What to look for in a pole?

Hi Veeners! I have been just browsing a few of your videos and I have to say I am really jealous and can't wait to start! So I've been looking online and it seems there are tons of different types of poles, just in the Xpole brand even. I was hoping you could give me a few pointers? Please :) Is the brand absolutely important? I ask because Xpole are supposed to be really great quality and are even featured on this site, so I trust them. However, they are really pricey (for me, a college student :). Can I get away with a cheaper brand or is that too risky? Does the metal matter? I see Titanium and chrome; chrome seems to be less expensive. And lastly, what's a good size? I have smallish hands (playing my flute makes my pinky sore from stretching) so I have been leaning towards a 45 mm. I see they also offer 50 mm and 40 mm. Thanks for reading all that! ❤️

glad to see your enthusiasm! Brand is important because there are a lot of cheap imitation poles out there that are not safe to do actual tricks on (four best brands are X-pole, Platinum stages, Lil Mynx, and Pole Danzer). I'm a college student as well but I used some of my loan money to get a Titanium gold x-pole because its so worth the money. You could always try to buy a used pole off of someone on here or craigslist. The metal determines the grippiness. If you are someone who is a heavy sweater like me, I would lean towards titanium because its designed to be grippier. Size depends on what you would prefer to do more on. If you are looking for more leg tricks, go with the 50. If you want to be able to do suspensions off of the pole, the smaller the pole the easier it is. I like 45 because its a happy medium but each person has their own size and finish preference.

If you are small, I think you would be happier with a 45 or 40. I am short with small hands and I cannot work with a 50. I know some girls can, but I just can't. My torso is too short, my hands are too small, etc. Thigh grips on a 45 aren't too tough once you get used to it. It honestly took me one practice session to adapt to a 45 from a 50. I find knee pit grips easier on the 45 and even easier on the 38's. Chrome is great for spins. Is tick to it really well, but I get really tacky skin when i exercise. Titanium is good for body gripping, but can be tougher for spins (though still doable.)
