yup 😀 it's funny - I can see a move and go WOW that's really hard and the strength needed to do it is impressive...and I might even really work towards nailing/learning the move myself - but I'm never going to do it in a dance. There are so many moves that I can do that I never bother to do while I am dancing for numerous reasons...I like to freestyle and never really plan anything out...anything that I need to think about too much or can't really flow into just never seems to make it into my dance. Now the funny thing is I REALLY like to be able to do some of these moves them when practicing - for my own reasons...pride, strength, growth etc but I never actually really care to do them in my dances and kinda feel EH about them in others lol...UNLESS someone has a new twist to them or really manages to flow into them without me feeling like they are just throwing tricks for tricks sake. For me it's much more about dancing...I think that this probably carries over from my ex gymnast days...things were pretty trick based and while there was *dance* in our routines too much personality and individuality was not actually a good thing...everything was so trick based - I think I am rebeling in my old age 😀

Hmm...I do not like side climb no matter what! Im also not a big fan of teddy or yoghini. Thats not to say Im not impressed when someone learns how to do them, its just that I dont like the way they look! The one thing that I HATE is non-pointed toes! UGH! Yes, Im guilty of this myself sometimes but when I see it whether its me or someone else it really annoys me!!! 😠 Im surprised to see that a lot of people dont like Superman. I really like it! And I LOVE Fleur's version of it!! But hey this thread is about opinions and preferences so... Also Ive seen Veena get into an iguana mount really nicely in one of her videos but cant remember which one. I appreciate any trick that takes effort and strength to get into and out of, its just that some tricks are more aesthetically pleasing to me than others! Great thread polergirl!
I also really liked the Superman that Fleur did in her USPDF routine. I was astonished by how pretty her entry was, and I appreciated that it wasn't held very long. Now I should say I am a fan of both the Teddy Bear and the Yogini as well as most moves relying primarily on underarm grip (like hood ornament!). But there are few things I hate more than seeing a lazy Yogini. I guess I am a Yogini snob of sorts, because I think it's extremely important for a Yogini to make a nice, bowed shape and the knees need to be high. I always tell people when practicing this move to look slightly up, tilt the hips in toward the pole, and flex through the quadriceps to create a bowed shape. Otherwise, the knees are pointed out, and it looks lazy and ugly, like a sack of potatoes hanging off of the pole. The recent Yogini variation that Jenyne has been doing, with the leg on the side of the holding arm being pulled backward while the leg on the free side is being pulled forward into an oversplit is also lovely.
I am giggling my ass off reading this thread in some parts and in some other parts I'm like "Note to self....never do another chopper again" LOL. I am not a fan of the superman. I only want to learn it so that I can use it as a transition into other moves. I think it's hard to make a knee hold look smooth and graceful, people forget the arms I think. and that leads me into another pet peeve. Forgetting the arms. Arms flopping and flailing all over the place is not hot LOL. Genie has always been a move that made me think, why would anyone want to do that? LOL Yogini is another that is impressive because you can do it, but not very pretty. I also have to defend the Iguana Mount entry because I love that mount LOL. Karol goes into it super smooth in the vid from the JPA benefit. I'd attach a link if I could youtube from work 🙁
Oh and I'm totally guily of excessive stripperisms LOL. My bad guys!
SissyBuns, lol. Don't you ever worry about doing a chopper on my account. 😀 Maybe you will help me learn to love how it looks! Just as I will continue to caterpillar. I think it's a cool and pretty move, and I will think that even more so when I can get a reallllllly good arched back and roll it better. To each her/his own, eh? 🥂 That's the whole point!

Yeah, deefinitely to each their own. 'cause I think the Teddy is the hottest thang EVER. And I don't want anyone to stop doing incredible strength iguana mounts just on account of me being angry that their ass disappears once their head ducks down too far. And if you even ATTEMPT to be self conscious about your glorious stripperisms, Sissy, I am going on the muthawhatm warpath. WARPATH. That means the road straight to your home so I can shake your ass for you.

I too enjoy the dancey side of pole more than the "fitness" side, but i still like seeing "non-pretty" strength moves in a dance. For me, if it's impressive strength wise, i like seeing it done, even if it's not dancey, as long as the performance in general is dance-based. I actually enjoy it the most when the dancer is doing her dance flow, & then just bam, busts out a power move too! Funny how different we all are, huh. 😂

If we all took this thread personally I'm sure some of us would lose half of our repertoire. LOL It's cool to hear everyones outlook on different moves. 👍

I don't like the U turn....it looks odd to me..... 😳
Man...I know you guys like this thread, but it's totally bummed me out. Every single move I've learned recently that I was super proud of is here. Now I feel like the ugliest laziest dancer ever to live. Maybe you guys should rethink the extent to which you are describing some moves as hideous, because it's made me feel like the top 5-10 moves in my bag of tricks are all fug. 😨 It's when I see things like this that make me not want to post vids of my progress....not if everyone's just going to think everything I have worked so hard for and am so proud of is just me slutting around the pole or looking terrible.
and moves like the teddy, apprentice, wrist seat, and tail spin that seem to say, "Hey, look at my crotch!" Thats what my byfriend says he is not a fan of th f**k me moves as he calls them! 🐱 🐱
Whats the U turn? sorry not getting the hang of the quote thing! 🐱 🐱

