I mean, what I did was probably (most definitely wrong)… but I read all over and kind of came to the conclusion that I hadn’t really *injured* myself. More just muscle strain that come along with working out. It’s not a muscle I ever really used before pole dancing.
I looked at it like I had done way too many squats and my butt was burning (hehe). I laid off anything that hurt and when I got back into it I just made sure to do less and build up slowly. Like instead of doing 100 squats right off the bat… start with 10. That way the next day you can sit down to pee and actually get back up again. Hehehe.
The conditioning helps though. Seriously. Tennis balls all the way! (but maybe not until it feels better)

Is it that sharp pain that almost feels like its your bone? I felt it in the upper half of my forearm (more towards my elbow)… It ended up just being muscle pain.
Mine was set off by moved where all the weight was on the bottom arm… Like advanced plank.
Veena’s forearm exercises help condition the forearm. Now I don’t really experience that pain…

WOW. Spelling before coffee isnt a good idea.
That should have said inadvertently 😛 -
Polenation.com has a directory that lists basically all studios in the US. You might want to browse through for inspiration (don’t copy obviously) and to make sure you’re nit inadvertsbtly using the name someone else already thought of.
You can get a feel for the different kind of names out there… There are the ones that are basic (Boston Pole Fitness) sexy (Dance Exotic), fitness related (Core Fitness), and those one that use pole as a pun (A Pole New You)… And that’s just on the first page!

Yeah, I should add that our office does not use any stock images of people…. but it would be very accepted (in the industry) if we did. We don’t have many images anywhere… maybe clipart type images of a mouth mirror on the business cards and thats it. We don’t really advertise much (I’m still in the process of trying to make our webpage). Word of mouth and happy patients are the best advertisement. Just for Ortho we have an ad in the local paper (still).
I don’t know if I even paid much notice to the images when deciding what studio I would attend.
I chose mainly on location (is it far? is it in a nice area?) and times.
The times were an issue for me. For some studios beginner classes were at a good time.. but if I progressed out of beginner, the intermediate would be impossible for me to get to… So those studios were out. I ended up choosing one that works out of a girls house and is very accommodating and has small mixed level classes and I’m happy I did.
I suppose now that I look all the pictures are of her, and graphics that she personally made (I’ve since discovered thats her day job) but going into it a true pole-virgin I probably didn’t pay it too much attention.

Hm… Nice food for thought!
In my field (dentistry) there is A LOT of that and it’s very accepted. You see big beautiful smiles on billboards and websites. Are they actual patients? No. (Of course the “before” and “after” pics on webpages should be actual patients… Usually those are mouth only pics). But really, it’s just easier for people to hire a web design company and marketing firm that uses stock images than it is to find patients who want to agree to that, and it’s maybe a little weird to use a real patient, who may one day want to go somewhere else, or move away.
Growing up (high school age) I was in my orthodontist’s newspaper ads (we now work together). And people still recognize me from them, and it’s a little weird now because patients still expect me to be that 17 year old.
I think it could go either way here. If the instructors wanted to be in the ads that would be nice… If they are attractive/friendly looking people. But truth be told the owner is not the instructor so she may not want someone else “being the face of her business”. If the instructor quits or gets fired that would be weird. And they have no students yet… So they can’t put up a pic of someone they taught to pole.
I don’t really see an issue with it, but I’m curious to see what people think.

My guess is your ceilings will be fine. Sometimes the poles make little scuff marks, but usually everything is pretty good, I know some people have them on popcorn ceilings. Personally my ceiling has suffered more damage from me kicking it than anything else. Whoops!

It’s still around after a few failed craigslist transactions. People always bail the minute I pack the pole in my car 😛 let me know if anyone is interested.

Im terrible at shoulder slides though. I feel like my hands stick and my shoulders slide. So I’m not moving in a coordinated fashion. Haha.

Beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing.

I am relatively new to the community… and I was never given the impression that you were backed by X-pole. Until it was brought up recently I wasn’t even aware you were and X-pole dealer (but like you said sooooo many people are, and my instructor is as well, which is why I purchased it through her).
I did get a cute SV card with my X-pole, which had a code for the free 3 day trial. I assume thats marketing and you pay for that… not the other way around. But maybe that leads people to think there is a connection?
The truth is that products aside… I have both… and like both…
We have seen time and time again X-poles customer service bends over backwards to keep their customers happy and replace defective parts (as Lucca Valentine can attest to)…
and while PS is super nice and helpful they do not stand behind their products like Xpole does. SSSSSSOOOoooooooooo many people have the same complaint about their SSA pole being stuck (like mine), and that the connections are clearly defective (or why else would they have switched the design like 4 times in the no so distant past)… and really the only options are to get a new pole or pay to ship it back ($$$) and get a new connection installed. Thats not cheap.
I think both produce quality products… and good customer service… its just that there is one that goes above an beyond, making it hard not to compare.
Also, just an observation: I think that if you look at the 2 websites PS looks like it caters more to the sexy/stripper dancing. There is nothing wrong with that. I like that too… But X-pole looks more focused around beauty in strength not just big boobs and little bathing suits. Also I feel like from a safety aspect you’d know right off the bat X-poles are fitness poles are serious about safety.. while PS has a pole that mounts on the hitch of car (not knocking it really, cause it sounds fun). These are just things I’ve noticed. That being said, I know studios seem to love the PS poles for a fixed option. So they are def doing something right.

