Kobajo – I can totally tell you've been working on flow too – you looked great at the showcase and had the perfect mixture of dance and tricks 🙂

Hey everyone – I wrote a quick blog about the grips I use including the mg gloves and how I use them.

If it gets overly dancey I can get bored with it but on the otherside I can get bored just watching tricks.

For myself  I try to have an even mixture of both dance and tricks and I generally accomplish way more dancing that tricks.

Something that I love about Jenyne Butterfly and I think she does this the best – she dances through her tricks so no matter what she's doing she is in total and constant movement and this is something I really try to achieve myself.  I really want to not just hold a move but somehow move while I am in it and beautifully transition to the next the thing so that the tricks aspect become whole with the dance aspect.

I am so far from achieving that it's not even funny…but that's my two cents.

@Jessegirl – what kind of pole are using?  I found the non-tack gloves don't work as well on brass and 45's – they provide too much grip for spinning.

If you're on a 50 chrome or stainless I suggest adjusting your grip because if you have super sweaty hands – and I do – I tend to death grip my pole a lot.  Once I got into using either Tite Grip or the MG gloves I realized I don't have to grip as much as I had originally thought.  These gloves have such magic grip!

I don't think you can dance a song to death.  I try not to do competition routines to songs that for example, everyone knows Felix danced to because I don't want anyone thinking of Felix while I'm performing.  I think it's good to pick familiar and popular songs to dance to that most people like because it helps overcome nerves and most of the time if we like the song we are more inclined to like the dance.

I just try not to dance to a song someone has already won something with like Sober – Tool – Alethea won the championship with that song – I don't want the comparison.

I think when a song is less familiar the dancer has to work much harder.  It's a physchological thing.

I'll also mix a lesser known song in with a popular song too.

One of my students just bought the blinged out gloves and I wasn't aware they existed!  I thought she blinged them herself – they are so cute!!!!!

If you're using them because you have sweaty hands I suggest Tite Grip under them because it is an anti perspirant that will help you from sliding around in the gloves.  If you do use Tite Grip – you have to put in on a half hour/hour before because it takes time to work unlike mighty grip which is kind of an instant rosin type grip.

I <3 mighty grip gloves!  I actually HAD to use them during a performance because it was outside and it was like 50 degrees so the MG gloves really helped my pole work a lot – there is no way I could have gotten through it without them.

Just saw your post about your children – that's such a strange place to be in.  I don't have kids so I cannot comment but I can TOTALLY understand that point of view.  That's a really toughy.

I'm really sorry you don't have a supportive environment.  I really echo all of Cinara's comments.  The bottom line is we could use different terminology but it's not going to change the minds of men who only see a woman as a sexual object, men who think women should be ashamed of being sexy or ashamed of being seen as a sexual onject by them.

Here's the thing with men that I don't understand – if they're mentally objectifying ME why should I have to feel guilty about that.  Why should I feel shame for whatever it is I'm doing in their heads?  They're having an emotional reaction to what I'm doing, if they were having a logical reaction – they'd see I'm sexy, strong and sure of myself.  They'd RESPECT me.

In my very humble opinion the only difference between a pole dancer and a stripper is the motive, other than that there is no difference,  At the basic level of pole dancing aren't we teaching women to be sexy and slink around the pole before they ever learn any tricks?  Aren't we showing them sexy floorwork?  Don't we begin with what is easily achieved in order to sustain and encourage women to continue pole dancing?  There is nothing so simple as walking around the pole and doing leg splays on the floor.

If a man cannot see that my motive is NOT to get him to purchase a lapdance but to self express and entertain than that's HIS issue.  A strippers motive is to sell private dances where she makes larger earnings, a pole dancers motive is to dance around the pole.

I'm really sorry that you're going through this and I wish your husband could overcome whatever issues he's personally having.

In fairness I understand why our men wouldn't want us, to say perform in front of a group of men, but we perform for mostly women, we teach most of us exclusively to women.  The motive here isn't to become a stripper to make money or to cheat on our husbands – it's to feel good, sexy, get caught up in the moment, express ourselves and ofcourse there is the added bonus of female friendship – which is really hard for some of us to come by.

I, personally, never tell men I'm a pole dance instructor but I do tell women all the time when I am out and I've received such a warm welcome from most women.  The men who do find out generally respect me although I'm sure they perv out mentally, but mostly they ask genuine questions and usually want to send their wives over to the studio because they think it will be fun for her and ofcourse fun for them eventually.

I sincerely hope that things work out with you and your husband and between the two of you can find a solution that works for each of you and your family.

