I really dont like wavy legs in an Ayesha, Chopper, Shoulder Mount V, or any of those similar variations. I think it looks much better with lovely straight legs held in place, rather than bending at the knee and waving them around. I also don't like when people bounce in the splits. This probably goes back to when I did gymnastics as a child and we were told never to bounce in our stretches, heh 😀, but I also think it looks a little crass. And same as most other people, non-pointed toes infuriate me! It's such a simple thing you can do to make your moves look so much prettier and tidier, and it engages your legs muscles too, making your calves and thighs look longer and more toned. I'm pretty proud of my side climb, so I'm a little sad that everyone thinks it's so ugly! It's not the most pretty move, sure, but I think mine looks like a tidy and presentable transition, anyway. 🙂 I do it as a spinning climb, to make it a little more interesting, too. I'm not such a fan of people doing a straight climb who bring one leg up and then the other. The way I was taught is the way Felix climbs... by lifting your ankles together, and I think this looks prettier. I think I like most other pole moves, even the ones everyone else seems to hate, like the Wrist Seat, Teddy, Yogini, and Genie. I've seen good dancers make all of these look beautiful. What really irks me is people who execute their moves lazily, without bothing to try a full extension. Particularly moves like the Scorpio and Gemini, if they grab their back foot and just hang there. I much prefer to see it with an arched back, pulling the leg away and opening up through the hip, even if the dancer isn't very flexible. In my opinion it's not enough to just 'get' the move, and check off that your arms and legs are in place... you gotta own the move and make it look good! Just my opinion. 🙂

I find this thread super interesting! AND i DO TONS OF REALLY UGLY STRENGTH MOVES AND i REALLY HAVE NO INTENTION OF APOLOGIZING FOR IT!!!!!ha ha ha ...I'm a strong person and to tell you the truth a lot of people are offended by my muscular dancing but at the end of the day this is how my body ended up and how it wants to move. Pole dancing is an art form; an expressive one. It's also pretty hard to master! a lot of years have to go into your dancing for it to slowly transform into something smooth and expressive...and a lot of those individual moves are dead spit ugly but will lead to other prettier moves; or end up being a useful transition move....It ends up being one of he most challenging things that you can try to tackle. I have a personal goal of actually dancing on the pole...I believe that it is possible to really dance up there and not just do "gymnastics" . However , I'm middle aged with a young child and not likely to ever perform;compete or even dance informally for a friend...so I'm not going to beat myself up for not attaining the levels that the pros are at. I do find it quite amazing that SO many people here have such well considered, passionate views on the aesthetics of Pole...that is what real art is all about!!! WE actually care about it! WE judge and critique and that also gives it meaning because it shows how important it is to us...

I have to say I like the side climb! oh and I love anything with wavy legs....sexyyy 🥂
Pole tricks are kinda like boobs. Some like big ones, some like small ones, some like interestingly shaped ones, some like average ones, but in the end of the day, they're all boobs and they are all good. can I use this as my status update on facebook??? I LOVE IT! To me the teddy is like an areial OBGYN visit, yes it takes some strength but its just odd. I cannot stand non pointed toes. After all my years in dance, gymnastics and cheerleading, its imbeded in me to constantly point my toes. I love a performer who has that equal mix of amazing tricks, fluid movements and just enough sexiness to keep you locked in for the entire performance. Im all about balance!

I actually love this thread it's making me reconsider a lot of "why" I even do moves...I hope to post more...please wanna hear more hated moves and why! gotta go.. Alex

