omg I havent recieved a response yet I'm shaking everythings spinning I feel sick.....omg omg omg I don't know what to do with myself I want this sooo bad I did not get in and did not think I would...only did it b/c last year i told myself i would submit for this... but... I think frankly it was unclassy of them to not notify everyone at the same time. Girls were finding out yesterday and some girls just got emails right now. Polarity had the consideration to tell everyone at once and not make people wait in slow torture. I feel USPDF was really rude in telling people at different times. PowerTwirl, its not that theyre rude. They are 2 girls who have to watch probably a hundred videos, make decisions, run their own studios with multiple locations, teach full time, etc.. The first time i was not picked for uspdf, i was seeing all of the girls who were picked announce they got in.. they dont send the "sorry you did not get in" letter until after the 12 have signed and returned contracts and they make the official announcement. Sometimes a chosen competitor cannot provide valid ID or what-have-you, so they would select someone next on the list of "did not get ins"... so glad you entered! Dont let it stand in the way of entering again! 🥂

Oh yea so I didn't get in and yes I'm upset but I expected it because I apparently suck! This is my 6th competition rejection in the past year and I wanted it so bad because I made up a few tricks that I don't want to show until a competition....I guess I'm not good enough for any competition not just them. I thought my video was good and unique but I guess that's not what they wanted 🙁 I think I give up on compeeting its obviously never going to happen for me....congrats to all the fabulous Veeners that got in though your so lucky and blessed

Congrats Ann!! Congrats to you for entering!!! AND I'm excited to meet you in VA for East Meets West Polarity!!!!! Vakiesha hey skittles, yes i will be meeting you in virginia!!! actually my name is angela..ha...ha (its anngie with 2 "n"s and the "rn" is for registered nurse). I own PoleLaTeaz in Atlanta! Ro is my business partner and we jointly run that location. And we also own the one here in Houston. I am beyond thrilled to see southern polers in competitions this year! Should be having a lot of students coming up so we will have to make a "Georgia section".

And you put yourself out there...and that is an accomplishment in itself. Try not to let it get you down...maybe you can organize a showcase in your local area where you can show off your unique tricks? or maybe work with the studio owner to plan it? Remember..dance is a journey..not a destination...so just enjoy how happy pole dancing makes you feel 😉 Try not to let competing define you.

It literally hurts my heart when I see women so hard on themselves when they're not selected to compete. As a professional dancer all of my life whose dealt with plenty of "rejection"; I know that there's 2 ways to deal with it. 1.) be bitter, angry, disappointed; convincing yourself that you suck and that there's no point in trying in the 1st place and give up on your dreams. 2.) let it inspire you to try harder, train harder, and believe in yourself more. I know for a fact that Karol Helms was "rejected" the 1st time she submitted for USPDF. The following year, she won the East Coast Regionals and took the title of Miss Sexy. And deservedly so. Never give up on yourselves or your dreams. Pole dancing is about creativity, self-expression and celebrating our individuality. Add to that some clean technique, smooth & unique transitions, powerful yet controlled spins and gravity-defying tricks plus musicality & artistry, and you'll be sure to dazzle people at a competition one day. Lastly, remember that LOTS of people are vying for a limited number of spots. You may be amazing, but so are a bunch of other people. What makes you stand out? You have to rely on more than just being able to do the tricks of the month. DON'T GIVE UP!

I better hear you karol! LMAO!!! 🥂 Kira..you are such an inspiration!! 😀
I know I'm not givin up! it's just that my video was unique and different from all the other submissions I saw because I incorporated my ballet/lyrical dance training with my pole work and I have a different style that's why I don't get it. Not saying everyone elses were bad because they deffinitly were all awesome, but the styles were all similar and I though doing something different and unique would get noticed....they offered to critique in my rejetion letter so I asked them for it beause I really don't understand what I did wrong, so I'm waiting for that!

I typically dont ask for feedback mostly in fear of what negitive comments they are gonna give me. But it was nice to have some feedback, they pointed out what they liked and what they didnt like. They thought mine was a freestyle and really didnt suit what they were looking for. Yeah I was bummed but you pick yourself up and get back on the horse and try again! Ive auditioned and tried out for things that are non pole related and I didnt get in or won. Its ok, makes me work harder to be better.

Can you please post your submission video? I'd love to see pole dancing with ballet and lyrical components. Also, sometimes it takes a while for things that are "different" to become accepted. Before Fleur won West Coast last year, almost all the girls wore shoes, and since her victory, I've definitely noticed a lot more girls dancing barefoot. It sounds like it would be very enlightening and an honor to received critique from the judges. I'm sure all your students love your style and so does the studio where you teach. I'm in such admiration of all those who had the courage to set a goal and actually go forth on their journey to reach it. Every single submitter deserves applause!

Raquelle, I truly loved your submission video - you were amazing. I also tried out for EMW and did not get in. At first it stung because I really waited until I thought I was at a level where it would be respectable for me to eventhink about entering. After the sting went away and the feedback was in I felt stronger and more determined than ever. Each competition is looking for something different and I hope that you will continue to post videos and go our for them because you are so talented and your time is coming. I almost didn't submit for East Coast and but my driving force was because I promised you I would. It's okay to feel bad for awhile but please don't let it get you down and get feedback. You have a lot of talent! Karol has been my shining example for everytime I have gotten a rejection. She was rejected one year then won Miss Sexy the next!!!!!! She's also worked really hard and always supported everyone. I am glad she never quit trying and I hope you never do. I won't either.

