Ok. So can I just be mad for a minute? For about a month now I've been working on getting my school newspaper (which prints 10,000 copies 3 times per week) to do an article about Veena's site and the place I dance at and the burlesque troupe too right? Soooooooooooo, long story short, they did a story on pole dancing. My teacher here and I met the girl at Starbucks for an hour or so and answered all these questions and stuff, I sent in three REALLY good pictures, one of my teacher, one of Veena, one of me and really talked up the site right? So I find out the article was printed today and I RACED to campus, seriously I should have gotten a speeding ticket. So I go and furiously search for the article and it's this little inky dinky thing in the back and the title of it is: "Pole Dance to a Better You". WTF KIND OF TITLE IS THAT?!?! can we GET any more generic than that? long story short, they used my real name, and major which I ASKED them not to do, they didn't even mention veena's site, the article was short, she interviewed people around campus to ask what they thought of pole dancing and ONLY included responses that were negative and they didn't use ANY of the pictures I sent them, they used some lame-ass one. i'm just really annoyed. i could have written a REALLY good article myself and done it much better- granted i know they have time limits and space limits and stuff but for cryin' out loud my dog could have written a better article. 🦇 i'm off to pout and eat cookies *sulks off*...................

Ugh this makes me so mad! THis is one of the reasons people have such a bad connotation about it, because they read crap like this and think we're all hethens and jezebels strutting around in light up thongs and spreading our lady business open to our kidneys! (No offense if you own a light up thong, actually if those exist I would like one. I like shiny things. Anyway...) I was a journalism major and one of the unfortunate trends in mass media is that reporters and broadcasters don't always do a very good job of being objective about the things they are reporting. That upsets me, and then we go back to the issue that's a constant topic of discussion around here, about why we don't understand why people think poling is so sleazy. I wish I had a magic wand with Hello Kitty on it that shot out glitter and made people more accepting...not just of poling but in general! I'm sorry this happened to you, it seems like you put a ton of effort into it to make sure it turned out well. Is there any way you can have anything in the article retracted? And is there a copy of it on your school's website? I'd be very interested to read it....hmph!

haha glitter ur awesome. But anyways this made me really mad when i read it! why would they only post the negative comments and not even put in the pictures!? I hate how close minded everyone is and how they dont look at what we do as a sport and as a workout. Ide like to see their lazy a$$s even TRY to do what we do!... ugh makes me so mad when people are so negative! we work very hard to make poledancing nonprovocative and they just keep trying to tear us down. All this just makes me want to try harder in proving everyone wrong. Poledancing will be in the olympics some day and we will be the gold medalists. Then lets see what their papers have to say!!

Awww Sascha....That suck big time, 😈 I know you were really exited about this.The best thing we can do as pole dancers is to keep on poling, and telling our friends how great it is. Its strange how in America we are really obsessed about sex...I mean we use it to sell everything! BUT pole dancing for fun and exercise raises eyebrows 😲 Hopefully some day they'll all grow up and no longer be afraid of the scary pole dancers 😂

Glitter you are too funny! Sasha that sucks! That kind of ignorance makes me soooooo mad! They definitly didn't not represent our sport fairly...so biased! Sorry you had to go through that! 😢

Sascha i'm so sorry! I would've been soooo mad!!! ugh people just needa get over it and realize that its not a bad thing. like venna said, we use sex to sell everything. people think that pole dancing leads to nudity and sleezyness, but what about our favorite movie stars? they're allowed to get naked for billions of people to see and people admire them! ohhh whatever. hopefully one day it will be more accepted

Joel (poledancefan) said something so true on a different post where he pointed out that if you go to a strip club, the strippers are the only ones labeled as sleazy and none of the patrons are labeled as sleazy! It's going to take time for the stigma to wear off and people to realize that pole dancing doesn't have to be sexual and that sexuality is OK!!! Fleur

Oh Sascha! What a nasty journo! 😈 For you to put so much effort into showing another view of pole dancing and have some pea brained, close minded, lazy and uninspired writer undo all your hard work is definately frustrating! You should smack some sense into her with your mighty pole. Or if you don't like violence, maybe you could write a counter article to the one she wrote. Wow... Joel is one smart guy. It's nice to hear a comment like that made by a man. 👍

Does your college paper have an email so we can all complain about the article being biased and stupid and dumb etc (formula one on tv now, brain going into overdrive with nnnnnnneeeeeeeeyoooooooowwwwwmmmmm) Can you post the copy of the article on here so we can all make intelligent complaints? Please. I made cupcakes today and am sending you a metaphysical one to make you feel better. (Glitterhips, they are chocolate banana with peanut butter chocolate frosting. All vegan and very yummy.) BTW, a friend who is a sports journalist is going to cover the NZ champs this year as serious sport. He knows that if he does a crap coverage, I'm going to chop off his dangly bits and wear them as earrings then make him do a lesson and post the resulting photos to all our mutual friends who are journalists. And I've not even had to say a word...

awwww thanks guys! you made me all feel better. i guess the article wasn't THAT bad, i wrote my teacher complaining about it and she said she was a little annoyed but overall at least it was free press....but i still feel like i could have written it so much better..... rouge, its not even worth it really to write them, but thank you so much for suggesting it!