I love all pole tricks. There are some tricks that are more flattering than others based on time with the move and body type. I hate the way gemini looks on me - but love it on others. I hate my extended butterfly but love it on other people who have the flexibility for it. I don't like ayshas ot straight edge's that are on the pole (not super fond of them even close to the pole.) I hate brass monkey on me but have seen it on others and loved it, I hate my side climb but I do love Jenynes.
I will preface this by saying, these are the moves that I don't like putting in my practice or choreography, as opposed to watching other people perform them. Most things with excessively bent knees I'm not a fan of - knee hold, brass monkey, yogini, cupid with the bottom leg bent & hooked on the pole, marley, etc. I think its just because I don't like the lines on those moves, although one or two of them in a routine can look nice. 🤔 Performance wise I prefer ones that have a nice balance of flow, transitions, spins & tricks, I find ones that just stuff as many tricks as possible in harder to appreciate because you don't have time to admire the moves, and their transitions are clunky and awkward. I may be starting arguments here, but my personal opinion is I don't like male pole dancers trying to dance like female pole dancers - I find watching it uncomfortable. I understand that's probably because that's how their taught, but I love more seeing strong moves/ slow lifts in guys, who are true to their own original style of dance (i.e. club dancing or break dancing) - and I mean seriously how would you feel if you saw some random guy on the dancefloor at the club grinding his hips like a chick? ew!

personally I LOVE ALL tricks!!! My biggest peaves are body placement....not pointing toes, extending arms/legs and holding moves, utilizing your body space etc. I hate it when peeps climb with the bottoms of their feet though. lol Bring on the "strength" moves...... 😀 Bring on the "dancy" moves.... 😀 I love em all!!!
I had to add... I really think that the "shoulder split" is an ugly move. But I love Jenyne's variation with the trapped leg. Too bad that move is so difficult, I've got the basics of it down but it's still looking kinda ugly when I try it. Oh, and I absolutely despise watching anyone kick or leap into the twisted grip handspring. There's a front handspring and a cartwheel mount handspring which are perfectly fine types of handsprings to kick or leap into. The true grip can also be used for "kicked" handsprings. But when I see kickoffs into twisted grip all I can think is "ouch" even if the rest of the dance is beautiful. Seeing this handspring kicked or leapt into distracts and disturbs me so much that it will entirely ruin an otherwise magnificent dance for me.
I love all the pole moves... really do! Remember when you were a beginner watching somebody else doing a caterpillar, caterpillar climb or a side climb - perhaps on YouTube - and just thinking "oh my god that it is the craziest thing I've ever seen!!! How is it possible?!?!! I would be the happiest person on this earth if I could do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" ...Well, that was me anyway! 😂 Yeh me too, now I can do some of thoise crazeee moves and love it 🐱 🐱
How do you get the darned quote thing to work??? 🤔

How do you get the darned quote thing to work??? 🤔 I just highlight the text that i want, then click on "quote", & it automatically takes me to the reply page with the quoted text already in the reply box!
Thats what I did but it didn't work, thanks though x 🐱 🐱
well at first i found this a little amusing, 🙂 🙂 but as i went on it started making me feel super self-concious. 😳 🙄 i almost wanted to go through vids and delete the ones i thought people were looking at and thinking.."UGH disgusting! "... but than i was like what do i care?? i mean i agree we are all adults and we are certainly entitled to our opinions. i also appreciate honesty, i just feel this is supouse to be an encouraging enviroment for everyone of all levels and backgrounds and i think there is a way you can phrase your opinion without making people feel bad. i think there is a way to express your thoughts on moves you find unattractive/unappealing w/o using words like hideious, disgusting, horrid, etc, as alot of us out here have NO dance/gymnastic/athletic background and are self taught. alot of us derive a great deal of pride and pleasure from learning various moves, feeling free to post vids uncut/unedited, our new found strength etc and when you hear that people are thinking you look horrendous or will literally stop watching your vid if you don't do something perfect it can be very discouraging for alot of people. i think if you want people to respect your opinion you have to respect theirs so i mean feel free to state what you don;t like, just try to be somewhat considerate to those of us who come here for suppourt, encouragment, and understanding. i myself LOVE pole tricks and stripper style moves of all sorts. i can't think of much i don't like as far as moves, but i am sure there are some, but i am looking for what i do like more than anything. so basically i mean at the end of the day people are going to think/say whatever anyway, and i know I am sure as hell not changing a thing about what i do and how i do it, but just realize your choice of words can have an effect on people and how comfortable they are sharing things out here. actually got me thinking my "its a ruse" video was 👸 🥂 🌸 ☀️ lame in all ways as not 1 comment on it. thought maybe just alot of vids got posted and it was overlooked, but now thinking maybe just lame moves.. hmm.. well anyway i love all your vids and progress ladies even when it's not "perfect"! KEEP DANCING< TRICKING< STRIPPING< AND POSTING!!! if YOUR happy no one else matters!

