USPDF uses 1.75 skinny PS SS Poles.
Different competitions use different poles. I would suggest for those training for comps – work and train on the most difficult finish for you. USPDF hopefuls may also want to consider working with a skinny PS pole because from what I hear the smaller diameter greatly changes your leg grips.

I can do the Sitting Doom and the Straight Doom..
The only other dancer I have ever seen do this is Alena Downs…she has the sitting doom in one of her videos…but I was actually able to catch her doing the Straight Doom on a 22′ pole! It WAS SOOOO COOL!! She just let go of her ankles and dropped like a rocket!! She stopped inches away from the floor! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Saks4JkZXZ8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; 2:40 ish she does the sitting doom as a slide.
This was the first ever drop that I learned to do. I learned it off this exact video. Alena is the only one I have ever seen do this. I would love to see the straight version! The woman is incredible.
I was amazed at how easy the Jasmine Drop really is. I find it hard to play with this one at home though. It almost started looking like a mistake as we kept rewinding and watching, lol! But I think both Jen and I got it the night we saw the vid https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Okay…I use it all.
PS Stainless Steel is a matte finish vs Lil Mynx poles which are mirror finish. When dealing with Stainless Steel matte is grippy and mirror is not.
After being on Chrome for about 8 months I found it hard to go back to Stainless Steel full time (even though I occasionally use the SS pole at the studio.) Not impossible though. I turned my heat up and bit, got myself and the pole warm and we had a good time. I found the Chrome to be too grippy sometimes for me – especially in the summer time.
I have sweaty hands – so while my body sticks to brass very well, I still have to deal with my grip issues – so brass isn’t a total cure all.
Titanium – doesn’t really compare to brass for me. I still feel like titanium is slippery. For me, not worth it for the extra cost.
Another thing to remember is that the USPDF uses 1.75 PS Stainless Steel poles. Chrome has more grip than Stainless – so if you are training for competition – go Stainless Steel. Even if you show up and they have brass – be surprised but be prepared.
As far as customer service on both ends I can’t say. I haven’t had bad luck with PS – but we’ll see when I tell them I need a new ceiling plate because my pole went through it. I know X-pole can be a pain, I know 2 people who had issues with their customer service. They did eventually recitfy the matters though.

wow do we really have to take dance class for it? i was hoping to try and learn things on my own and videos….. is that a bad idea? im so glad i got to know u a bit!! im about to order my pole…. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif yay:) i hope i can do a few things:) i dont wanna quit on it!!! i really want to learn neat things Rubi!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif well i will go ahead and make sure i look at at the video and the pole "sit" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif ur such a helper!!! hehe…. oh and i have another question Rubi… that 50MM pole… the height can be adjusted? to as how high low ur celing is?
There are self taught dancers around but honestly you will progress so much faster, safer and in the proper order of moves if you take classes. When you are alone you have nothing to go by as far as moves that should be learned, exercises to help build the strength so you can begin learning moves, prep work for moves, etc. Plus, you have no spotter when you get to intermediate levels. You want to make sure that you are warming up properly, gripping the pole properly, using the proper body mechanics, learning how to put the tricks together in a dance, getting a good cardio work out as well as strength training work out. There is sooo much to know that I think in the beginning if there is a studio near you – you should take a group class. After that practice the basics, go back for another class when you are ready to move on. Use DVD’s and Tutorials as supplemental education, don’t use youtube to learn off. Not everyone on youtube is using proper body mechanics or is doing tricks 100% properly and safely.

I could only make it through about 3 minutes of the video, I am finding it difficult to care what her opinion is.
I can’t care about someone’s opinion who makes a video disrespecting others but doesn’t have the balls to show their face.

MemberJanuary 8, 2010 at 10:35 pm in reply to: Woman Sues Crunch Fitness For Pole Dancing InjuryYBB – you bring up some good points. Did the woman invert after being told to wait for a spotter? Because I have a girl who does this a lot – she knows to wait or practice from the floor but on a regular basis has inverted while I was helping to spot another student. I also emphasis crunching into an invert but students do not always listen.
Did the student just say she was ok out of embarassment? Was the fall really a fall? Or a slow slide to the ground? Did she receive medical attention right away?
I am not saying its the students fault and that she doesn’t have a right to sue because chances are the instructor just told her to invert and she did and slipped. A lot of places teach inverts in beginner classes because they think inverting is about strength (only partly correct.)
I’d still like to know how long the instructor has been pole dancing.

MemberJanuary 8, 2010 at 3:23 am in reply to: conflict of interest for instructor to visit competition? To be honest I am really torn on this. I think first off you have the right to learn from others and pay them for their knowledge. If the other school doesn’t mind that you teach someplace else I don’t see why your boss would be so upset about it. If the other school is more advanced and chances are you’ll be learning and gaining from them knowledge you can use to teach students…
BUT I completely agree that it is a bit of a conflict of interest. You should be practicing at your studio – even if the poles are shorter. I can understand why she might be uncomfortable with this. What if you start talking cirriculum with another instructor?

MemberJanuary 8, 2010 at 1:06 am in reply to: Woman Sues Crunch Fitness For Pole Dancing InjuryCan I just say this is why we don’t teach inverting to those who are new to pole dancing. I don’t care if you work out everyday – pole is a different technique that if not done properly can seriously injure you.
Secondly to fall means she was able to get up there – so the student managed the invert – it sounds like sweaty palms got the best of her and she slipped. Which means even with a spotter she still would have fallen as a spotter breaks the fall not elimnates it.
Third – I am not super familiar with Crunch outside of them being a chain that actually offers pole class…but what are the qualifications at crunch to teach pole? Just group cert? Personal training certs? What about pole experience? Is this something that they look for in pole instructors?

I guess for me, while I haven’t gotten any negative comments so far, I set it up so i don’t have to deal with them.
I don’t like to cause controversy so I set my comments to be approved, after time I will take my older videos and make them private, etc.

Okay, is this normal? To be dreaming about smoking? Knowing you can’t smoke, you don’t want to smoke yet in your dreams you either do smoke or know at some point you are going to. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Good luck jill.
I am afraid of starting again. Not anytime soon but in a few years. I keep telling myself why I am quitting and why being smoke free is better than smoking.
Isn’t it weird that a stick of tobacco can control every aspect of our lives?
