I went to a strip club after I started taking pole dance lessons and had an epiphany:

You can’t collect money if you are on the pole!!!!!!!!!!

Those girls gotta get close to the customers so they can fill up those garters with that hard earned cash!!

Sissy, I went to Gentleman’s Gold Club in B-more on Halloween and there were two girls there that rocked the pole. Then I hit up Excape and the girls had no pole moves. Hit or miss I guess.

Carrie, I feel your pain. I’m wearing that same brace (it makes a debut in my latest video). I wish I could go back in time and not push myself so hard when I was fatigued and not fully warm. I’m going on 3 months and the pain is still present and I am so much weaker. I tried doing my cartwheel mount and I’ve lost it. I’m sad to hear that so long after your rock climbing that the pain is coming back. Boooooooooooo! I hate tendonitis!!!

Hi & welcome! I’m from Buffalo originally and have spent a lot of time in Canada! Burlington is beautiful, I think, since it’s right on the water. I also have a lot of respect for Canadians as I have found you all to be so nice, civil, and fashionable!

Hope to see you around the site!

For us – we take pole very seriously as a fitness regiment

Charley, I love this quote. As the owner at my studio gives a tour and passes through the pole room while I’m instructing this is what she says to newcomers "we don’t take this that seriously here, we just laugh a lot and have fun with it"

That’s probably why we’ve had serious injuries and students saying that other instructors can’t break down moves or say ‘I don’t know how I did that’.

The bottom line is that pole studios are businesses. There must be quality control and safety has to come first. I just think that this field is so new that few people know what they are doing. Owners just hope they can open a place and the talent will show up. Because pole fitness and pole dance studios are in their infancy, talent needs to be trained and developed. That usually comes under a fantastic instructor with guidelines and standards. When pole places are run by non-polers who don’t have that passion for pole or talent on the pole or talent for instructing, pole studios end up sucking.

Charlie, that was awesome! I wish the owner of my studio followed your guidelines!

I learned on a 50mm brass and have both a 50mm TG and a 45mm chrome at home. I really didn’t like the TG at all and ended up selling it. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the 45mm chrome!! You get good grip on it b/c the diameter is smaller.

The owner is making bad choices, obviously. However, she is the owner. I’d mention it once then leave it be and let the chick crash and burn. People who attend her class will eventually complain or just stop coming b/c she sucks. Perhaps then the owner will get a clue. It seems she’s only interested in putting a warm body in the room to keep the funds rolling in for herself. If people avoid that class then the owner won’t make money and then she’ll make a change.

I teach and we’ve had the same thing happen at my studio. It’s really hard to find a quality instructor. I paid for myself to get further training so I’d be better and the owner didn’t give 2 shits that I did that. She just wants someone to make sure that class is ‘fun’. That’s the problem when a pole studio owner is not a pole dancer nor an instructor. They just don’t ‘get it’. Thankfully, the crappiest instructors have come and gone for one reason or another. You can’t worry about the other instructors, all you can do is ensure you teach well and keep your students safe. People will come to your class as long as you are good.

Sissy, I’m so happy you have found an answer to what was causing you problems. Surgery isn’t the end of the world. It’s just a set back until you can become a better you! I wish you the best through all this, you hid it so well!! I’m sending hugs and prayers your way. Since my name is Angel, I might have some extra pull in the heavens!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Awww Sissy, You don’t need to suffer in silence!! I can’t believe you went so long without answers while you were in so much pain. I had no idea you were in pain at the workshop. You did great! Anyway, taking a break won’t be that bad if you do get surgery. I broke my hand a few years ago in a bad car accident and I was SHOCKED that even though I couldn’t work out I A) didn’t gain any weight and B) didn’t lose much muscle strength. You gotta take care of your feet, they are the foundation of your whole life. I think you could still find a way to pole even with a cast on. You could even draw the outline of a high heel on the side of the cast! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

Naama I’m so thrilled and happy for you!! I wouldn’t have thought that you were a smoker. I’ve read that nicotine is more addictive than heroin but I’ve also heard that Chantix is an incredible tool for quitting. My good friend used it and she said quitting was easy for her except the part of having something to hold in her fingers.

I’ll say a few prayers for you! You are saving your own life and that’s what kick-ass pole divas do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, I think you should reward yourself with a trip up this way for Karol Helm’s workshops January 9th! It’s not officially announced yet, but it’s definitely happening!

Ditto what veena said. I have pretty low ceilings so I just had my husband stand underneath me with his arms over his head and his hands near my shoulders pressing me upwards. It gave me the sense of safety I needed to try this move. It is freeking scary to try the first few times.

I agree, I had a workshop with her in Philly two weeks ago. She is FANTASTIC!! She is not only one of the best in the world, she is a great teacher and a super nice person. She autographed her centerfold in pole2pole mag for me and even drew me a little butterfly and added a really great note. She is not intimidating at all. GO!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_exclaim.gif

TG is a great way to get tennis elbow aka lateral epicondylitis. I’ve have it now for going on 2 months and my practice is now severely limited. Thanks to TG, I have to wear a brace, ice 2x/day, and take anti-inflamatory meds. My orthopedic Dr. says it may take 12 weeks or more to fully heal. BE CAREFUL!! Don’t too too many reps and make sure you are WARM first! A fatigued, cold muscle is the recipe for getting hurt.