I think everyone needs to take a step back and take a deep breath, here... This thread wasn't started with the intention of making people feel bad and I highly doubt anyone that posted did so with the intention of wiping moves that we aren't fond of off the planet. And when we say we don't like a move, that doesn't mean that we dislike the dancer for doing it, or that we're sitting there rolling our eyes as we watch the video. And, just because we don't like the way a move looks doesn't mean that we don't recognize the skill it takes to do it. Half of the moves on my "dislike" list are ones that I really want to be able to do - even if they never show up in one of my videos. Everyone has their pet peeves, EVERYONE, so there's no use in taking it personally when someone's applies to you. No big deal. Do we all feel better now??? Yes, no, maybe?? 🤔 🙂
I agree with Journey. If you're getting offened or discouraged by any posts in this thread I think you're taking it the wrong way. It's just personal opinion. Some people LOATHE stripper heels because (in their opinion) they look clunky and disproportionate and ridiculous. Other people DESPISE any pole dance without them, because (to that person) it looks unfinished, not as sexy, etc. etc. Just read through the Interviews on the PoleSkivvies blog to see all the contradicting pet peeves of different dancers. Should you stop or start wearing platform heels based on these people? No! Because you have your own opinion about what looks pretty, and what you enjoy doing in your dance. Like Journey, I still really want to achieve many of the things on my "Moves That I Don't Think Look Nice' list. Because I do pole dancing not for fitness, not JUST for art. Besides beauty is always, always in the eye of the beholder. And, your audience is full of many different beholders. 😉 So stress less, and do what YOU love doing. 🥂 ☀️ 🌸 😀 👍 In the mean time, I also think the Genie is not a nice looking move. I agree with whoever said it looks kinda like you're squatting ready to pee or something, LOL!
Yeah, I definitely didn't start this thread to make people second-guess their moves. We are all such different people that we're bound to like different moves...or to think certain moves just aren't all that. But there's no way I'm going to stop doing a move *I* love just because someone else doesn't love it. Some of my favorite dancers do moves I'm not so chuffed about, but it doesn't make me like them any less as dancers, or admire them any less. Heck, everyone in the world does the inverted V, which is the move I opened the thread with. If I stopped watching videos that had inverted Vs I would never be able to watch another pole vid as long as I live, and that would be a tragedy for me. Keep on keepin' on, my crazy-about-pole-dancing friends!! 😬
well no deep breathing needed here i am dont care what anyone thinks of what i do bc not doing it for anyone but me, but for some others opinions can make or break the way they feel about posting here as i said said we are all certainly entitled to our individual opinions, and i see nothing wrong w the discussion in general, but as i also said, there is a way to word things that dont make it sound like your sitting there throwing up in your mouth while watching someones vids or moves . you can say i think stripper shoes look clunky ok big deal even if i wear them, but if you say they look hidieous, and girls wearing them make you think they look like gracless apes in them, well now if i wear them ya i will probably take some offense to it. while there are way too many peeps on here to say EVERYONE is cool and supportive etc is just not realistic, but i do belive there was no harm/offense meant w this post or any replies to it. . just wish people could find a better way to word there opionions of things they don't like. i personally have pretty thick skin and dont care half as much as i used to about what peeps say or dont about my moves/vids/etc bc no matter what you do some are just not going to be into it, and no matter how hard you try y0 u cant please everyone, this was more for the peeps who are feeling hurt/offended./discouraged after reading certain comments ( bc i know they .'re out there) but dont have whatever to speak out about it. i just think some peeps come off sounding snobby/stuck up and THAT to ME is the LEAST attractive thing of all. ( i am also entitled to an opinion right? ) so in conclusion please lets continue to share are opinions openly and honestly, but just keep in mind, it's not just a few friends reading what your writting, and you never know how badly a poorly worded comment can hurt someones feelings. again I am not angry/upset, just think we need to be on each others side and be suppourtive of peeps of all skills/styles. lets all keep up the great work ladies/gents no matter what your style! bring it on and lets build each other up! GO TEAM VEENA! 🌸 🌸 🌸
