X-Pole vs Lil' Mynx

Hi Everyone, I just posted but it didn't post so I'm going to try being a bit briefer 🙂 I live in Canada and the studios in the area use both these pole types and can order them. I am leaning towards an x-pole but I do have a few questions. First, is the reason that Lil Mynx says the pole is removable but most of you don't think it is because it requires a bolt? Are x-poles really stable (I've tried one and liked it, but I haven't done any of the stuff you ladies have yet). Second, what type of finish would you recommend on the x-pole. I have read the posts on this but I'm still confused. What would be similar to the stainless steel Lil Mynx poles as I want to use something similiar to what we are using at the studio. Hi! I have a Lil Mynx pole and I LOVE it! I have had no problems with it at all. I have a 50mm spinning/static stainless pole. It is the only brand pole I know that works with a vaulted ceiling, which I have. It is removeable. It does have a bolt that goes in a ceiling joust. When you take down the pole (very easy to do), it leaves the mount in place, but is covered easily by what looks like a plant hook. Most the girls on here the X-poles and love them, but I love my lil mynx!

I have had both. My first was a Lil' Mynx Black-powered coated Rotator and I liked it a lot. The plant hook ceiling mount was all that was left and was barely noticable unless you have people who starte up at ceilings a lot. Plus you actually can hang stuff from it like plants or mobiles from it. I could take it down faster and get it up with less effort than the x-pole. I also liked that it was one solid peice and their customer service is top notch. I've never had such a pleasant, stress-free, easy experience. I hadn't accounted for carpet softness so the mount would come unscrewed but intitially we (the CEO and I were trouble shooting on the phone) didn't realize that so they took my current pole back and shipped me a new one in under a week at no charge to me, no strings attached. The main reason I switched to a chrome X-pole is because I moved and my ceiling is under 8ft (by 1.5inches grrr) but I am happy with x-pole. I find it harder to take up and down because it is in pieces and the pieces sometimes get stuck but if you aren't concerned about needing to quickly take it down than it shouldn't be a problem. But being in several pieces makes it easy to move with since it can adjust to a variety of ceiling heights. Both are solid poles and good companies. So if you'll be moving a lot and don't want to consider ceiling height, I'd get an x-pole. But if you won't be moving much and/or will always take a place with ceiligns between 8-10 ft, I'd go with lil' mynx. Either way they're both great and you'll be highly satisfied.

Hi, So if I understand correctly, you couldn't set up your Lil' Mynx in 2 different places very easily? I spend about 1/2 my time at my house and 1/2 at by boyfriend's house. Christine

No, you can set it up 2 different places easily (if you have a car that can hold an 8ft long pole, a rav4, subaru, etc). You will need either 2 mounts or move your mount between the two places. The reason I had to switch is because my new place's ceilings are too short. They have to be between 8 to 10 ft.

The chrome would be the closest to stainless steel but will be a bit more grippy then SS. Titanium gold has more grip like brass. I have heard good and bad things about Lil mynx, so its nice to hear some good!! One thing to remember about buying a pole that is not in pieces would be the cost of shipping. My first pole was a one piece and the price of the pole wasn't too bad but the shipping was a LOT!! If your staying in your home and know you want your pole in one place for a long time a lil mynx might be good. I love my X poles and never really move them so the set up really isn't an issue. I have never tried a lil mynx but would like to, its great to hear their customer service is good. I like that. If you know you HAVE to take your pole down every time lil mynx might be a touch faster 🤔 You don't have to disassemble all of the pieces of the X to take it down, you could just unscrew the top dome and be done with it. The pieces make traveling with it easy. 🌸

Christine You can definately set it up at another location. I have the vaulted ceiling mount in my living room, and a regular mount outside connected to my patio cover. All I do is move my pole outside, lower it a lilttle bit and connect it to the outside mount. It's great! I also love that it is one piece. When I have to take it down real quick the whole length of the pole (10') fits great behind my couch to conceal it!

