when they slide down the pole like it's greased with Crisco and then stop two centimeters short of smashing into the ground? There are a few of those moments in the highlights reel of the 2009 Pole Competition, but I'd love to see more, especially videos featuring and highlighting those drops. Thanks!

It's called a Death Drop of some sort - there are several variations. Jenyne does a Jade Drop, there is a "nosebreaker" where it's a drop from an inverted crucifix, there are a bunch of them. 🙂 Which one are you talking about in particular??? Can you give us a link to a vid with a time marker?

I tend to like the visual appeal of the earlier one to the crunched body positioning of the second. Ya know, I think death LAY was what I had searched for earlier on. Duh, go figure it is called a death DROP! Feeling really stupid here, thanks for helping me out.

Oh don't feel stupid - names are confusing in the pole world. That's why we have Wikipole. 😉 The first one is the drop from the inverted crucifix - nosebreaker - with a shoulder dismount. And honestly, I forgot the name of the second one... It's right on the tip of my tongue... I'll edit this when I remember the name of the stupid thing, lol (see? I told you names were confusing... 😜) edit: sad girl drop! 😀
Ahhh, thank you much. I just love to see those, they are so visually stunning, especially when they place them so perfectly within the music. Thanks also for the heads up on the Wikipole, I will have to peruse my way over to that and see what I can learn.

OMG, love those videos!! The guys are incredible. I thought the skin friction is what stopped you. The kid with the long hair looks like my 8 year old - he's got long hair and wears "wife beaters" like they are going out of style LOL I'll have to show them those videos, they will LOVE them. I had showed them a few of the athletic ones so they could get an idea of why there would be a pole (although it will only be up during the day while I practice, I didn't want it to seem like some hidden, secretive, bad thing). They were in awe. They are going to eat that one up. That drop that Jenyne does has gotta frickin' hurt like hell, but it sure is beautiful. So badass, thanks for sharing those! Wow. I'll be happy if I can just pull of a few spins and inverts!
Hi everyone, my pole teacher has the entertaining habit of showing us new stuff - but not knowing the names. The tricks without names are crowding by now, so she took pictures of me today. Maybe you know how these two are called? My teacher would highly appreciate it :D Thank you!
Top one looks like closed Scorpio (variation)? No idea second one!

We call the 2nd on Genevo.
My instructor calls the second one the Soria hold (because she saw Soria Judd do it and didn't have any other name for it!) but with that one we learn to put our arm around the pole over the top of the leg and reach over to hold the other one.
haa the first one reminds me of #22 on the 30 day yoga challenge =P

Thank you all! :) The first is not a hip hold, you invert, go into outer leg hang and just bring the inner leg to the front - it's only trying to look good, but doesent hold any weight -, then grab your outer foot. It's great for practising hip hold or jade though. Could the second one be martini girl?
