Setting up pole--opinion?

Hi! Just moved into a new apartment, drilled into the ceiling a few times trying to find a stud (used a stud finder but sound proofing plus textured ceiling don't give an accurate read). Turns out there is a layer of dry wall, about an inch of space and then a beam higher up. My pole is a lil'Minx with the inner spring. Where it is now is sturdy and holds my weight. But I guess technically it's only mounted into drywall. What do you guys think? Is it okay where it is? What should I do?

Find the head maintenance person and ask. They will know how to find a correct stud and mounting. If they need to look in your apartment and you don't want them to know its for a pole, tell them you want to hang a very heavy planter. That's what the ceiling mount is supposed to look like.

Leaving it mounted in drywall alone is very unsafe! There must be places that do not have this gap between the ceiling and the drywall otherwise what is the drywall attached to? Get some help and install it correctly in a stud please.

Drywall does not just float, as DB said it needs to be attached to something. Do not just leave it on the drywall. I can break the stuff with my hands......imagine how easily the sideways force from a pole can rip through it!

Hey gabbyg4353, I have two poles in my living room, a 50mm and a 45mm. I had the same problem finding a beam, my husband ended up poking tiny holes in the ceiling with the smallest drill bit so that we could map out where the beams were without messing up the ceiling to much, after that he cut a small square piece of plywood and bolted the wood into the ceiling beams then secured the pole to the wood with heavy duty screws. Hope this helps.
