My pole is 35mm, and I love it - I have quite small hands and have a really difficult time with a 50mm. What type of pole are you looking at with that diameter?
I have smaller hands (7.5" thumb tip across to little finger tip spread) and find the 45mm great for learning new tricks, but then I move to the 50mm for perfecting them. I've tried a 35mm pole and found it very, very tiny. However, from what I've heard, start as big as you can cope with. I started on 50mm and it means I have no problems with either 45 or 50mm. There's only 1.6cm difference in circumference between them (ex-engineer husband). ergo, the 35mm could be 30mm approx smaller in circumference.
thanks a lot for your answers 🐱 My budget just allows a 3,7mm diameter pole without a good grip or a xpole with 5,00mm. what do you think is better for me? I'm just really afraid that i can't hold myself on the pole because of the diameters 😁

What is the club standard in your country? I suggest always going with the standard size so that if you ever wanted to (I know right now maybe you don't) you could dance publicly at a club (exotic or non exotic) or at other venues and pole schools. I am a very small person and have no problems with full 2 inchers. Your grip improves over time. I've seen tiny, tiny girls with tiny hands do some amazing things on full size poles.
Sorry to crash on the thread but can i ask advice as its related to the thread. I recently brought the 50mm chrome x pole and am really struggling to do anything on it. My hand from thumb tip to little finger is only 6.5" and so i am really struggling to hold on. Im wondering if I would benefit from getting the 45mm pole instead (when I have more money ofc). And would the titanium finish be better for me as we use polished steel in class which i have no problems using but the chrome one i end up flat on my ass without even completing a quarter of a spin on basic spins that give me no problems in class with. Thanks again ladies 🙂

I'm 5'3 and have pretty small hands. I just got a new pole yesterday and tried it out and I love it!!! It's a 45mm from Lil' Mynx (1.75inches, they call it the petite pole). Anyways, I definitely recommend the smaller diameter, I'm already having an easier time doing tricks than with my 2inch (50mm). As for grip, I haven't had any practice on a different finish so I don't know which is better. =)

If you ever want to compete or dance in a club in the US then stick with a 50mm (2in) it is the standard here. If you learn on a 45mm skinny pole moving to a larger pole will suck big time!! I have both in my home and if I stop using my 50 for a few weeks I really notice how poor my grip is when I go back on the 50. If you just want to pole for health and fun at home then 45s are great! 🌸
thanks a lot at all =) 🐱

I have teeny tiny hands and I use a 50mm chrome... I haven't measured my hand, but my ring size is a 4.5, so you can imagine how small they are... I've had some problems with my finger joints aching when I'm warming up practicing, but I think that's not necessarily due solely to the size of the pole. I'd rather have the 50 and get used to it then if I ever encounter a 45 it'll seem like a walk in the park 🙂
so, i have my pole x) i bought a 50 mm x-pole , i am happy and i hope i dont get any problems =) i am so happy ~ happy ~ happy!!!! 😁
Once you have the grip, the 50mm will be fine. Most of my students use the 50mm, and that's a range of heights from >5 foot to 6foot+ hand grip squeezy things are good for building up hand strength, no idea what they're called.

Lol...I had to take a peek on amazon to see what they arecalled: "Hand grip strengtheners", "Hand Grippers" or "Hand exercisers". Nothing fancy. Unless you get the Captains of Crush Hand Gripper hehe, aye aye captain! 🫡
