Sub Zero Poling!

Ok, so that may be a slight exaggeration, but its freezing! I have my pole down in a room of the house which gets next to no sunlight on it and is pretty much bare apart from my pole! And wooden floors! Im having a nightmare warming the room enough that I feel i'll be able to get a decent pole session in as even with a big warm up, as soon as I dare to bare I get cold and just can't warm the pole up enough to be able to do anything decent! I was wondering would anyone possibly have any tips or tricks to help me out? :) Someone suggested to me a hair dryer to warm the pole up but i'm yet to try it as I feel it will just go cold pretty much straight away? Thanks for any help in advance! :)

I live un the U.K. and find poling really hard in Winter, I seem to spend 30 minutes sliding down my chrome pole, even with the room heated up before hand. I now make sure I'm really warmed up, try to get a bit sweaty dancing, anything cardio seems to help me to stick to the pole and I do lots of spins to warm up the pole as well. If this doesn't work I use shaving gel on my hands, backs of knees, legs etc and this helps me grip more successfully, though I do find if I have to stop for a few minutes I'm all cold again, so I just apply more and off I go again lol.

Ah im only over the pond in Ireland! I do have some mighty grip to help me but again if im just too cold it feels like its making no difference! I will try what you say and just do a super big warm up and even some mid poling if needs be! Bring on the summer! Ha!

I live in northern Canada so I'm poling in the cold weather about 60-70% of the year. If the room is too cold, try getting a sapce heater and put it in the room before hand. Also do like the ladies suggested and do lots of cardio in the room. Your body heat will help wartm up the space and you! I usually climb my pole a few times on each side to help warm the pole up too. :)

There is a radiator in the room, it just takes forever to heat! If i was to try climbing when it was cold i literally just slide straight down! I suppose though if i did it a few times its gotta warm up eventually! Darn the cold! Im much more of a heat lover anyway :)

Even when it's warm and I'm warm my pole is still slippy :( the metal is warmed up but there is no stickiness and even with my trusty grips it just doesn't work after a few moves so I spend most my time applying grip, do a basic move and repeat until I need to wash my hands or clean the pole. Cant practice anything harder than an invert and that really sucks :(

I second the space heater suggestion. A space heater will seriously help regardless of whether the room has a radiator. I use one when I pole in the living room (front room, family room, people use different terms) here in Wisconsin. You can find them for about $20 US on the Internet.

I think i have a space heater hiding around at my parents somewhere i might try dig that out too! Its so disheartening! At class ive no problems doing different invert tricks but cant even hold a crucifix at home! Hopefully the weather getting better too will help us all! :)

Definitely third on the space heater idea! I'm in the Chicago area and we had a pretty cold winter this year. My pole is in the basement, which is unfinished and has one tiny little vent for heat. I usually let the heater run about half an hour before I'm ready to go down and practice. It helps, but it's still chilly and a lot of times I find myself avoiding poling because of the cold. It sucks and I cannot stress how much I'm looking forward to summer.
