Video Format & Uploading

Hoping someone could help me post my video. What file format do I need to upload my video to? I currently use a JVC Everio GZ-555 which only allows .mod files. I have converted it to an mpeg file and am finding this nerve wrecking. I guess I need another camera one that will upload direct with no problems. This JVC wasn't cheap but, its too time consuming trying to upload videos. Please help if you can. Thanks, Hotkiss
