i'd love to take class with amber, karol, alethea, and jenyne... hahha oh my poor wallet. ottersocks, does brooke have a youtube or something where i can see what her dance style is like?
brooknotary.com has some video, nothing on pole, she's a choreographer and aerialist. She was a judge at nationals last year. And I understand that the workshops at Body and Pole will be less expensive than the USPDF ones, but that's all I know (other than that B&P is small and there will be a lot of pole sharing....)
judging by Brooks credentials, shes gonna be a good class to take. I guess I should tell Santa to sign me up for USPDF membership since hes not coming w/the xpole.

interesting about body & pole hosting workshops... lian tal just opened that studio! i wonder what the schedule will be? if they are cheaper i could definitely do more workshops there, i don't think i mind sharing a pole as i'm sure i'll be exhausted from taking so many classes =) maybe i should just suck it up and get the membership, but i'm not planning to ever compete so i'm kind of reluctant to spend $60 just to get advanced notice of workshops.... thanks for all the info ottersocks!
I'm late in the thread, but I figured I'd throw in my opinion about pro-status vs. amateur. I can definitely see the thought that anyone that teaches is a professional, however, I teach and I wouldn't be caught dead trying to compete with many of the women in the "pro-status"! 😂 My guess, is that it has some to do with pro vs. amateur in competition. There are many folks that haven't had competition experience, so maybe "amateur" is a way of gaining experience in that setting with the hopes of eventually obtaining "pro" Not sure but that's my thoughts...
It kinda sucks that they only accept so few people to compete when there are so many talented dancers out there. If its the United States pole dance federation, shouldn't they have a representative from each state?? I dunno i just dont think its fair that out of 50 states 6 people get to go! just a thought... But congrats to the lucky girls that are going!

I wonder exactly how they choose which girls get to compete? I know they have the guidelines on the USPDF site and everything but I still wonder how they choose. 🤔
I am the East Coast Rep for USPDF as of right now. But that only means I help out if members have questions about studios and I was the local coordinator for the competition here in Oct. And I have absolutely no idea how they choose! i'm not given any intel for sure! I'm not sure why they picked so few for the amateur competition, other than they probably have the theatre rented for just the day and only had enough time for 6 amateur performances. I know that's not a great reason but logistics matter in coordinating unfortunately. I guess also we have to keep in mind they are a relatively new organization and everything they do for a while is a learning process. I think as they continue to grow they will offer separate/larger competitions for amateurs. But that's just my guess. It is unfortunate for now, as I know there are many amazing performers who would love to be on the stage.
As for the pro and amateur divisions I think maybe Deshabiller is correct that it has more to do with pro and amateur competitors and not just general pole dance status. I was talking to someone the other day who use to follow the fitness and body building comps and she said that's how they did it...in fact you had to win a certain number at the amateur level before you could qualify for pro. Since Wendy's background includes body building competitions I'm guessing she is modeling it after that ???? They even use the term "pro card" like the USPDF is now doing.
I guess also we have to keep in mind they are a relatively new organization and everything they do for a while is a learning process. I think as they continue to grow they will offer separate/larger competitions for amateurs. But that's just my guess. It is unfortunate for now, as I know there are many amazing performers who would love to be on the stage. Thats my thoughts too. This is only the 3rd competition they have had since the organization started. Its all trial and error at this point. I think once the USPDF competitors expand, so will the # of regional competitions. I think within a few years there will be regionals and a huge final one.

Do you have to have a gymnastics or dance background to be accepted into these competitions? I know you don't have to have one to learn pole dancing but, for competing is it required?

no, but USPDF requires that you be able to do a full split... 😕

I competed in USPDF West and don't have any dance or gymnastics background. In fact, before picking up pole dancing at the age of 28, I was a verifiable couch potato/slob/lazy ass that hadn't been to the gym since accompanying my roommate to an aerobics class my freshman year of college! Now, had I been practicing dance or gymnastics since childhood, would I be a better pole dancer and performer? Hells yeah. But I make do with what I got. And that's kind of what makes this sport so awesome --it's a great sport for non-fitnessy types who never would have exercised had they not discovered pole dancing.

cricket, that's really inspiring! you are obviously hardworking and very talented =) i just bought a workshop with jenyne on thurs! i think i will do alethea on sat and maybe the USPDF champ because it's right after. i'm so excited to do these classes!
Im not sure which one I want to go to. Im curious about Brook's b/c I love coregraphy and judging by her credentials she seems like she rocks!

A few weeks later, I learned that she is a part of NYPD's Climb and Spin program, so I guess she changed her mind and asked Wendy and Anna if she could compete again....very interesting. I guess they wanted to give her a second chance at performing since she fell twice in her routines on stage. I hope she does better next time!

I'm proud to have them as instructors too! Gabrielle and Lauren are my favorites. I knew that Lauren was entering, but Gabrielle and Brynlyn weren't sure when I last spoke to them about it. were they all awarded pro status after the comp in march? i dont remember any announcements being made about that. Brynlyn received her status back in March when she placed in the Top 5. Lauren and Gabrielle got their statuses at the East Coast regionals. Gabrielle texted me when she got hers.
saw something on page 17 about me getting picked, i didn't even submit my yearly $60 membership for the uspdf, but i am going to for sure next year. 🌸

maybe i can go to nyc in march for a weekend or something, it depends on how much i have saved....but i know i wont be able to afford going to the uspdf competition....but if i can, maybe peeps could meet out at a bar or something after for drinks and to meet??? this is all just an idea, i dunno if i can go...but wishful thinking right?