I wrote out a lengthy somewhat heated response to this but I decided it would be better to delete it and instead ask a question to make sure I'm understanding you correctly. I understand that you're upset for not getting picked but are you saying that all of the other girls have the same dance style? Because if you are that’s not cool at all ? I hate to see such a negative attitude about not getting picked. Tons of amazing dancers get overlooked for gigs all of the time. Like daily. Day after day. Every minute somebody somewhere is being told no. Roxy-Pink is like a sister to me and she was rejected a handful of times over the past few months alone. She was picked for USPDF and I'm beyond happy for her, but if she hadn't...I would have told her to keep her head up and just keep trying. The same thing I told her the other times she got rejected. You can't get down on yourself or even assume that you're not amazing enough for any competition. This time it just wasn’t in the cards for you. But to post about being so upset and not able to understand why some of the other girls got in and not you (because your routine was different and unique) is almost insulting to those that were lucky enough to get chosen. We're all artists and art is subjective. I watched Amber do one of the most beautiful lyrical/ballet/pole routines I’d ever seen at USPDF finals this year and she didn’t even get top 5…and we all know how friggin awesome Amber is. It just wasn’t the time for her (sorry for busting you out Amber LOL). It doesn’t mean you’re not great. It just means you gotta keep trying and be happy for the ladies that did make it. I know I am.

I am with Sissy, dont get me wrong, I think you are a beautiful dancer, Raquellestarr. I have seen some of your videos and they are amazing, but to say all the other styles where similar...I dont know, that's not fair, you are saying you thought you were the only one who was going to stand out? 🤔 there are many polers out there with different backgrounds, ballet, lyrical, gymnastics, figure skating, martial arts.....everyone has their own style, I dont know if you dont see it but I do, If some of those girls that got picked were to wear a wig and a custom and dance in low light, I'd still be able to know who it is just by the way they move. It was not your time, you are still awesome, try again next year, I understand you are upset, but many of the one that were picked this time were upset at one time too for being rejected.

Not saying everyone elses were bad because they deffinitly were all awesome, but the styles were all similar and I though doing something different and unique would get noticed....they offered to critique in my rejetion letter so I asked them for it beause I really don't understand what I did wrong, so I'm waiting for that! performing arts in the competitive realm can sting a little at times but you will grow from it. definitely get their feedback...i asked for feedback..and so did my other instructor who auditioned. some of the best artists known such as madonna, were rejected for things...but look at them now!!! similiar styles...i can see where you are coming from raquellestarr.yes everyone's body moves differently..that is the beauty of pole and exotic dance..but the style of movement is similiar to me as well. for example when i see someone pole dance to hip hop it is a completely different style than dancing to rock. i dance very different to a lyrical song vs. a hip hop song vs. a rock song. that is one of the reasons why i LOVE pole dancing. i definitely did something different and did a more sassy/upbeat/faster song. i also did a more "dancey" style as opposed to a more "aerial" style. a lot of polers in competitions tend to do slow and rock music and aerial style. now granted my favorite style of pole dancing is to alternative, electronica, and rock as well but i purposely did a different type of genre of music to show something different that has not already been represented on the stage. when we do in house showcases or offsite showcases we specifically say to potential performers we are looking for a few r&b performances, couple of rock/alternative, couple of artistic, couple of high energy hip hop, a burlesque type of performance, some pop, etc... we do that on purpose to appeal to more women. not everyone relates to slow pole dancing, fast pole dancing, lyrical music, rock music or hip hop music etc....so if you try to do a little bit of everything the women (and audience) leave with a wider range of how pole dancing can be. i do like the way polarity has two categories: trixpert (emphasis on aerial work and difficulty of tricks) and pole drama (more emphasis on choreography, dance, musicality). i think both styles are great...but they are different. i have seen most of the audition entries for the pole drama finalists and we all demonstrated very different styles: marlo and kyra had a more contemporary pole piece incorporating modern dance, stephanie did a broadway style piece, i did a blend of artistic/lyrical/and sexy, erica did a more emotional, artistic piece.. etc.... i loved watching everyone's b/c the styles were so different. but it also helps me to grow as a dancer....for example i usually have a hard time doing a broadway style pole dance but after seeing stephanies i was inspired and did my level 4 demo for my students with a broadway song and they loved it! i actually enjoyed it way more than i expected. and next week i am going to take some modern dance classes b/c i loved how marlo incorporated this on the pole and off the pole. so i say all that to say shop around with different competitions 📚 that is why there are more competitions popping up and emerging. every organization is looking for something different. what works for one might not work for the other.
I think it's very important to keep in mind that different competitions are going to look for different things. Being turned down doesn't mean you aren't good enough and it certainly doesn't mean you "suck". It means that among the competitors you did not meet THIS criteria as well as the others did. And the fact that you have applied to other competitions doesn't apply because they may all be looking at different criteria or placing greater importance on different criteria. It could be musicality, sensuality, strength, agility, form, sportsmanship, style, grace, etc....and from one comp to another they may consider each of these of different levels of importance! Think about this...you may have been an alternate or you may have JUST missed. Maybe they had a terrible time choosing between your and someone else at the end. Its good that you asked for the feedback because that will be so important to you for future submissions.
Hey it what I said was totally not meant in a derrogatory way toward anyone whasoever. I had heard a LOT of other people say the same thing that day (and worse things I care not mention) about their feelings about the seletion process and just in the heat of the moment kinda agreed with it. I didn't mean it in a bad way at all and I deffinitly didn't see ALL the entry videos either, I just get really worked up sometimes I'm sorry if my opinion made anyone mad it was a suggestion
