I use it when I’m practising certain inverts I’m not too great at like handsprings and cartwheel mounts. The grip is very strong so I can’t use it for static pole spins, it’s too sticky and grippy. Maybe a very light spray would make it possible but I love firm grip for training new invert moves.
Also I don’t have sweaty hands so I’m thinking for someone who does, it might loosen the grip enough to be ok for spins.

    Hi Mechie,
Thanks for sharing your experience. I appreciate your Yelp review. When I take a lesson from a well known poler it will only be through a recommendation. I will be avoiding instructors that don’t show regard for students. I hope you keep going forward with your pole journey 🙂

I like twerking. I think body isolation moves take skill. If people don’t like it that’s okay with me but I have no idea why they take the time to watch and comment. Most twerk vids clearly say “TWERK” so anyone clicking on something they dislike shows me that they need to find better things to do with their time.
For myself the negative comments reflect more poorly on the commenter than they do on the person they are trying to put down.

Keep going, It’s ok to progress at a different pace than other people. I was awful when I started and now I can do moves that I thought were almost impossible for me to learn! I think the important thing for someone with pole goals is to be consistent with your practise. Slow and steady wins the race! I don’t know if they have that saying in french but I basically mean don’t focus on catching up with everyone else instead focus on getting into a practise routine regularly and stick with it. For myself that’s always the best way to get results. Also don’t worry about your body shape, just keep working on your goals consistently with enough rest in between for your muscles to recover and you will gradually become stronger and be able to climb and do the other moves you are trying to learn.

Pole is my fave, but chair is also something I’d like to learn more of & Lula pointed out there’s not so many lessons for it which I agree with! So chair gets my vote.

    Yes I hate this! Grrrrr
Like everyone says you’ll get it back. I usually work on my prep moves for the “missing” move in the meantime.

I’ve struggled with core work. For conditioning I try to do things that get my butt up over my head.
I work on handstands (so far I’m only at kicks against a wall but even for that it took work so it still built strength) forearm/elbow stands also helped a lot as well as forward and backward rolls I also do ayeshas but to build to that I did caterpillars and butterflys. Aerial shouldermounts – to build up I did shouldermounts with no kicking (I’m not really a crunch person – not enough motivation!) I have more fun doing pole moves that double as prep moves. From doing these moves I’m becoming pretty solid with my cartwheel mount and I have done handsprings but it comes and goes still.

I like them both! I like spin for more contemporary or artistic styles of dance and static for exotic/stripper style and sportier movement.

Cafe press has these (but they are underwear so I don’t know if you and your friends would be comfortable to subsitute them for shorts): http://www.cafepress.ca/make/custom-underwear-and-panties or these men’s boxers which are less revealing http://www.cafepress.ca/make/custom-boxer-shorts.

If either style works for you then you can upload a flag pic to be printed on the garment.

OMG Allyson I thought Kristen was sooo good. I had only really known her from the bridesmaid movie and when I read an article about her in the grammy vid I was like huh? but when I watched I thought: she killed it!

Also as far as gracefulness I agree with all the tips for myself no mirrors especially was a big help as well as video taping so I could look back and see where to adjust. I could see that when I do this move I’d need to arch more or stick out the hip more etc.

I have friends that look like they were born moving beautifully but that was not my case. I was awful like soooo awful. Not anymore though 🙂 just practise you can learn grace you don’t have to do it naturally I promise.

I have some Pleaser slip ons. I’ve never had a problem with them coming off but I’m also someone who takes shoes on and off during practise and I find it annoying to put them back on because they are kind of tight across the front of the foot so I have this foot wrestling process each time. I prefer slingbacks for practise but if I only had to put my slip-ons on once and leave them on until I was finished I wouldn’t really have an issue with them. If you have any local adult stores nearby you might be able to find some pleaser slip-ons to try so you can see if they suit you or not before ordering.

Haven’t done it but I’m always on stripperweb in the beauty/body section. Here’s a link to a thread where some of the women have tried peels and discuss it a little:

Some people like 90% better but when I use it for whatever reason I can’t stick to the pole. Maybe it makes my hands/skin dry and slippery – I’m not sure all I know is it doesn’t work well for me. I’ve used 50% also but it doesn’t get off all the grip residue so that’s why I stick with 70%.

I’m another rubbing alcohol pole cleaner. I use the 70 percent kind to get everything off including itac.

Thanks Serzi I love everything you said!

  • I always use 70% rubbing alcohol to clean my stainless steel poles. Also I’ve heard with X-pole it’s good to start with a steam clean to remove the factory grease that’s on a brand new pole: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdjeYnLLaBw
