skin tearing off...

Ok so today I was playing around on my pole. I wiped it down and went to do a move that I had just done like 10 times, when all of a sudden my hand hurt like hell!! When I looked at it, the pole had made my skin come off!!! It didn't come off all the way. So now I have this inch long/wide flap of skin that I cant rip off... Has this happened to anyone else??? 😢 😳 What would make this happen? Does the heat have anything to do with it?? 🤔

I don't think i can be much help as this has never happened to me, but i would think that could happen from a really grippy pole & gripping it too tightly while spinning? what move were you doing? I'd say use neosporin for it heal faster... hope it gets better soon! 🥂

Thanks guys! I have an x pole. I just read the article about the tempermental pole. Maybe it was just from the heat? It was like 78f today, but not really humid... I also got major pole burn today, where as normally I don't. Idk I put neosporin on it and my fiance put a tegaderm on it, but it fell off. 🙄 As for the move, i don't know what it is called but I am working on posting a vid that has me doing it.

owch!! im sorry that happened, i have lost some skin on my wrist from gripping too tight on moves like the back hook spin and such... and tonight i was at a party where there was a pole but it was a different material than im used to and im pretty sure i will have a very bad rash on my legs and butt tomorrow morning haha! oops! but i hope your injury heals quickly!!

I live in the SE, and I have definitely been sticking more than usual this weekend! I've torn my wrists before on humid days - I have found that wearing little tennis wristbands will act as a buffer and protect them. I know that hurts - let it heal up and you'll be back to practicing in no time! 🙂

OUCH! I've had this happen to me before, usually when i'd overdone it on the spinning, the pole's got hot and its rubbed the skin a bit too much. It used to happen quite a lot when i first started but now i've got a rather attractive callus where the skins hardened up and i only really get it when i've had a brake from poling and the skins gone soft again. Gloves would probably help if you feel it happening again... x

I posted about the same thing a week or so ago. I guess I didn't manage to draw as much attention as your post: https://www.studioveena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1501 In any event, I'm also an avid rock climber and we call these "flappers" b/c of the flap of skin that results. You tend to get them (in poling) when you develop a hot spot (pre-blister). B/c of the pulling force on the skin, rather than forming a blister, your skin just "lets go". You'll be fine in a week. A few days of neosporin and band-aids will help. Then the flap of skin will die and you can either carefully tear it off or snip it off w/ nail clippers. If you just can't help yourself and MUST get on the pole before your skin heals, apply some athletic tape over your band-aid. You'll just need to windex your pole more frequently b/c the tape will gradually leave behind some sitcky residue.

It's nice to know that I am not the only one who has had this happen to them. Although it sucks at the same time. My hand is so much better now as compared to 2 days ago!! 😀 😀 😀 I am just patiently waiting for it to be 100% better so I can hop back on the pole!!! I think I am going to take VixxPlum's advice about the gloves, like the ones that go on your arm and you only put your thumb in.... idk what they're called 🤔 but I will check it out tomorrow!! sounds like a burst blister to me. Blister will have come from friction, just like new shoes, and then a spin has ripped the skin off the top. Keep it clean and covered to prevent bacterial infections. Once it's dried out, then it should all be fine.