Hi, Thanks again for the feedback. In Canada, the LM with shipping is still actually cheaper than the X pole by a bit, but I hadn't really thought through the transportation issue. I don't really want to be driving through town with the pole on my roof 🙂 (I live in a small town and I teach high school, so it could be an issue 😉 ). I've read the thread on having to get a LM worn in so it isn't too slippy. So if I bought an X do you think it will be a lot different in terms of grip when compared to a well worn in LM pole at the studio or should I be okay? New Dancer

It is the only brand pole I know that works with a vaulted ceiling, which I have.Platinum Stages sells a vaulted ceiling adapter for their poles.

New Dancer I started with the LM pole and travel became an issue when I started making pole friends. Plus you have to drill into everyone's ceiling if you want to use your pole at their house. The pole is solid but it really should be mounted to the floor as well. I found because of the carpet issue my pole would move a lot and when I eventually took it down it left a rather large hole in my ceiling and my joist. If the basic Lm was the same price as PS or X I would say forget it but because the basic static colored pole is close to $100 cheaper I think it's a good value for a pole. As far as break in period - there have been mixed reviews. You always have to break in a stainless LM but with X you may or may not have a break in time. I bought my X used from a friend - she never used her pole because the X was too slippy. When she came over and played on PS she said she would not be selling her pole if it was as grippy as the PS. I didn't actually use my X for months but once I put it up I found it grippier myself. I also took the time to wipe it down and prep it when she sold it to me too. Jenn and I cleaned it with acetone so anything that may have been on it from manufacturing or shipping was eaten away. I've heard several people say their X pole was slippy in the beginning.

Hi Again, This is all fantastic information. Thanks for taking the time to share. So are you saying that PS stainless poles are grippier than X and Lil Mynx poles? That kind of surprises me so I wanted to make sure I understood properly. I checked out the PS website. The website was a bit more confusing, but it seemed to me that they were more expensive (for non-permanent poles) than the X poles? Other than the grippy issue any big differences between PS and X poles? Because my studio uses Lil Mynx I'm thinking the X may be the easiest to use (since I do move between 2 houses a lot) and the closest to what I'll use at the studio. (Although if I really become addicted I may end up buying a different pole for our second place anyway 🙂 New Dancer

At first, stainless is the worst as far as grip goes. The stainless needs to be conditioned over time so it eventually will get more grippy, but to start out with, it's the worst. After it's broken in, I'm not sure where it ranks exactly. Other than the stuff from manufacturing that Charley mentioned, X-Poles don't really need to be broken in... just make sure your clean it when you get it to take off anything they put on it to protect it during shipping and you'll be fine. This is the grip continuum: stainless > chrome > titanium > brass From the sounds of it, an X-Pole would be great for you if you have 2 different homes that you go back and forth between. It packs up nicely and comes with carrying cases. It doesn't require fixtures or needs to be screwed in and won't damage ceilings or floors if put up properly. Lil Mynx and Platinum Stages both make a similar pole but they're both more expensive than an X. Even if it's different than your studio's poles, I'm sure you wouldn't have any complaints. 👍

wow I know I'm way late on this... Foxy is right stainless is LEAST grippy. I have used all those poles, personally i dont like any of them but X- Pole. Lil Mynx is slick as all get out and it scoots on the carpet which can be dangerous, as well as its not near as sturdy as an X Pole...(that's the standard Lil Mynx Im talking about. I havnt used any of the other ones they now offer) but i really disliked the grip/stability factor when I played on my girlfriends Lil Mynx. I also wasn't a huge fan of PS...i thought they were slick also...compared to my chrome X. But they were ok. I love Brass...its GREAT for grip. But yes I recommend X pole...hands down. Its worth the extra money and taking it down and putting it up may be a tad tricky the first maybe 2-3 times but I can set that thing up in 5 minutes, ALONE...and ive only taken it down a few times. Get an X pole anyone reading this wonder which to get haha!
