Split grip 'lunchbox' not from twisted grip?

Hello everyone :) I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if the split grip lunchbox (will put a link below) can be done from a non twisted split grip? I have only seen Felix do it & she does it from a twisted grip which is something I dont quite have the hang of yet. Hey there! I couldn't get the link to work, but I'm fairly sure I know the move. It's so cool! I'm too tired to actually try it now (my attemps are sketchy at the best of times) but I tried with my feet on the ground and it seemed like it was too much pressure on my top wrist when I tried to turn my back to the pole :( I would be very happy to be corrected though! If it helps, I've found it much easier to get into it from a CAR and a Bow and Arrow. As for the twisted grip to split grip version, I find it helps me to think of it like going into a brass monkey. I usually even hook my knee onto the pole for balance while I transition. (Balance seems to be a big deal!) I hope that helps, and I really hope I'm wrong about the split grip because I always like more options.

with a split grip i don't think it's possible to have one leg on either side of the pole because of the twisting you need to have in the top wrist-- karol helms does this quite a lot, but goes from a split grip ayesha and puts her legs behind her with her chest still facing the pole.

i tried it and think it´s possible, but it´s very hard (much harder than in the tg) to get into the position and to hold it. i´ll try to make a video and post it!

Hi guys, thank you so much for your replies. I had tried this earlier in normal sg but mine was kinda wrong & I was too chicken to take it all the way round, lol. Awesome to know it can be done, it looks great in the vid above (sorry I'm on my phone so cant see the name). I am a fair bit overweight & not very strong though so I will persevere with twisted grip as well as the consensus seems to be that is easier :)

hm, but emotioncatcher-- you see how your side stays adjacent to hte pole, instead of turning your torso so that your back is to the pole? you're essentially in a brass monkey, because that top hand isn't turning... in order to get your back to the pole, you'd have to twist your top hand grip around... that's the part that i see as being pretty near impossible, unless you quickly shift it while pushing off the bottom hand.

yes, you´re right amy, it´s not exactly the same, but i think it looks quite similiar and is a good alternative for those who have problems with the tg. and i think you can bend your back a lot more than in the brass monkey on the ground i can twist my back to the pole in a normal split grip, but on the pole it´s much too advanced to do it the same ...

i was standing on the ground holding my pole in the split grip and tried to get into the position with one foot still on the ground and could twist my body around so that my back faced the pole more like when i do it on the aysha. hope this makes more sense ^^ my english is not the best =D

Wow, that pole that Felix is on is so skinny, it's almost like she's cheating. 😉 Me and my tiny hands could do so much more on a pole that skinny. I came across this video a while ago and it blew my mind. Around 1:20 she goes from a CAR into a twisted grip lunchbox, then turns herself around into a twisted grip aysha. @melanieDA: i totally understand you i think i have small hands, too and have a 50mm pole.... for the trick in the video i would first practice to get from a tg handspring into the rubber position and back into the normal tg. maybe you can also first practice to go from the car directly into a tg (you can keep you ankle on the pole until you hips are facing the pole) then i would try the complete move. you should grip close to your bottom with your upper arm (same as if you would do a iguana) the lower arm grips quite low (fingers pointing down of course), you still may have to lower it a bit while opening your legs. next step would be to open and bend the legs (feet to your head) to get into the rubber position. then straighten your legs to turn your body around like you practiced before seperatly.

I have a 45mm pole and even that is still too big (but the poles at the gym and the club are 50mm, so I've had to adapt anyway). There are certain tricks that I've come to the conclusion I literally cannot do because my hands are too small. Such as the split grip aysha. I have the strength, I have the technique, but I can't do it without a ton of grip aid because my hand will not wrap far enough around the pole to get a stable grip. 😕 And thank you for breaking down that move! I only just became able to turn myself from a twisted grip aysha into a rubber pencil, and it's still pretty shaky. I'm still working on getting into a stable twisted grip from a CAR. :-P

luckily i had never problems that i couldn´t do a trick on my 50mm pole, but it´s just so much harder. when i onced poled on a 45mm everything seems so easy suddenly ^^ it was at a studio in my town. i only was there one time, but did my first iron x there (maybe because of the thin poles^^) great you already managed one part of the trick!
