Working on backbend in splits

I eventually plan to get to the last rung. Quite a ways to go . Any suggestions or comments appreciated:)

I don't have any suggestions but wanted to tell you this looks good. I just started working on these. Ugh! I have no back bend in this position at all! Haha! Hope I get to the stage you are at right now. :)
Thank you! I had no bend at all when I started lol . So it is possible with persistence to get this or even better :)
have you always worked on these with this stretching device? I dont know what its called, but it looks pretty handy. Im gonna try getting creative with my yoga strap and attach it to a door knob or pole or something and use the strap to stretch back a little further. looks like your gonna get to your goal by just continuing what you are already doing. if you can already grab the bar you are currently on with both hands maybe you can challenge yourself more by putting the strap on the bottom rung and just going a tiny bit further than this current rung. just gradually inching back. Im sure it will take some time, but pulling back just a fraction of an inch at a time should get you there I would think. of course over the span of weeks or months at a time. not in one session.
Wow!! Amazing split!! The only suggestion I have is to keep your arms straight when doing the backbend. I did learn this from the "get bendy" dvd, where they teach you to do a straight backbend and the better way to do it is with your arms straight and controling your abs. Anyway, great work!!! :)

Awesome flexibility! It looks like your shoulder mobility might be one of the limiting factors here. The more flexible your shoulders are, the easier this is for your back. Here's a great stretch that I've been working on myself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWb5fEtcDsY
Thank you all for your feedback! Phoenix, I haven't always used this (stretch gym) I personally had to do a ton of bridges and dropbakcs Before I could really even get into a posistion to work this . Also, sometimes I bring my foot to head in splits and slowly try to bring the foot back and straighten the arm .thank you for the tip about walking down the strap Andrea and Haloanne, you so right on about the shoulders ! They are the tightest part of my body . I'll will try harder with keeping the arm straight and also I will try the wall stretch you recommended . Do you think the fit and.bendy DVD would be helpful? Thanks again !

In my opinion, the Fit & Bendy DVD doesn't really offer much when it comes to backbends, especially shoulder flexibility. I didn't really even understand how important shoulders are, until I saw some of Lina Spiralyne's clips on Youtube (for free) and Sofia Venanzetti's flexy tutorials (costs something). Sofia has an awesome 20 minute tutorial on neck and shoulder flexibility that's really intense, but they're essentially the same or variations of those that are on Lina's videos.
Oh man, now I want a stretchgym. I haven't even out my stall bars up yet!

I have been very inactive for a long time and then the first thing I see now is this! Thanks Haloanne for your kind words, I'm glad you seem to have found my stuff helpful! What I wanted to add here is that you may want to separate your arms more in this backbend in order to help yourself to access more of your upper back flexibility. You are "allowed" to do as you want but keeping them as closely spaced as you do here can get you quite "stuck". Now your "ladder" doesn't look very broad, but if I were you I'd attache those straps as much to the edges as possible. The more separated your arms are, the easier it is to straighten them as well (someone recommended straight arms). So shortly, it's more challenging to keep arms together than separated in a backbend. I sometimes use this fact to give myself a harder time (even though the shoulders are also my weak point in flexibility) when I do bridges by walking my hands together, but for someone who feels tight it may be to much at once to both do a heavy backbend and to keep arms close :).
