Does everyone use WD40 when they are putting their poles up? My boyfriend was saying that he didn't think that was really the best option, because it isn't a very good lubricant. I will (hopefully) be putting a pole up today and I was just wondering if WD40 was the best thing to use or if any of you used something you thought was better. :)

no no no! Not wd40 it isn't good! Use copper grease. x
I was reading threads related to this, since I was having trouble getting my pole apart (I used WD40 when I put it up the first time). A while back, Charley had recommended Vaseline, so that's what I used this past weekend after I got the pieces apart with strap wrenches. I'm hoping that will keep the pole from getting stuck again. Some members have also mentioned silicone spray. I also recall anti-seize lubricant has been mentioned on the forum (I believe it's an automotive product).

WD40 is what I used to use, but the problem is that it dries out so you have to frequently take the pole down and reapply it. I never had problems with my pole getting stuck (I have an original X-Pole with the threaded joints) but I guess I've been fortunate. Vaseline is your best bet - it's cheap, it doesn't dry out, and it doesn't have that yucky color that most greases have. It is also okay-ed by X-Pole (I'm not sure what kind of pole we're talking about), and I started using it after I made sure that it was safe to put on my pole.
I have a brass Platinum Stages pole, the multi piece super pole. Are there lubricants that can only be used for brass? Otherwise, I have a lot of good ideas now on what to use!
Platinum Stages has the following info on their website, if you want to use exact 'by the book' instructions. 14. How do I clean the threads on my pole? Use a “dry lubricant” (silicone based) on the threading before assembling your pole; do not use an oil-based lubricant. A tooth brush or metal brush works best for cleaning pole threads. Do not wipe the threading with anything that could leave fuzz or debris behind.
I use plain jane vasaline on mine. So far I haven't had any trouble with it.
