Side note: I just went to sign up for my normal “mixed level” class on Wed and it now says “intermediate/advanced” and I was texting with my instructor anyway so I mentioned it… And she said she didn’t want a beginner to sign up for it because it would just be too hard to teach. Since there are usually 2-4 of us “regulars” every Wed. So I guess it’s really hard to make everyone feel like they got their money’s worth.

Bummer!
All classes where I go are mixed levels, and I often have days that I’m the weakest one in class (even though I’ve probably been going the longest). Of course its hard not to compare and feel defeated, but its something you need to practice, just like any other part of pole. 🙁 I do feel like I’ve gotten a lot better, and I rarely let it effect me these days. I just try and do my personal best. (That being said, I’ve said numerous times on here I’m intimidated about going to like pole conventions…I always say, I’ll go when I get better)
About the instructor… It’s part of her job to make you feel encouraged and welcomed. However, I will agree teaching a mixed level class is HARD and takes some planning… and if you’re not really sure who is going to show up to class that day its hard to plan. Seems like she had a Plan A for the advanced students and a plan B for the beginners… but didn’t have something in between. :/
Should she have said (just using legs as an example) “I would try and focus on keeping your legs straighter in your invert, you can work up to this by straightening one leg at a time” or whatever… instead of saying “or you could keep doing it your way”. BUT instructors are just people, and sometimes they don’t phrase everything perfectly, and put their foot in their mouth.
I would try not to take it personally (I know, easier said that done) and I’d just try and switch up the class time or instructor for the remainder of your lessons. You may find yourself the most advanced one in your next class… Who knows!

polekat, I notice you using the weights during your splits, do you find that helps?
Any technique tips?
-
Thanks for the tips guys! In general Im such a tight stiff person, It really takes a lot of time for me to relax into anything resembling something even close to a split, so while we do stretch those muscles in class I just never get to that stretched out point I know I can get to.
I think it’ll improve eventually if I just keep at it. 🙂

Thanks Polekat! I’m glad I asked!
Part of me thought it might help, and the other part thought it might just make me tighten up!
I think I’ll stick with my current routine of stretching and just be patient. 😛 I just get frustrated because I know my flexibility soooo much better after a good stretch of the right muscles… and then we try banana splits and it looks like this: https://www.studioveena.com/photos/view_photo/54a090ee-48d8-48af-91bd-59090a9aa0eb
HAHAHHAHA

Great job everyone!!!!!! I’m here with more stupid questions!
Besides immediately post-stretching, when do you find yourself the most loose? Or tight? An hour? A day? A few days?
When I stretch at home for my splits it takes LOTS of warming up and then I rotate between my hamstrings, quads, hip flexors, and foam rolling all until I feel loose enough to try my splits stretches. OK, sounds normal enough.
BUT what if I’d like to feel loose and limber before pole class (makes things like chopsticks or jade better/easter)…
In class we always warm up and stretch and stuff… but not like to the same degree obviously (or we’d never have time for anything else). So I’m wondering if there is a way to pre-stretch? And what would be a good time to do that?
After almost an hour in the car on the way it’s hard to stay warm, so its not like I can just stretch and show up at class with that same looseness! I’m wondering if pre-stretching would help at that point or make me tighter. Maybe I should stretch really thoroughly the night before?!?
This may take some trial and error but I’m just throwing it out there to see what other people do/think! 😀

How is everything else going guys? I’m stretching or at least trying to stretch after my showers a few nights a week. The other day my side splits felt tight but I miraculously felt better in my middles. 🙂 -
Not to butt in but could you buy yourself a gift card and then activate it next month? Or doesn’t it work like that… Just being nosey 😜

Day 18 http://instagram.com/p/yBOQzvDLMk/
It’s hard for me to makes these look sexy and not like exercise… But yet are a good ab workout.
Also did it in shoulder mount prep position! -
Thanks Caz! I didn’t like press up without the pole. I still used it…. Then slowly tried to balance without it. Little by little. And I had a second or two where I did!
-
Ok, thanks Veena! I figured it was core strength. I was trying to engage but I think I was focused on balancing at that point.
I can’t see In the mirror when I’m that low. I think I’m going to use my computer or another mirror next time so I can make some real time adjustments. 🙂

Day 17. http://instagram.com/p/x-lz3cDLEM/
I’m not great at these… And it would have made the most pathetic and boring video ever so I just posted a pic.
I feel like I’m getting better… But my back is really hollowed… And it looks bad. I feel like I’m doing something wrong. I watched the new lessons while back (very helpful btw) but didn’t have a chance to rewatch today. It’s on my to do list. Oh well.

I know it’s different for custom orders but… my husband ordered a custom leather jacket from some guy (don’t ask me, there is a huge eye roll happening here on my end) but the guy is booked YEARS out on orders. But he doesn’t charge you until he starts or purchases the materials for your jacket.
I’d be upset too! Good luck and keep us in the loop!

Kira, I’m not 100% sure what you mean…. But would bookmarking the link work? You can also make folders of bookmarks.

Ok day 15: http://instagram.com/p/x5okR9jLD_
It’s late and my flu filled husband is quarantine in our bedroom… So here a quick back bend slide! I’m afraid if I don’t do each day I’ll fall behind and quit. So I’m trying to do each day on time. I wish I put more time into some of the days 🙁

opps I never posted my Day 14 here! Here it is: http://instagram.com/p/x226CyjLNv
This was surprisingly hard on static!
Its almost 10:00 and I’m going to try and quickly fit in my Day 15 in the next half hour or so. My husband is sick with the flu (ugh! he had the flu shot too. he is on tamiflu though, so hoping it passes quickly and we all don’t get it) but I’ve been doing mommy duty to a kid and a puppy so I’m exhausted.. 🙂

I’m thinking of getting some shoes with some glitter, which I realize may need some extra TLC….
My concern with the studs/jewels would be that they would scratch the pole! EEKK! Or maybe even the floor? I don’t know.

Yikes Tina! That doesn’t look safe! Luckily you weren’t hurt! Thank goodness.
