For those thinking of doing laser, the darker your hair is the better it will work, I had it before in a different place and it didn't make a difference as my hair is too light. Just thought I'd let you know as its not cheap! Im thinking of getting an epilator - are they good? I take it they're only for use on legs though?
Thanks for posting this!!! Im going to have to try it! I use sugaring rather than waxing - my genetics makes shaving a really bad idea. Sugaring paste readymade is quite expensive for what it is. I use this guide to making it http://www.beauty-fitness-savvy.com/sugaring-hair-removal.html It works and is really easy to correct. If it isn't sticky enough cook it some more. If it's too hard then add some water.

Yes I was told dark hair and white skin has the best results. Laser energy is absorbed by the darker tissue around the hair root, so if your skin is dark then it'll absorb the radiation rather than just the hair root. Similarly, if you have blonde hair it won't absorb so well and again, no result.
I'm one of those "sensitive" people who bruise easily, with sensitive skin to boot. I've done the Neet/Nair thing with superficial burning...I've tried the shaving with a razor but I get severe razor burn and rash. I was going to the spa regularly for brazilian waxing and I would bruise and even bleed at the beginning but it was my preferred method of choice. But I have moved on to the laser myself. My 5th appointment is a week away and I'm so glad I made the investment, let me tell you! 🥂

Without it, it sorta works but not near as well, so don't skip it. So many people do when they try to make it cause they figure it won't make that big of differences, but it does.
For all the girls getting Brazilians for the first time...I HIGHLY recommend No Scream Cream. It helps if you use it as directed (i.e., 30 to 45 minutes before the kitty hair goes bye bye) although nothing completely kills the discomfort. Also, do not go the week before your cycle...it's more painful. 😲
Excuse me for jumping on this thread....as a guy this isn't really an issue for me. But I would like to warn you of the experience of a friend of mine. Although she doesn't pole or wear bikinis or similar attire that "requires" attention, she does like to be "tidy" down there. She dutifully applied Nair and set her alarm clock for the required time and sat on a towel to watch her favourite soap opera while it did it's work. Unfortunately it was a dramatic story line and she became so absorbed in it that she forgot about the job in hand. When the credits rolled at the end of the programme she jumped in the shower to rinse the hair away.....along with a couple of layers of skin! She ended up having to go to Accident & Emergency for treatment and spent a week wearing loose skirts with no underwear and applying regular medication and ice packs to the affected area. She has now opted for using a razor. So when it specifys a time on the product....beware....they put it there for a reason. As she put it herself.....her, "Noo-Noo became a No-No".
I plan on getting laser hair removal on my 'nether region', legs and armpits. But for now on my 'nethers' (lol) I use an electric razor on the front part and I use a razor with the grain on the labia. I use the schick quattro for women and it has small wires that make it practically impossible to nick yourself.
I wax religiously and could never see myself going back to the pain of shaving (ugh! the ingrowns!) now that I've made the switch. I can say that I have recently started using Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser for shaving legs and underarms instead of shaving cream/gel though at the suggestion of my sister. I used to get ingrowns there and NO MORE! It gives a really smooth nice shave, so maybe that might be helpful for those still shaving kitty?
So is laser painful? There are regularly groupons for laser - 6 sessions for $99, I know you have to do your research on the clinic providing the service. But in 6 sessions would I be kitty hair free? I am a shaver right now - too scared to wax or sugar and honestly there is nothing more disgusting to me than my own kitty so shaving seems like it takes the least amount of time. So, laser and no worries? *I'm extremely white and very dark haired.

