Smokey eye tutorial here finally!

OK I finally was able to get this dang thing posted, we switched internet providers on Monday and my family declined to share that with me until the day of so I couldn't upload it on Monday like I promised, and then I was having a ton of trouble uploading it from my laptop but I finally got it figured out. I am really self conscious of how I talk and all the ridiculous expressions I keep making, I feel like I look ridiculous but hopefully you can just focus on the makeup part...let me know if you have any questions! Thanks Audball! Yes I think it looks much more natural than pencil on me... Veruca I would choose colors that are slightly darker than what I used to tweak it to your skin tone, or you could even do one light color and one dark one instead of a medium color and a dark one. Shimmery eye shadows tend to look good on darker skin tones as well but if you have any lines/wrinkles it could draw attention to them, not sure how old you are 🙂

Thanks Glitter! I played with it after watching the tutorial and it seemed to look much better than my previous attempts. Took me a LONG time but hopefully I'll get faster with practice! The blending was an important point for me...I don't think I blend enough!!! That made it look so much nicer. SO...now that I had to scrub all this off - and I do use eye make up remover - my eyes are a bit sore. What sort of eye make up remover do you recommend???

My favorite is the Urban Decay one but it's expensive...however they have a 25% off friends and family until the 12th of this month so let me know if you want the code. The Sephora brand makeup remover works well for a mid priced product and my favorite drugstore remover would be L'Oreal, a lot of their products are comparable to higher end makeup. Yes blending is suuuuuuuuuuuuper important, it takes an okay eye makeup to a great one IMO.

That's great! I saw your page and shimmery shadows always look really nice on African American ladies, maybe you could do some lighter bronze shades with a dark brown or black for the smokey effect?

yeah and I am a sun baby and I smoke...my grandmother is 94 and only has a few, my mom is 66 and has none yet 😀 ...being black helps LOL

Yeah the darker your skin is, the less wrinkles you get...I'm half hispanic and my hispanic grandma is 70 and has amazing skin....so I hope I get the hispanic aging genes instead! I certainly got the butt and thighs!

Sunscreen sunscreen sunscreen!!!!!!!!! Even on cloudy days, even in the winter! Most foundations have an SPF but you should also put SPF on your neck and chest area, most women forget to put sunscreen there so those are the first spots that start to wrinkle.

SO...now that I had to scrub all this off - and I do use eye make up remover - my eyes are a bit sore. What sort of eye make up remover do you recommend??? Coconut oil!!! It is all I use to remove eye makeup any more and a little bit goes a long way. You can even use it as a moisturizer.

Oh also I forgot to say that I usually saturate a cotton ball/washcloth and hold it over my eyes for 20-30 seconds and it loosens almost everything up so it wipes right off, that way you don't have to scrub and irritate your eyes. I try not to handle the area around my eyes more than I have to because it's super thin and wrinkles very easily. I haven't tried coconut oil but I will have to give it a shot.

Since coconut oil is a solid below 70 degrees I use a small spatula to get a little out and then warm it between my ring fingers before applying to my eyes.

i have super, super straight eyelashes and my friend recently turned me on to this crazy mascara from japan. it's the ONLY mascara i've ever tried that keeps the curl in my lashes all day. literally, the only one. and it has filaments in it that make my eyelashes look 2x as long lol. but because this mascara is so diesel and ridiculous with its staying power, i went through 6 different eye makeup removers that would take it off. the mascara is called "extra large" http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IZSU6I/ref=wms_ohs_product and the eye makeup remover is dior's instant eye makeup remover. takes regular waterproof eye makeup remover off without any "hold and wait" time. takes the crazy mascara off with only 5-6 seconds of "hold and wait". http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P269301 i will have to try the coconut oil but i'm not so big on putting oily stuff on my face since i have such oily combination skin...

You did a great job on the video!! I think everyone is self-conscious about how they look or sound when they see and hear themselves, I know I am! You did great though! 🫡 I have a few questions; the first is about primer. I don't use primer, I put on my "mask" of foundation and powder before I apply eye make-up, which does lead to some creasing issues. So, if I use primer, can I use that in conjunction with my foundation and powder "mask"? If so, primer first, and then foundation and then powder or is there a different order or does it have to be one or the other? Also, I get all my make-up at the drug store, so do you have a recommendation for a good primer that I would find at the drug store? Second question, is gel eyeliner similar to liquid? I use liquid because pencil doesn't work well with my "mask", pencil tends to smear, run and get messy (since it sits on top of foundation), where the liquid stays put. I'm wondering if gel would work similarly? Is it more like a pencil or a liquid? Thanks!! 😜

Hi MommaBear! Thank you for the compliments, you are very sweet! Yes I would definitely recommend using an eyeshadow primer, and when you use the primer you should be able to forego the foundation and powder because that can sometimes actually make creasing worse. L'Oreal makes a great eyeshadow primer for around $7, it's called L'Oreal de-crease, although I have noticed not all drugstores carry it but the places that have bigger makeup selections like Rite-Aid etc tend to have it. The gel eyeliner is closer to a liquid but easier to control than liquid IMO...if you want to play around with it I think L'Oreal just came out with a gel liner as part of their HIP line. The only drawback to a gel is that you need to buy a brush to apply it but I think brushes are a great investment and a necessary tool for a professional looking makeup application so I would say it's worth it for sure. Hope some of this info helps!

Well..........I must say..... That was a freakin awesome tutorial Glittercupcake lady!!! Seriously........I have watched a ton of them and you do not need to feel self conscious about ANYTHING!!!! You were clear, simple and articulate. Plus....you weren't specifically marketing/promoting any one particular line. That alone makes it fabulous as there are some who can not afford(or can't justify spending that kind of mula) to buy specifically color # by so and so big wig, high end make up company of the stars.