If it helps any, my boyfriend always says (regarding drama or whatever) "At the end of the day it's just girls dancing on poles, what's the big deal?"  Maybe that line might help your husband understand that perhaps he's taking it a little to seriously and maybe reading into it too much.  Without knowing the situation I can't advise but maybe one day soon he'll see pole dancing and changes it's made in you as a positive thing.  My bf wasn't exactly happy about this in the beginning but over time – he's come to encourage it, understand it and most of all love me more because I can let him – I love myself more.

Jenn – first of all I love you, I loved your performance.  You were great.

I've got sweaty hands too and the poles were slippery that's why I didn't bust out crazy advanced tricks either.  We all know what you can do but what you showed us was how you put it together in a cohesive movement- you were fabulous!  I loved every second of it – you were so extending and taking advantage of your lines – you're beautiful inside and out and so was you performance.

Don't go to a strip club for the tricks, go for the experience.  I love strip clubs, I learn a lot of movement and floor work by watching strippers.  I love the stage presence so many of the girls have.  I tip the best dancers and my friends – whether they do tricks or not.  I've only been to 1 strip club whereI felt like it was all booty shaking and no stage work.  Even if there aren't a lot of tricks I enjoy watching them strip and learning how to hold myself in the regard they do on stage.  There are a lot of talented performers who have a ton of personality – and really grab your attention.  Every now and again a girl will do a trick – even something basic and I get excited because I can do it too!  I love talking to the girls about clothes and shoes.  It's a lot of fun.

If it's something you want to know more about I would proceed with extreme caution.  It may have been a simple oversight.  I do think they should have explained all of this and it does make me think they aren't organized but that could be momentarily.

I would go to the office and talk with them more and atleast meet them.  Find out what they are thinking.  Remember any interview is as much you interviewing them as them interviewing you.  I'm a firm believer that in any field it's just as important to make sure the job is also right for you. I am really against taking jobs just because you have to because those situations rarely work out…(although I know we don't always get to pick and choose, but I like to put everything out there before I take a job.)

Also you need to find a kind way to bring up your concerns about their communication with one another and it made you wonder how organized they are and if this is a headache you are going to have to continue to deal with.

I can atest to the vinegar!  Our X-stage was super slippery and very unworkable, after a cleaning of vinegar – it was great.

I'll also try vodka but I think vinegar in the end is going to be the most economical solution.

I'm a big believer is shelving things when they get frustrating.  Sometimes our heads and bodies just don't connect so even if we KNOW how to do it – we still can't get our body there.

I keep a pole journal for this reason.  When I get in that new trick mood I'll go back and look at what I had wanted to do and I make notes on moves to and sometimes just that break helps me.

I've got a loooong list of moves I've put aside…some I have gotten and some I have but aren't pretty and there are a few I haven't got at all.

I think a break is good sometimes – rest and a fresh mind are great things when approaching old challenges 🙂

I hope it's just that they don't have their poles up yet, but I'd be leary of someone who would ask an instructor to audition at a strip club in a bad neighborhood.  I think you should politely ask why and let them know you don't like the neighborhood and feel as though it could be a bad situation.

Why can't they look at a video of you as an audition?    If I see that they are executing their fundamentals well then I would want to audition them to teach, not to perform for me – but I would have them prepare a mini class for me so I can see how they teach.

No matter what, keep yourself safe.  We need Glitter in one piece safe and sound!!!!!!

I'm a big grip aid user.  I have extremely sweaty hands so I am always layering on the Tite Grip.  I rely heavily on anti perspirants.

Now grippy grip aids – I don't use those too often but I will use them in class if I'm doing a demonstration and the poles are still kinda cold or my skin is really dry (I'm so lucky to have sweaty palms and dry legs – nice combination!)

I don't think you want too get reliant on grippy gip aids but for a performance I might have the poles prepped with something.  I usually have my pole prepped with Grrrip because because my hands are sweaty I can pick up the aid off the pole and my hand grips will be solid.

But I don't think there comes a time where you have to use grip aid – it's up to you.  I also think if you're getting frustrated or the extra stickiness will make something safer you should go for it.

Lots of other sports use grip aids – so why shouldn't we?  🙂

I'm sorry the competition didn't go as you hope Lulu 🙁

I think you should keep trying!  Never give up on yourself.  I feel like these competitions push people to surpass what they thought they could achieve.  We've all seen you grow so much as a dancer.

That chair routine was off the hook.  I love it so much!!!!!!!  No matter what be proud of yourslef – you got out there 3 times with different Lulu's – that's amazing!  It was great to see the different sides of your personality and you really do bring it when you perform!

Thanks guys – the videos I have are not good so I am going to have a friend shoot my hip area so I can see what's going.  I think maybe I'm not pulling the foot towards the ground and my torso is very rounded.  It's also only on the 45 that I cannot get flat 🙁

LOL!  Maybe I'll have Cherly film up in my business so I can see what the problem is on a 45.  I already know that 45's have less surface area so I'm assuming its a technique error.
