X-pole against ceiling girder.

I live in an old converted warehouse. And rather then try to find a 14 foot pole, I'm going to put my pole under an exposed support beam which drops it down to just over 10 feet. My first question is... I'm getting a x-pole and I know the top dome is 15", will it matter that the beam is only 12" wide? It's rock solid. (Been in the same spot since 1893, so it's not going anywhere.) Also I have bamboo floors, I know they're softer than normal hardwood floors, will the pole affect that? (We actually have a "no high-heels on the floor" clause in our lease. 🙁 ) I was thinking of getting a chair mat from IKEA (one of the clear ones that go under office chairs) do I even need it or will the pole be ok on the bare hardwood. TIA

Hmmm... Veena may overrule me on this but my guess would be that the pole would be fine on that girder. You'll only have an inch and a half overlap on just 2 sides of the dome... you may end up putting up some sort of ceiling plate, either one that covers the whole surface of the dome or the one that fits inside the top of the dome, to help with stability. The one that fits inside the dome would probably work better, that way you have an entire surface as well as the rubbery ring on the rim of the dome putting pressure against the girder. Just make sure the wood you use is thick enough; so it's not shorter than the rim and actually touches the girder. As far as your floors go, if you can't even wear heels on the floor then perhaps you may want to get something to put under the base of the pole. It is a pressure-mounted pole and leaves pretty good dents in carpets so you may want to play it safe. No one else has had problems with hardwood floors but... hmmm I dunno. The rubber mat idea might work, and there are also a few people on here who have put their poles on small rugs and haven't had problems (I'm not sure if an area rug would be recommended or not, though...), and that would be more attractive than the rubber mat. But once again, I'm no expert.

Thanks, I think I might try adding a piece of wood as extra support. As far as the floors go, it's more like my landlord is VERY protective of them. I don't think heels would damage them personally but.... I'm more excited that the xpole has the swively base since I literally have no exactly level spot in my apartment. (Again OLD building, my entertainment center leans so far askew that the drawers open by themselves.) I'm so excited, I've been waiting for this pole for over a year and a half. It's always been something, last week I was ready to order and the stupid cat ate a lilly. I learned that all lillies are toxic for cats and a bouquet can cost about $400 if you have a dumb cat... 😳 Luckly the cat is OK and I only had to put off my order date a week. I order tomorrow or friday, wish me luck.
