The screws I had in my adaptor fell out so I don't think they were in a stud or the screws are to short. Should i have screws that are thick and 4 inches long? Will any screw work? If I can i will upload a picture of the screws I have

Wow those are small, we use bigger ones for sure. If they fell out you should totally make sure you are on a stud when you install again. A hardware store should be able to help you find a better screw.

Here's the new screws i got, i think these will work better. I got a new stud finder so hopefully that will work.
