Spinning or static?

Hello there! This is my first post 🙂 Hello! First can I just say what a lovely and amazing community it is here! I'm so glad I decided to check out this website 🙂 It rocks!! Ok, so just a quick question, do you guys prefer to use the spinning or static poles? I've checked out the vids and it always seems to be a mixture of the two, how does that work? Spinning is cool for holding things and spinning, but the statis is better so you dont go a mile a minute when you go inverted right? and i havent seen anyone mention it yet, but do any of you get dizzy? I seem to get dizzy doing this a lot! Thanks for your help in advance 🙂 xxxxx

I mainly stay on static. I do like a bit of spinny but I haven't mastered the art of staying on for long without falling over and demanding a bucket once I come off 😂 Dizziness is perfectly normal with spinny (a friend of mine has to take travel sickness tablets before going on spinny). Apparently it's something you get used to and can stay on for longer without getting as dizzy.

I posted this exact same question under Dance Poles when I first came to this site before I got my spinning pole. Now I can answer it, too! I have to say static by far. It's too easy to get going to fast when you're spinning. You work so hard to be able to get a lot of momentum on static then you have to learn the opposite when you go to spinning. I've only done one video on spinning and it took a lot of control. I also get dizzy really easily... I can see why people like it, though. I just personally don't.

I personally like both and practice on both. I find that spinning is actually a lot harder than static as there are different forces at work on you. However, when learning new moves I definitly do it on static. Spinning does take some getting used to and learning to control the rate at which you spin is a little difficult. I found if I look at my pole while spinning I get dizzy like mad! It definitly is about control! Of course there are spins/moves that can only be done on one mode and not the other so I start my practice on static and then eventually switch to spin. It really is a personal preference! 😀

I love the way spinny looks, BUT I get sick 🤮 so I don't do it often. I'm working on it though....both spinning and static require a different technique. If you treat your spinning pole like a static and throw your body weight into it you'll fling yourself right out the window!!!! 😂 Trust me 😉 One is not better than the other. I love the challenge of controlling your static spin, learning how to make them super fast!! I plan on doing more work in spin mode, but I'm in no rush. 🌸

oh i hope that jungle posts under this thread! i think he does mostly spinny mode! i know for me i get too sick and dizzy while on spin mode 🤮 🤮 - i feel completely out of control, so i stick to static all the time. i admire anyone who can do spinny though since its such a different type of technique that takes a strong stomach 🙂

I think you just get used to it, although I don't think the pole I use is as fast as normal ones because It's so old. Every once and a while they readjust the screws and oil it, and I nearly go flying! I think learning on spinny is a lot easier than than learning on static and trying to swap to spin mode, because you just slowly get better and slowly start going faster, so it's not a sudden thing. I love going fast!I only ever get dizzy when I twirl in little circles (kind of like pirouttes) around the outside of the pole. Maybe it's because I'm dancing in a huge room instead of in a small one - I think if the walls were closer it would be worse.

I prefer a spinny pole! Though now that I'm doing more inverts I'm liking static a little more - each is good for certain things.

Like Veena said, static and spinny require different technique. I think it's best to start out on static and then move to spinny so you learn to use your momentum to its fullest before taking it back a notch (or five) for spinny. Also, I find you can really strain your fingers and forearm muscles on spin if you haven't built up the strength so there's another reason to start with static. I like them both but tend to do more static work because we don't have spinny poles at the studi and I don't have much room at home. Fleur

lol neke i love you!!! i took the screws out of my xpole to put it on spin mode the day i got it and have never put them back in. when i learn new moves ive finally figured out how to use my weight to keep the pole (mostly) stationary because i do prefer learning things stationary and then spinning them. i originally learned on a homemade pole which was static and then i got my xpole and started doing spinny stuff. overall i prefer spin mode, i think it looks prettier when i dance because i am really short so when i do spins i only go around once, maybe twice if im lucky, before my feet hit the ground again. on spinny i dont have this problem and doing various spin combinations have helped me get stronger. i think both have their advantages...personally i think spin is harder, but ive seen amazing dancers that usually only use static like veena and i dont feel like im missing anything out of their performance from them being on static. the beauty of xpole is that you can do both and decide which you like best!

Thanks so much guys for your awesome response! 😀 You all make a good point! Poling is a bout fun and what you get out of it right? So which ever one you enjoy the most is best 🙂 I might give static a go and see which one is more me 🙂 xxxx
