star stand alone 2.0 or 1.75?

I am planning to buy a free standing pole and I decided to go with platinum stages "the star stand alone pole". Am I making the right choice? I cant afford the xstage. Will this pole be sturdy enough even if the diameter is 1.75inch with 2 feet extensions? Is it sturdy at all or does it slipin slide one the floor. Does anyone else have this pole? I would like to know more about this product so that I dont have any regrets later. 😕

I have the star stand alone 1.75. I can get the base of this pole to move. Because the platform is low profile you get much more movement out of it then you would with stage that is higher up. If you are new to pole you may not like the movement. Like all PS products it's super simple to change from spin to static with the pull of a pin and it's stainless steel. Set up is fairly easy - doesn't take long. I have done photo shoots with this pole and love it for things like that. How tall are your ceilings? If they are vaulted PS sells an adapter for that.

ok so the pole does slide a little. it should be fine on the grass outside where i intend to keep it. i just wanted someone to confirm this so it wouldn't be a surprise.

should be totally fine on grass. Just make sure the ground is very level.

i heard they had the new ones at rock the pole in CA recently and everyone was complaining about how much the poles moved and that they were coming unscrewed when you spun lefty....

they were coming unscrewed when you spun lefty.... I have heard this too, and since I'm left-dominant, that's a deal breaker for me. I was told they were working on resolving that issue, but I heard this back in March.

I suggest checking with PS to verify, but I don't think they make the Star 1.75 extension. I think you can only get the extension for the 2.0 I just got the Brass 2.0 with extension, and LOVE it! It wobbles a bit, but no more than the 18ft mounted poles we have in the studio. I don't think it would affect anyone new to poling, cuz they wouldn't know any better. If you are intermediate, you may have difficulty until you build the added strength to counter-balance the wobble. As to the "unscrewing" to the left spins... really not that big of a deal. It does unscrew a little, but not enough to "fall" or cause you to lose balance. If the "bolt" part of the connection were made a little deeper (longer thread/screw) I think that this wouldn't even be an issue

I spin both left and right and my poles are pretty stuck together so it hasn't been a huge issue. They do have extensions for the skinny I have both the 1ft and the 2ft for mine. I am wondering the if the 2.0 has less movement than the 1.75???

I think it's safe to assume so. I know that our 34mm (custom, no brand) poles have way more wobble than I have seen on any video featuring the star stand alone. Some people even call it swaying instead of wobbling. (Or are we talking wobbling of the stage rather than the pole itself, 'cause in that case just forget what I said 😀 ) And it is true that the wobble doesn't really affect you if you learned on a 'wobbly' pole from the get go. I never even really notice it, but it always scares ppl watching my vids. 😂

I would add that for me the lefty unscrewing could be a deal breaker. I would at least look into that!

danced on both in one day and I far prefer the Xstage to the PS. The X is far more stable and far less movement in the pole itself. just my 2 cents and its most likely only worth 1 lol.

I have both the X Stage and the Star stand alone. I LOVE THEM BOTH for different reasons. X STAGE is more steady but it is also almost double the price for us canadians when taxes, duties and brokerage fees in total. But it only comes in chrome and only 10 feet poling space. I love the star stand alone because the pole material is interchangeable. I have 1.75 stainless steel and 2 inch brass both with 2 feet extentions to give 8-12 feet poling space. I love that the dance floor is large but low to the ground so I can roll into the floorwork easily.The star stand alone platform base did move alot but I solved that problem by adding a thin industrial strength velcro between the base and dance platform. Now it doesn't move or make any noise when you dance on it. Also the pole wobbles a bit but not noticable by me when I do my advance move on it. But to make the whole base extra secure for anyone poling on it weighing more than 250 lbs, I added weight bars of 10 lbs each times 8 inside the legs. You can purchase steel rods at home depot for nominal fee and have them cut it for a dollar each cut to the length of the legs. Hope that helps. 🫡

Just got my 1.75 star stand alone 2 days ago! It does wobble, but I feel secure on it. It's very easy to set-up and take down ~ Tightening the "collar" takes the longest. It does come unscrewed a little when spinning lefty. Overall I think it's a "good" portable pole.

It does come unscrewed a little when spinning lefty. Overall I think it's a "good" portable pole. Flexx10, I do not use the collar at all. I find it very time consuming and ugly looking. Its only fuction is to prevent the platform base from lifting if you step on it from the edges. But the platform will still move slightly from side to side and make a slight noise. But if you apply a strip of industrial strength velcro you wont need the collar and it prevents the base from moving and lifting. 🥂

Thanks joni1 ~ I will give the velcro a try! We are taking our pole on the road this weekend for a demo ~ It will be a big time saver by not having to mess with that collar! 😀

X-pole has low profile stages coming out and I will be interested to see how they far against the star. I think having a low base will always lead to tons of movement. I sort of regret buying mine only because I don'thave a real need for a stage pole - I am afraid it's going to be used more by the studio than me and I already have one of my poles up at the studio. Which would be fine if I owned the sutdio but I don't. I would have been better off buying super poles but we did use it for a kick A$$ photo shoot and maybe more to come.

Set my Star Stand Alone (1.75) up this morning without the round rubber pad that's supposed to go under the base, and without the collar ~ What an improvement!!! I just cut one of my old yoga mats in half to use under the base, as I have wood floors, and that worked beautifully! The pole barely moved and there was very little movement or noise from the base. If you are not going to use the collar, just don't step too close to the edges ~ However, I didn't have any issues. I'm liking my Star Stand Alone MUCH better now 🥂

The industrial strenth velcro will prevent the platform from lifting and moving. I had over 200 lb men on my star stage with no problem. The only function of the collar according to my handy husband is to keep the platform from lifting if you step on the edges. With the velcro, I really have to pry it hard to separate and disassemble the platform. But get good quality industrial strength velcro not dollar store stuff and let the sticky back cure for 24 hrs meaning do not pull the base from the platform to disassemble for 24 hours.

Are you using it in spin mode only then? I liked mine better without the pad too! Much more stable. I use it in both spin and static modes with no problems and without the pad and collar. I'm going to take the advise of joni1 and get some industrial strength velcro for extra reinforcement!
