X Pole regular maintenance?

Having just bought a beautiful new X pert what should I be doing as maintenance? My old type screw one was up for a year without me doing anything, it was a bitch to undo but with the special release tool we managed it. Having read on here about x joins slipping/getting stuck etc I thought I should try to make sure I avoid any problems with my new one. Thanks is advance guys :)
