching" pole dancing on YouTube when I started a little over a month ago, and here I am merely weeks later and I can already do it!!! I’m so happy! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I think Glitter posted a list somewhere, also… under the "everything else…" forum I think.

Wow, I have more glam rock than I realized… I just posted my vid but I’ll probably do another one.

Lol that’s what I figured but I kept seeing you talking about it in all your posts and I was SOOOOO lost! I hate not knowing what’s going on… it annoys the heck out of people when I ask stupid questions like that, but I hate feeling left out!

I’d love to go to a conference but I’s broke… the last of my spending money went to my pole and now it’s going to something for my husband (we made a deal if I got the pole then he could get something, too… so now we’re saving for that). So unless we have it within a 3 hour drive distance of me then I’ll be with you in spirit! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

Oh what’s wrong with posting the bloopers??? I think it’s great to see part of the process of learning and not to mention it makes me feel better that I’m not the only one looking like a complete idiot when I’m dancing! Yeah I felt like an idiot after Google-ing glam rock images… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rabbit.gif I should’ve known what it was! I’ve just never heard of it referred to using that term.

I’ll probably end up using Queen or Twisted Sister because they’re like the only 2 artists I have in my iTunes that I saw on the list on Wikipedia. But they were pretty popular songs so someone else will probably pick the same song that I did!

I know what you mean about doing elbow stands (or handstands!)!!! I get easily disoriented when upside down and can’t quite comfortably hold my weight on my arms from above. I’ve slid down into an elbow stand from an inverted crucifix and can hold my legs in a V, but I usually end up grabbing the pole with my legs within half a second and clinging on for dear life. If you can invert, maybe invert, slide down to elbow stand-height, walk your hands around the pole until you’re leaning against it (pole against your stomach). Then practice just staying there! The pole is there to steady you so move your legs around and get used to holding your balance and just being more confident with being in that position.

I started out with spins and that was a good way to ease into gaining upper body strength. You wouldn’t think that just spinning in circles holding onto a pole would do much, but you’d be surprised! My hands are extremely sweaty and even about a month and a half into this, I still have to wipe off my hands after every spin (or 2 at most). You said you’re working on climbing and sitting, have you done any spins??? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

I’d say just spinspinspinspin until your arms fall off for a little while, maybe a week or two (or until the soreness wears off), and just do simple moves like pulling yourself up into the pole into a sit using just your arms. I combine this with a thigh and ad exercise kinda thing – pull yourself up but put your legs out into the open V position and hold yourself there.

But that’s my 2 cents… may not work for you, but maybe it will https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Good luck!

I think I’ve done that with every move I’ve learned – could do it great when I got it, and then went into a slump again. I think part of it was probably just adrenalin of being able to do it the first time that you were able to do it so much, then your body went into recover mode. Try it again over the next few days and I’m sure you’ll be able to do it; just don’t overwork yourself! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

Yes, Sakura does mean cheery blossom. It’s actually a very common Japanese name, and the cherry blossom carries a lot of symbolism in Japanese culture. (symbolic of what exactly is eluding me at the moment…)

Just a side-note: Americans tend to pronounce it wrong: the accent is on the A, and Rs in Japanese sound extremely similar to Ls. So try saying it with an L instead of an R, then say it again making that L sound a little more R-like and you’ll have it perfectly. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Congrats on the new moves! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Can’t wait to check out the vid!

I’ve never heard of that grip (in all of my extensive research…) Veena does a grip that’s similar except her top hand is on the back of the pole – so your palm is facing you if the pole wasn’t there. Fleur called it the "Veena Grip" in one of their pole jam videos. But hey, whatever works for you! Once you get stronger with it I’m sure you’ll be able to do any grip you want.

Yes, I find it highly annoying when I want to share my feelings about my body with other girls and they cut me off saying stuff like I said above because they think I shouldn’t be able to complain at all because I look better than they do! They’re not wrong – I shouldn’t complain – but the attitude they use and not even letting me speak is highly aggravating.

You can’t see it in my vids, but I have stretch marks on the bottoms of my breasts and right on my hip bones, my boobs have sagged (although they didn’t have far to go…) and my bras don’t fit right anymore, and my tummy also hangs out over my pants a bit. It’s all easily hidden under clothes, but pole dancing reveals all! (well, not "all"…)

I’ve come to believe that imperfections are part of what makes each of us perfect, I just have to keep reminding myself of that (Veena, you said in another post somewhere you used to be really pessimistic, I too "suffer" from it and have gotten much better, but in this area I continually have to fight to try to stay positive)