I wouldn't go back to shaving or waxing for any amount of money. I have had 3 laser treatments so far, and going for my 4th this Tuesday. When I shave my hair between treatments right now, it takes forever to grow back...and already it's growing back less and less every treatment. I'm told I might need 6-10 treatments to get rid of my hair fully, but any treatment after my 6th one is 50% off. Also, because of skin tone being darker generally on the labia, not to mention it being a more tender area, a good laser technician will turn down the intensity level of the laser for that area, so it may take a few extra treatments. As far as pain goes, they cover you in a very cold (shockingly so) gel before they laser you, and I find that worse than the laser pulse itself. However, by comparison, it feels like someone flicking your skin...more of a minor irritation than pain. Sarah
Ditto what Sarah said! The coldness of the gel surprised me, the laser wasn't painful but it causes warmth depending on the density of the hair being lasered. So most of it was just warm with little pulses, the hottest area for me was around the labia, I don't know whether that's just me or if others find that. The lady said she'd turn it down if it got too hot for me, but the warmer you can tolerate the fewer sessions you'll need, so I visualised a nice hot bath and it was tolerable. The difference I noticed after even the first session was just so amazing, I am really looking forward to never having to shave again, no more stubble, and no more ingrowns from waxing!! But yeah the gel. Cold and gooey. Imagine being slathered in KY. I don't know if your salons are better equipped but mine doesn't have showers or anything so we just get given a bunch of tissues to wipe up as best we can (after she's removed the excess), I didn't know that before I started but now I dress in stuff that doesn't matter and wash and change as soon as I'm home!
my laser expereince included no gel- the laser shot a puff of super cold air right after the laser pulse 😀
I have shaved waxed and am now being lasered. Basically I would need to go twice a month for waxing or shave everyday and you know if you shave everyday its just going to not be snooth no matter what you do after awhile. I got my treatments from Groupon 150 bucks for 2 treatments, I'm doing a total of 6. I just finished treatment #3 and love it. Already much less hair growth and less shaving required (for a couple of weeks no shaving then the regrowth starts) lifetime touchups if I follow their treatment plan. So for 450 bucks a smooth kitty for life 🙂
I'm an epilator user...the Braun Silk Epil - and I love it. Waxing didn't work well as my hair is very thick and stubborn but when did use it yes, I became desensitized to it after a while. Just as I"ve become desensitized to the epilator. If you let it go for a while though, the sensitivity will return and it will hurt like heck all over again when you start up. I imagine waxing would be the same. Even when waxing did remove most of the hair, it would grow back so quickly and with it being dark and thick it looked awful until it got long enough for another waxing. With the epil I can treat every day or whenever needed and if you can SEE the hair, it can remove it! I really want to go for laser some day though and I'm suppose to be a good candiate too. One really great thing I do now is my underarms with the epil. That hurt like a b*tch the first few times but I've always had a dark underarm shadow even if I just shaved and that is now completely gone with the epilatore - I love how nice it looks now.
I'm asking Santa for an epilator - hopefully the Braun wet and dry one, its not cheap, but I really need a solution as shaving is just making my leg hair so thick and its too light to ever be lasered. I am scared that I won't use it because it will be too painful, but I'm sure it will be worth perservering!
Honestly I've been too chicken to use it on my legs. The thighs wouldn't be bad but I've tried my inner ankles and it hurts too much there. However, as I said you do desensitize to it so with time it wouldn't be as bad.
To be honest I thought the bikini line would be waay more painful than legs! I had a hollywood wax once before and it was so so so painful, I've never done it again! For wnt of a better phrase, I need to grow some balls! 😛
For wnt of a better phrase, I need to grow some balls! 😛 Now that would be painful to epilate! LMAO! I only do the bikini line and lower ab...I shave the labia as that area doesn't epilate well for me.
Hahaha yeah maybe I'll suggest that to the boyfriend hahaha! Omg am so excited, I just got the handspring! (just thought I'd slip that in, im mega excited! 😀)
Congratulations! I'm guessing it's a lot more exciting than epilating!

No one mentioned the best tip for shavers. Apply invisible deodorant stick to the area after. The deodorant salts prevent razor bumps, and the coating protects the skin from chafing.
Ahhh thanks for that tip Cassady! I'm a shaver too! 👍
I like shaving using hair conditioner better then soap or shaving cream. I'm only half way through my laser treatments so I still have to shave a bit although nothing like pre laser. And like Amy the place I go doesn't use the gel but the cooling stuff comes out of the laser.
i was at the doc for my cyst issue (theres a post on that in the health forum) and she strongly advised me not to use a regular razor on the backside area-i guess it would be the same for the genital area. she said the razor will put tiny nicks in your skin which for me makes me vulnerable to skin infections. so she recommended using a mens type shaver (like the rotating 3 blade thing) for any backside hair removal...just something to keep in mind if u have skin problems like me
