Too spinny???

I got my new pole, and I set it up and all. I put it on spin mode, and tried a very, very slow fireman spin. It spun out of control fast. I tried even slower. Still out of control. Then I tried without "starfishing" out - I didn't swing my leg at all. Still the same. Am I doing something wrong? It spins too much if I do a regular climb up -- not spinning at all, I just climb right up. Just the shifting of my weight sets it off. Has anyone else had this happen? No matter what I do, I can't do a slow spin. It seems physically impossible..

This is what everyone seem to experience when first starting out on spinning so stay cool 😎. I remember when this question was up like half a year ago. We suggested to the thread starter that she'd film herself and then, when she watched it, she realized that she actually didn't spin at all as fast as she thought she had done. It may FEEL really fast though as you are perhaps not used to all the spinning forces. It doesn't take too much for them to act strongly on your body. You are doing right not sweeping your leg in the fireman, as that will set off the spin a lot. It may take some time, but you'll learn how to handle it and how to give the pole the amount of momentum that you want. There's a reason why most studios teach new students on static first. It's more difficult on spinning and takes more strength for example. I understand that the climbing feels hard for you. You'll have to learn doing it carefully so that you're not giving the pole an unnecessary push when you mount it. I find that it's easier to control the speed by placing the sole of my left foot (when spinning clockwise) on the pole first, before I grip the pole with both legs, keeping the free leg stretched out and close to the floor. I guess the explanation in words didn't make too much sense 😉 so I will give you a link where you'll be able to see what I mean. I'm not done editing this video yet though, but hopefully tonight! I'll post here then.

What kind of pole is it and is it a pressure mounted pole or permanent? Lina is right about it feeling faster than it is. Spin takes time to learn to control. I figured out why it was doing it!! I video taped myself to make sure it wasn't just my perception, and it wasn't - it really was going a bit crazy. I had used the same pole (xpert chrome 45mm) at my old studio on spin, so I checked it out. I went up into an invert and had a friend hold me to stop the spinning, and let go. I didn't move, but it kinda "swayed" a bit. I looked at it with a level and it was the slightest bit off. I fixed it, and did some spins again. Now it's fast, but a normal fast! :) Thank you guys! Now if I could just stop walking funny after I get off that darned spinny pole cause I'm dizzy... 😀
