I have been thinking about investing in an xpole to practice at home and I was curious for those of you that use an xpole. Do you use a ceiling mount or just the tighten it up method? Why do you do what you do? Do you feel safe on it? I'm about 210lbs and I'm terrified to be one of those girls on YouTube falling off the pole because it comes undone.

I use both right now, because I have poles in 2 different rooms and I LOVE using the mount! The dome is great and secure as well, (when installed right, as with ANY pole) but using the mount makes switching out, removing and setting up super fast and easy. If you don't mind drilling a few holes into the ceiling I highly recommend the mount!
ANY pole can fall, even those that have screwed in mounts. It is SOOOOOOO important to check your pole routinely. Changes in temperature can cause your floor/ceiling to shrink making a tight pole loose. I just use the dome right now.
Xpole has a new product called a "competition mount". It secures the base of the pole to the floor with a little screw/pin. So you can use that in combination with a ceiling mount for extra security. It cost 9.99 and its not up on their site yet but you can call and order it:-)
I have an X-Pert (it's one that just tightens into place between ceiling and floor) and when I started I was 260-ish and I've not had mine fall (I check it regularly and take it down for cleaning at least once a week if not more often.) Poles can fall- it happens- but if you are safe and check how sturdy everything is before EVERY session; your chances of having an accident are reduced drastically. Also if you do the research there are plenty of reccomendations for polers who have a little more weight and what type of pole they should use and why.
Thank you so much to everyone that responded! I think I'm going to go ahead and get the pole without the mount(s) for now and eventually get them especially if I don't feel safe afte my first use.
A standard X-Pole can have additional upper dome support by using a ceiling plate. All that is is a thin disc of wood about 10mm (3/8") thick which fits inside the upper done and which is attached to the ceiling, into a joist, with 2 screws. It can be painted the same colour as the ceiling so it nearly disappears. You then install your X-Pole normally, with the upper dome locating the upper dome over the disc. Should the pole want to slip the ceiling disc holds the dome in place. We have uploaded a couple of not so good pics into the photo album on Veena and will add a suppliment sheet on how to make one next week. In the interim should you want to get a PDF of the sheet, please amil us and we will sednyou one. It will be added to our web site and on Veena next week.
