Yeah I read the apology they really don’t get it smh 🙁 It had the typical “some of my best friends are black” cliches as well as minimizing the incident to being offensive only depending on someone’s perception which is an insult in itself.
They think it’s a cultural misunderstanding and seemed genuinely clueless to the amount of discrimination that exists against black people and is often overlooked in their country or how their behaviour is a symptom of a much bigger problem in their environment.

Sasja Lee started pole at 38 and is now in her 40’s and amazing! Also to be able to climb in 3 lessons doesn’t sound right to me. It took me months to be able to climb the pole.
I love the lessons here if you do them consistently you will definitely progress.

You could try having a secret Instagram account but research the way facebook, instagram, phones, ipads and computers link automatically. You might want to consider a seperate device for your pole IG (like a new phone or at least sms card) as well as making all new accounts (email) associated with the pole IG from that device.

Yeah I definitely think working on the basic butterfly first is better because it’s a conditioning step before really going into a split grip. Every instructor has their own way of doing things which sometimes could to be a bit more tailored to individual needs so you have to listen to what your body is telling you. As I started to progress more in pole I realized occasionally my instructor had me do moves I didn’t have a foundation for as yet. Also I think it’s awesome you connected with some of your classmates 🙂

  • I forget the prep beyond the caterpillar but I’m sure you’ll get lots of tips from all the Veeners here! Maybe posting a video will get you some good pointers on stable positioning. Definitely take your time with it. I think it’s a great foundational move and useful to learn but I wouldn’t rush into it. If you need to take a break from it you should. As you get stronger you will feel stable and safe. I remember feeling very shaky learning it. For moves that weren’t solid for me when I was first learning, I practised with lots of grip aid and pillows and did prep moves as much as I could.

I feel you! I had the people below leave a note for all the noise I was making while they were trying to sleep. I have no flooring solutions (haven’t checked) so I also would love to see if there are any suggestions. For now though I glued a few layers of felt to the bottom of my heels so my footsteps are now quiet. There are some moves I have to save for day time but I guess on the bright side I’ve become stronger from having to lower myself slowly to the ground so I don’t cause thunder downstairs.

I have found a spray called Super Grip which I was planning to spray on clothes to see if it would help on the pole but haven’t got around to it yet. Another plan I have is to try cutting strips of clear vinyl and sewing them on side seams to see how it works.

@Emmasculator: To an extent, since pole fitness mainly started from ex-exotic dancers opening studios to teach but I’d say I noticed 3 groups: the sexy flow dancers, the contemporary flow dancers and the mainly for tricks and fitness group. I think once competitions became more of a thing there was this anti-stripper anti-sexy sentiment that started to develop which I personally didn’t like.
Also I’m such a fluidity fan too 🙂

I liked the emphasis of fluidity from the old days. I do love what’s going on now and how far the pole community has advanced but maybe back then there was more of a connection between everyone since there was a smaller number of people involved and everyone was pretty much headed in the same direction. To me there was almost an end goal for advanced moves (if you could do XYZ you made it). Now there are so many more moves and so many different directions you can go with in pole it’s harder for me to keep up with every aspect and all the dancers who put themselves online. I think I miss knowing everything that’s out there and being aware of a lot of the people who participate but it’s a trade off for all the crazy amazing progress I think.

For myself when I re-start I just go through the main lessons from the beginning and do each move until I come up to the point where it’s challenging. When I started at StudioVeena there was no 30 day take off as yet but I was able to use the regular lessons to condition and build strength to progress for more advance moves. I also like to download new music to get me excited about getting up and moving forward. I’m really into pole flow too so I’ll check out choreography of my favourite pole dancers like Rhiannan Nichole and learn the moves I’m strong enough to do. This way I’m at least brushing up on my style while I work on my strength.

March 9, 2017 at 4:27 pm in reply to: Are clear strapped shoes more durable than coloured ones?

The straps on the pink ones look pretty sturdy to me.
I even think I have them in white but I like clear more (just for preference not practicality). I use them most out of my pole shoes and I’ve gone through many! I don’t feel like they are special when it comes to durability.

The pink shoes have reinforced stitching along the straps and the clear ones do not and are also in a thinner material leading me to think the clears will tear more easily.

Also, I prefer to train in the type of shoe I would perform in so I can get used to them and feel comfortable.

    Thank you Dustbunny 🙂
    You are right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GzEBsAGnGg
I was looking for the name so I could find a tutorial. I’ve got in on one side but for some reason not the other. Now I can get some tips from Blue Phoenix. I appreciate your info.

Maybe you can try slip ons so there is no heel strap to worry about.

    I have these Pleasers:

If the link doesn’t work they are named: allure 602

I cut off the middle strap and the still stay on just fine.

    Ooh was the interview recent?
I’m subscribed to the Pole Parlour youtube channel but I don’t remember seeing a Veena interview.
