X-pert pole and ankle spins

I'm curious if anyone else has encountered a problem doing a ankle spin on an X-pert pole. And if so how to fix it. My 3 hex screws are never completely flush with the pole. Whenever I try to do the ankle spin I get scratches. The screws just seem to be at the awkward height of where I naturally want to place my ankles to the start the spin. If I do manage to start off higher on the pole I still get scratched as the screws are where I would naturally finish. Any advice to overcome this would be much appreciated.