MemberSeptember 24, 2014 at 6:33 am in reply to: I wish I hadn’t bought a used pole on ebayI also wanted to add that for some reason many of us experience better grips at the studio, even when we have the exact poles! Sometimes (though yours may be beat up) a heavily used pole at the studio may be more broken in. I used to have to warm up my pole so much at home… And at the studio it was much faster… Plus during warm ups we moved around the pole with strength moves getting it warm. That’s something I tended to skip at home. So I’d be slipping and sliding all over my chrome pole wondering why. Leaving a space heater on it before I poled helped.
Then I got my TG and it remains to be seen how much I’ll need to do that this winter.
I know there havre been threads on this here before. Sometimes poles just take some getting used to at home. Or maybe it really is the finish on the pole.
Best of luck luck in whatever you choose.

MemberSeptember 24, 2014 at 6:18 am in reply to: I wish I hadn’t bought a used pole on ebayIf it not toooooo old s version (ie. Does it have x joints) you can call Xpole buy a new piece or two. There main parts of the pole are sections A and B. Those can be replaced without replacing everything. You might even be fine keeping scratched up extensions depending on your ceiling height and how often you use that height on the pole.
I’m not sure the cost but it’s definitely less than a new pole and maybe equivalent to powdercoating.

I was already planning (hoping to start) doing Veena’s stretching lessons 3x a week…
or maybe do the splits in 6 weeks routine (but stretched only 3x a week and longer than 6 weeks).I haven’t watched Veena’s stretching videos yet, but I’m going to assume they are good. I’ve been meaning to… ya know, just so much to watch, so little time. 🙂

I’ve heard the Xpole SS is slippery, but the PS SS is actually really grippy if you aren’t a big sweater. My dry skin makes me slip on Chrome, it was better on SS and best on the TG.
I know, it’s so much to think about!

MemberSeptember 20, 2014 at 2:37 pm in reply to: SS Platinum Stages Pole or Chrome X-Pole?I’ve had (still have) 3 poles.
Xpole chrome. I found it pretty slippery, but useable. Warming it up is important.
The PS SS is my stage pole. I find the SS pretty grippy, much grip pier than my chrome when warm. But I heard this isn’t true of the xpole SS.
Then, my babbbbyyyy, A Titanium Gold Xpert. I’d recommend it, and I know a lot of people here would too. In the studio the poles get used a lot and are broken in and grippy. I love the TG and while its grippy, I never find it too grippy. I don’t need to warm it up as much.

Oh Mila! I’m sorry I kept missing you… It’s been crazy with the kiddo starting school and playing 3 sports. It’s a good kind of crazy but still crazy. Oh and I spilled coffee on my laptop and other madness. 😛
I’m happy you’re finding your voice and your style. I know I let outside factors influence me too much sometimes… You gotta do you and be you and forget everything else 🙂
Can’t wait to see the red hair!

Wish I had something good to send you! Maybe I’ll make hubs break out the “real” camera this weekend.

If it makes you feel better I have had money refunded to a canceled card before. After the whole Target debacle my bank canceled my card and issued a new one for safe measure…
Then I needed to return a few things that I bought before I knew they were canceling the card (a pair or jeans and a hair straightener). Neither store had issues refunding it without that card being active… And the money was successfully refunded.
It can be done! And I’m sure it will be done… But yeah, what I giant pain in the butt.
And yes, the texting cellphone stuff is bizarre

I don’t think there was any issue with you posting this. There are people posting complaints about all sorts of companies on here… From big to small. Platinum Stages comes to mind, and even people complaining about Glitter Heels.
In my opinion as long as you update the forum with “ok, I called them on Monday and they were really helpful” or “when I spoke with them they told me they wouldn’t refund me” then that’s fine.
It’s a huge headache and hassle and it’s ok to share that experience. Maybe it was intentional.. Or “fraud”… But once when I was tight on cash and pregnant Panera charged my credit card like 999.00 instead of 9.99 and I bugged out…. So I get that.
The glitter heels thread actually maybe detered me from ever placing an order… This thread just made me realize I should read and save my receipts!