As some people have said this is just personal opinion and it is just that certain people don't like the certain moves in some contexts (like performances) because they aren't flow-y, dancey, athletics, sultry, whatever. Each person has their own opinion but just because someone doesn't like a move doesn't devalue the worth in achieveing it. All moves are good for something, be it building stength, balance, body awareness, future transitions, etc. So don't worry about posting your progress. We like to see those because that is showing your progress. And who cares if some people don't like the look of a certain move in a performance. I can promise you that for every person that doesn't like a certain move, there is a person who absolutely adores that move. Everyone is different, but that's what makes dance interesting. Pole tricks are kinda like boobs. Some like big ones, some like small ones, some like interestingly shaped ones, some like average ones, but in the end of the day, they're all boobs and they are all good.

Don't feel bad at all poledanceromance!! I love ALL of the pole moves...the u turn is just odd looking to me....I still think its a fab accomplishment, cuz its kind of a scary move....I really do think every move can be pretty in its own way even the spatchcock. LOL

I love them all but I have not see a spatchcock what is it?

Whats the U turn? sorry not getting the hang of the quote thing! 🐱 🐱 That is the one where you do the box splits on the pole and then bring the top leg over and to the front so it ends up looking like you are sitting with your legs in front of you. http://localhosthttp://www.triagedesign.co.uk/wikipole/images/thumb/3/3b/Ubend.jpg/200px-Ubend.jpg
Awwww, PoleDanceRomance, don't be sad. 🙁 The move I started this topic with is a move everyone else in the world seems to love. And one of the moves a lot who've posted don't seem to like (caterpillar) is one that I think is beautiful and hawttttt. It's 100% subjective! Believe you me, I'll still be busting out the caterpillar. If people avoid my videos because of that, then they'll just be missing out on the beautiful whatever else I have in there. 😉 "Pole tricks are kinda like boobs. Some like big ones, some like small ones, some like interestingly shaped ones, some like average ones, but in the end of the day, they're all boobs and they are all good." = freaking INSPIRATIONAL. That should be on a shirt somewhere.
LOVE...LOVE LOVE the caterpillar... 😀 We all like different thing and that's cool...and also I have noticed what I love and dislike changes from month to day to week to hour 🙂 Continue to do what YOU love!

Mmm! PDR, if it doesn't have aesthetic merit, it has athletic merit and vice versa. Even the Side Climb, which seems to be voted most ugly is SO FREAKING USEFUL. Climb.. already with a knee hook. CHYEAH. And even if someone else doesn't think it's the prettiest thing ever, who the hell cares. If you want to wave that superman out, go ahead. Chances are, if you love it, we'll love it just because you do. I seriously doubt any of us are as snobby as we sound outside of this thread. It's like reading a fashion magazine in your pajamas. We're all sitting here cozy, knowing DAMN well that when we watch a pole performance we're not like, "Oh, I am so not impressed", but instead are like, "OMGLOVEYESPOLEGODOITDOIT". Two of the moves I could care less for are Pantera originals, but not only would I have that woman's children, I would treat them like colllectors items.

(we call it a pole snake). i dont care for it when people do like 10 in row real fast b/c then it seems overdone.... i do mine SUPER SLOW like i am sexing the pole and take ages to finish it and time it with the music well. when i do demos for new students that is the move that signs them up for level 1 with a quickness!!!LOL... and i still love the chopper......i saw sheila kelly of s factor do that on an episode 20/20 and i was INSTANTLY sold. i love peeling my legs slowly into it like a flower petal and then slowly descend from the top of the 16 foot pole (which actually is hella hard to hold that long way down) all the way to the floor. many people still love this move. in the end just do what makes you happy!!!

I love all the pole moves... really do! Remember when you were a beginner watching somebody else doing a caterpillar, caterpillar climb or a side climb - perhaps on YouTube - and just thinking "oh my god that it is the craziest thing I've ever seen!!! How is it possible?!?!! I would be the happiest person on this earth if I could do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" ...Well, that was me anyway! 😂 I think when you've been pole dancing yourself for so long you become a bit desensitized to how cool *everything* looks to people who do not pole dance, or another pole dancer who has not achieved that trick yet! Now this is my controversial opinion.. I am not disgusted if somebody does not have pointed toes.. I mean, yes pointed toes do look very polished and pretty, especially for a balletic style of pole dance. However, some of the earliest pole dancing videos on YouTube did not have pole dancers with pointed toes. And I never noticed there was anything wrong with this until I started reading pole dancing forums!! This is probably because I do not have a dance background, sure. But isn't it comforting to know that even the simplest tricks performed with non-pointed toes would impress somebody? I am that somebody!!!! 😀 Dances in support of non-pointed toes at least some of the time: Break dancing, Capoeira, Modern/Contemporary
