XMAS LIGHTS NEAR POLE?

I have seen a lot of girls with the lights near their poles in videos and such. what does this do? ❓ . or where do i put them around?. i was kind of thinking running them just around the little bit of floor area when I am on the pole, or the ceiling to stay 😎 . BUT, I was also looking at the different lights at Spencers and stuff at the mall here 😉 . I know the lights are for effects. But do YOU use them? ❓ . what are they mainly used for? ❓ .
