I think I understand, as I know what you mean about the joints not tightening. I have a much smaller ceiling though, so i’m not sure it is as much of an issue. I’m just going to try to leave mine up as often as possible so avoid damaging the joints. I’m sure Xpole will replace yours for you if you think they’re faulty.

Oh that sounds fun.. How do you make your own?
-
Oh right, maybe i’ll try that next time I take it down. Yeah, the first time I put it up the bit between the A nd B poles got twisted, obviously because I hadn’t tightened them enough, because I physically couldn’t! Gave it a bit more elbowgrease this time and seemed to do the trick! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Thanks for that link chemgoddess.. I found some dancey type workouts that would do great for a 20 min warm up.. even if it is extremely corny https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Hehe I can tell you were too excited to read the whole thread https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif The lessons are awesome, I can’t use most of them, except the new warm up one which I love and lots of transitiony things.. Yay! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_nemo.gif

They put vaseline in the Xjoints where the hex key goes in??
Those Xjoints can be a b*tch to get apart, or to put together! -
Oo that’s kind of soon for me. I’m not sure if i’ll know any moves by then, lol!
Also, i’m in UK anyway the weekend of the 13th/14th, so to come back over so soon might be hard. But if I can’t make this one, you guys go ahead and i’ll make an extra special effort to get to the next one!
Keep me posted anyway and i’ll see what I can do https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif -
Yay just realised it’s on the day after I finish my exams https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Can’t wait to go and watch!

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know where to get pole shoes/boots in Dublin?
-
Glad you got Veena’s lessons, i’m a total beginner too. I also got a dvd (poleeexercise.co.uk). It’s probably quite good for intermediate and advanced people, but I couldn’t even attempt the strength exercises on that dvd.
I’m focussing on doing Veena’s strengh training and pole sits etc, before I start fully trying spins, as I don’t think my upper body strength is quite there yet!
Yay for beginners https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif -

He was totally serious too.. talk about unrealistic expectations! I did scream at him when I did a pole sit, but by the time he’d paused the game, i’d pretty much slid down. Needless to say he was unimpressed!

Well i’m in Dublin, I could maybe pop over, combine it with a visit to the in laws in cambridge!

Oh, how did the old adjuster cover stay on then? I have to say I haven’t had any problems at all with it. Only that a couple of times I forgot to tighten it fully and it rattled when i hit off it, but it seems fine to me so far. My X joints look a bit rounded though, which is bad. I’m afraid I may have done it when I first put it up, as it’s quite difficult to get the hex key all the way into the x joints to tighten them. Sorry i’m probably totally confusing you!
-
When did you order yours? because I got mine very quickly, which was great, especially in the snow! The 180mm x joint is only used if you need the 125mm extension, which I did. I was king of stuck because my ceiling is within the 125mm extension height bracket, but when we put it up, the adjuster screw was just over 5 inches, but the bigger extension wouldn’t fit! So I called them and they said up to 6 inches is okay, they just leave extra safety margin. Oh and sorry the 200mm x joint is used to connect a and b poles and also to connect the bigger extension if you need it.

MemberJanuary 16, 2010 at 3:30 am in reply to: how to excuse your hubby from your pole sessionsI feel exactly the same. I don’t mind working on like pole sits or spins, but I can’t just dance and do floorwork and sexy stuff while he’s around, unless it’s for him as you say. I’m lucky in a way because my boyfriend works abroad so I have the place to myself half the time. And I find when he’s playing playstation (most childish 26 yr old?) he’s really uninterested! But yeah I save the ‘sexy’ stuff until he’s gone.
I don’t think he’d mind leaving the room. I guess it depends on how many rooms you have in your house.. like we’re in a 1 bed apt, so sending bf out of the living room might be cruel! Maybe you can do your floorwork and dancing when he’s not around.. at work or something? And just work on perfecting moves when he’s there.. that way he’s there to spot you should you need it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Congrats on your new Mac! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Got mine last summr and i’m still in love with it! Enjoy https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Oh yeah I saw where it said it’s mandatory, I thought that was kind of funny… very authoritive! I thought that was just the first time you assemble it, like to figure out how to do it. Anyway I managed to put it up myself, yeah it was pretty heavy, but it was actually easy enough to do. Although i spent ages twisting the pole, trying to make it longer, after about 5 mins, I was wondering why it was taking so long… then I went down to the bottom, realised I had left it in spinning mode! So I was there turning the pole for no reason!! Haha that was funny… classic amateur mistake!
-
Yay, I just got Veena’s lessons.. Just going through all the fun moves.. sexy squat, body wave, hip rolls. Much more fun than I had thought. What spins?! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

Yeah I guess taking lessons is good, because you know that all the muscle pain, and the frustration is normal! My arms are feeling a bit better today, but don’t know how strong they’ll be! I’ll do the dancy thing anyway and see how I go https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
-
Thanks byrdgrl, I know you and everyone else is right, it takes time. But i’m so frustrated, I tried to pole today after taking a 1 day break, but my arms are still sore from the 2 days before, so they literally wouldn’t work! Could barely hold myself on for a fireman spin. I even found it hard to pull the gearstick into 2nd gear when driving home tonight! Oh dear!
In regards to the lessons, I got myself a dvd from the same person I got my pole from (UK supplier). Turns out the only move on the whole dvd i can do is the fireman! even the strength training moves are too difficult for me to attempt! So I will definitely have to get some cash together to get Veena’s lessons when my bf gets home from his trip.
Also, one more question, I feel like tomorrow my arms may still be sore and weak tomorrow, so should i maybe leave the attempt at tricks another day? Is there anyway I can end up leaving it too long? Or is it best to wait until the pain in completely gone?
I appreciate everyone’s encouragement and advice, thanks x

I’m sure there have been injuries, but i’d imagine they’d mostly be muscle or tendon, or maybe nerve impingement. Bruises are just small internal bleeds, and will heal up in most people (certain types of haemophilia may prevent healing). These shouldn’t cause any long term damage, just a bit of tenderness and an unsightly bruise!
I don’t know much about the injuries that can occur from pole dancing… i’m sure plenty of people on here can comment on that. But I know that bruises are usually nothing to worry about.
-
This is my first pole, so I can’t really compare it to any others, sorry! Although as far as I know they deliberately made the base a lot smaller. I got the 50mm. I noticed rust on the inside of the pole while taking it down yesterday, is that normal do you know? Have to try put it up by myself today.. that’s gonna be fun https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

Thanks loupielou for the encouragement, i’m surprised at how hard it is. People make it look so easy!

Yeah I think measuring progress solely by weightloss (especially if you’re not overweight to begin with) can be misleading as, as was mentioned before I think, muscle weighs more than fat, so you may well be slimmer, but weigh more. And onviously that’s a positive thing as you’ve then got less fat and more muscle, yay! You can gauge muscle tone loosely on someone fairly slim by just looking… can often see outlines of muscle groups.
In regards to BMI, a lot of my doctor lecturers don’t hold much regard for this method of measuring nutritional control. Yeah it can tell often if a person is really over or underweight. But if you’ve got a naturally short person, who has large muscle mass, or a tall, naturally thin person, the results won’t tell you much. Rather if a person is eating a fairly balanced diet, and exercises regularly, they will usually then be at their ‘natural’ and usually healthy weight.
I’m really encouraged to hear stories of people losing weight by pole dancing. My main goal isn’t really weight loss, but i wouldn’t mind dropping 10lbs or so in the next few months. If that doesn’t happen, i’m happy with maintaining my shape! I know that exercising often helps you to eat better, it’s like you’ve got a reason to do it now!
Here’s to hoping anyway!
