Spin Combinations

I've been trying to pay attention to spins lately. I don't tend to do them often because I've never really been great at them, but I'd really like to start working on them some more. I'm especially lacking when it comes to combining them... That said... What are everyone's favorite spin combinations? I'm primarily thinking static spins, but spin pole ones are nice too! And any level, from beginner to super advanced! My favorite advanced spin combo right now is the Oona Spin (reverse grab with the big straddle kick, to chair, to V invert, to butterfly) and my favorite beginner combo is the leg swoop (really don't know if it has a name, lol) to the back hook, and the chair to reverse chair.

I'm really interested in this thread too. I only have a static pole and want to start 'livening' up my spins as I feel like i'm just doing the same ones over and over. Defo want to master the oona spin, however I don't have the strength to get into the V invert and after already almost breaking my foot on my piano, don't have the space to really practise it either. One day I will have my own pole room!

One I like is Charley's flying fireman to cross knee release. She has a video on yt but I cannot access it at work. If you get it right you will spin the release. I will do this from a fan kick also. I have always loved reverse grab to pretzel the way that Sarah Cretul does it. And a beginner that can look beautiful is a step aroud to back hook. Usually I will do a front step around to back step around (see Karol) to front step around to back hook.

My favorite low level spin combo is a step around/half spin to a pirouette, to a fireman, to a back hook in one smooth motion. When you come out of the pirouette from the half spin your hand and legs are right where you need to be to start the fireman so it's like one long combo visually. Another one like that is a half spin to a chair prance to a windup. As a beginner thing I also honestl love the visual effect of a really slick double stop to a back bend, where you get multiple rotations on your pirouette so it's like spinspinDROP into the dip. So cool and classic. My favorite advanced spin combo LATELY is the extended windup around to a corkscrew/body spiral but all with planked legs as Michelle Mynx teaches it.

Well I call it a windup, haha. It's the spin where you have both hands on the pole over your head, lean your body and back leg out and sweep that back leg in catching the pole with your inside leg. It's that super fast spin Nadia Zarif does all the time.

For the windup to corkscrew you don't catch it with your leg though, you have that overhead kind of grip but your legs fly out and you pull around to the body spiral.

@poledanceromance: Got to watch more of Nadia, she's good! Personally I for example like a one armed boomerang (think Veena calls it Carousel-V) into a baseball grip reverse attitude but with the leading (outer) leg straight. Very good momentum recommended for best result! I also like a fireman and then threading the unhooked leg into a front hook.

Here's a couple of my favorites: Carousel --> Back Hook Forward Attitude (inside leg leads, nothing is hooked on the pole) --> Reverse Attitude Reverse Grab --> Reverse Attitude

I love any regular grip spin transitioned to reverse grabs and vice versa. :)

I love this topic but I am a very visual person--blame it on my ADD, baby. :-/ no really, i am an artist so I have so much trouble imagining some of these spins that involve more than 3 movements. I am also 5' 2.5"... How do you get such momentum to make it possible to do the oona spin?? Is it on spinning pole? I would LOVE to see this in action. I think I know the windup spin... Both hands stretched high over head and leaning and streching outside leg way out to fly into that one. I love it! Such great suggestions!! Does anyone have links or clips they could post? A spin combo video run, haha.

Jelli -- I have a recent vid of me doing the oona spin on static! I'm also 5'2.5" and it isn't a problem. Any time you change your body direction in a spin you get added momentum and if you watch the oona, you're pretty much switching your body around the entire time. It's totally my favorite spin ever right now lol just because it's so fast and spinny and dynamic. I tried one I really liked today -- open V spin (with the baseball grip, not bracket) into what we call an inside leg hook (inside leg hooked, outside leg out straight) to a flirty fireman (inside leg out straight, outside leg hooked). Oh my! I would not even know where to begin to learn some of this stuff... It is amazing and seemingly so far-fetched. Then again, so did many other things that I learned, haha. Can you do stuff like this Kyrelle?

Yes, Cherished! I do love this spin, too! My rockstar spin is just passable. I look so stiff in it but it has gotten better. What a great way to invert right into a butterfly!!!

Heeeeck no! The oona spin is probably the craziest spin I can do lol... I really like how she went into a true grip handspring from a spin though, I would love to try that because I love true grip, but I think I'd have to handspring on my bad side... That rockstar to butterfly looks AWESOME... need to try that one too! I wonder if I could do it... my rockstar kind of sucks lol

I think the rockstar looks easier than it really is!! I have wanted this spin for a while and tried it off and on. Even though I can do the motion, it doesn't look rockstar-like. I look so stiff and can't seem to make it flow, haha.

I confess I almost never spin on static pole, so I don't have much to add there, but I do love the spinning pole. All of the following are on spinning pole. For easier transitions I like: front hook --> back hook (can add --> inversion) carousel --> reverse grip attitude --> quick twirl up to standing For something harder I like: shouldermount --> brass monkey --> eros V inversion --> gemini --> jade. V inversion --> gemini --> scorpio --> falling star (scorpio to scorpio) --> allegra Cradle --> jamilla --> extended butterfly Lately I'm working on: V inversion --> gemini --> jade --> cradle --> no hands windmill (does anyone know how to get out of a no hands windmill gracefully? I'm thinking maybe: hands back on --> superman, but then what?) Finally, combos I'd love to do but can't yet: V inversion --> jade --> cradle --> chopsticks Phoenix (reverse grip --> TG handspring)

@elektra Not sure what a standard windmill is, let alone without hands, but as a personal taste, I like getting out of superman by doing what I think is referred to as a "dove drop". And from leg hold (as I'm not sure if you go into gemini or scorpio in a dove drop) I would shoulder dismount, as that's quite a long combo :p

@CapFeb - A windmill is like a cradle spin, but with your legs extended in a straddle instead of tucked. No hands means that rather than holding onto the pole, you transfer your hands to your legs. The problem I'm having is transferring my hands back onto the pole, or finding any other way out of the position. I was thinking that if I could get my hands back on the pole, I could basically do a cradle to superman, but that's not a strong move for me, so I'm still looking for some other solution. As for how long the sequence is, the only trouble I have is that I run out of pole.

@Jellicrew, the rockstar for me is also not so easy as it looks. I still need both hands to do it. Right now I call mine the-independant-label-star-waiting-to-be-signed-spin @Kyrelle same for my rockstar! but with the oona split under your belt you are well on your way.