There really aren't many pole moves themselves that I am not wild about. . . but personally for myself I really dont like my side climb. LoL, that one is a pretty unattractive move for me. Now, when Veena, or almost anyone else I see does it, it looks sexy, but when I do it, I suddenly feel 'monkey-ish' , lmao!
I change my mind about what moves I 'like' and 'dislike' every week. There are general reasons to like or dislike a move (the overall shape, the connotations, the necessary entry/exit, overuse etc) and there are specific reasons (personal lines, usage context, natural ability etc). I can like the same move for some reasons and in certain situations and not like it for others. I will also learn and execute moves that I 'dislike' often. I also know that I 'like' and use some moves against my own 'better judgement' sometimes. You wouldn't neglect to work a muscle set in yoga because the move to do so looks yuk to you in the mirror. You wouldn't refuse to dance en pointe in a ballet just because your toes get sore. You wouldn't skip studying a large section of your textbook you know is going to be on the exam because you don't agree with the theory. Eventually I want every single pole move to be in my bag of tricks and even if I never end up using it, it always makes my day to get a new trick and I am so proud I post pictures and videos even though it might look a bit meh on me or it's one my Mum wouldn't be keen on. You are proud of getting an assignment done and getting a good grade on it even if you think the essay question was unimportant and your response was drivel. All pole moves rock!
exactly! there are some moves i find less visually appealing than others, but i still want to learn them all! i agree the genie and sideclimb can look awkward, but are still both great things to know. 😎 i am actually working on diffrent ways to get in and out of the genie. non-polers think it's a very impressive move, 😲 plus it certainly works your abs/hamstrings. 💣 i guess one other is scorpio flatline and apprentice, just not crazy about either. 🤓 🤓 i do use them as i do want to be able to do as many moves as possibe ( and not just do them but w best form my body allows 🫡 ) .. so i think all you ladies rock 👸 👸 👸 i love watching your videos no matter what skill level, so keep posting and remember it's suppouse to be fun! ☀️ if you do it for your own enjoyment it won't matter if some people dont care for certain moves or even your entire video. 😎 i also am glad we can have these open, honest discussions! 🌸 🌸 🌸
I can't say I've ever come across a pole move that I looked at and thought "ewww, that doesn't look good at all"! I think this is because I am just too damn impressed with the strength requirement for all moves! I guess I can't say I'm a big fan of bow and arrow... but then again I think I'm just talking about how I do it. I've seen some bow and arrow moves with super arched backs and ultra pointy toe that I thought was cool, I just can't do that! 😳 Like everyone I have an affinity towards moves that are executed smoothly with flowing lines (and pointy toes!). I do think side climb is a necessary evil... it's hard to make it look good, but I'll keep doing it or else I can't get into some things that I love! Um.... hm... what else... I love all shoes pretty much. I like stiletto heels more than chunky heels but to each their own on that one. I never really enjoyed the chair spin. Most people do that with flat feet, I myself have a hard time doing it any other way as well. Those few who can execute it with pointy toes and land smoothly have my regards! Yeah I really can't think of one that I really and truly dislike.... I even like caterpillar and caterpillar climb. It's not the most sensual pole move but, it's so cool, I mean... you're climbing upside down! 😁
