Why have I not tried this move before?? It is so much fun (though a little rough on the collarbone at first, I guess I am just used to rolling up, not down) and can be dead sexy when slow and controlled (getting there, lol). Who else here loves it? Stand up and give it a cheer!!! 🥂 🥂 🥂

I love this move too!!!! I'm no expert, but here's a tip: if you slide your feet down towards your head before removing them from the pole (so that hips are further from pole), it'll get the pressure off your collarbone! 🥂 🥂

I'm working on it, but I can't say I love it or that it looks any good on me, but it sure is impressive and hot when done slow and strong by someone else! I would LOVE to get a SM hold / dismount / stall to go straight out horizontal. Can anyone here do that...and how?! Is there a trick besides being massively strong and controlled?
Anyone have any more tips on the crushing intense pain on the collarbone for this one? Thanks to azriel for hers, but any more would be SOO appreciated! I think my collarbone is overly sensitive because it is prominent. I was practicing pole leg lifts from the floor, which looks like a shoulder mount but your shoulder blades stay on the floor. It was absolutely unbearable so I put a small pillow (the ones you use for your lower back) between my shoulder/collarbone and the pole. Yes a pillow, a tea towel or T-shirt wasn't enough padding. The next day I HAD A BRUISE! I bruised THROUGH the pillow! Am I lost cause for the shoulder mount? 🙁

where are you bruising? i literally do not roll over my collarbone at all when i do this, except when i take the SM to a super invert stall (thats what it's called when you go totally vertical with it, right?). you don't need to roll over your collarbone, can't you stay on the meaty part of your shoulder, if you wrap your legs early (when your torso is still mostly horizontal)?

georgiamarie you shouldn't be rolling on your collar bone, for any of the Shoulder moves. I have a lesson for the shoulder dismount and other shoulder mount variations here it is for ya if your taking them http://ver3.studioveena.com/lessons/view/2745 Make sure your far enough on to your trap (way up by the neck) and also be sure to tuck as you release down into the SM position for the dismount. If your not tucked you'll pass over the bone and it hurts! Good luck. 🌸

georgiamarie - the collarbone issue is what kept me from learning the shoulder mount (or dismount), I'm a bit boney in that area, too. I was so frustrated because everyone kept saying "you're not supposed to hit your collarbone" but no matter how much I curled my back and shoulders to keep the pole against the top of my shoulder when I reached up with my feet, I couldn't reach around the pole enough with my feet/legs to grip; so I would have to roll onto my collarbone to get that extra couple inches so I could get a grip with my legs. That "tuck" everyone kept saying was the key to it all was actually the problem... And honestly, if it wasn't for the grip I use, I would still be hitting it. I don't know if it's the combination of being boney and long-waisted or flexibility or what, but other people that appear to be built like me don't have these problems! Grr... I use respect grip - the one that Felix uses. It scrunches your skin on your shoulder up and keeps direct pressure off the bone (this grip may not work for you, but you could try). That's what did it for me - maybe someday when I'm stronger and more flexible I'll be able to do the other grips...
I find the trick for this one to avoid the collar bone is to keep your legs straight and your foot on the pole for as long as you can as you descend. This will help you roll down controlled one vertebrate at a time so that the pressure is on the back of shoulder. I basically get my hands into position, straighten my legs, and then slide my foot down the pole with my legs straight until I"m ready to V. Edit: I'm not sure if I'm explaining things well, so I made a short video of me doing the shoulder dismount. I'm trying to do it slowly to show the placement of my feet. I don't know if it's the combination of being boney and long-waisted or flexibility or what i have the exact same problem!! i have a long torso and short legs, and feel like i can never reach my legs to the pole! the only time i can get it is if i swing my legs on and immediately push my body away, but that means i also get a slight drop in there, which is scary. boy i wish i could be a long legged creature too =(. i'm using the cup grip, so maybe i'll give the other one a go.
Tonight at the studio I asked one of the girls to get it on camera, since I have not seen it (tough to watch in a mirror and concentrate on keeping control, lol). I have to admit, I was pretty chuffed when I saw it. I think I will be using this move! 🥂 I also have a long torso and short legs, and after seeing myself, I am thinking the SM/reverse SM has as much to do with being able to tilt your hips so as to give your legs an extra little bit of length. If you can do an inverted V, I bet trying the same move in SM grip would help you not roll across the collarbone. Of course, I'm a newb at the reverse part of the SM, but I've been doing SMs up for a while now.

Yay! Shoulder dismount rocks! 🥂 At the mo' I'm using it to get used to double cupped grip. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll be able to do the SM not only in respect grip, but also cupped! Ooh, btw, great idea to get the dismount on vid. I haven't seen mine either. It sure feels pretty though! 😀

I had the same problem, where even with a tuck I'd just bump my collarbone as I got my legs on. It wasn't really painful, but if I wanted to practice shoulder mounts a lot in one session it would become painful over time. That was with double cup grip, I think part of it was how much that grip depends on you really, really pressing the pole against that spot. So I switched to respect grip and it really did the trick. The bruising stays confined to the fleshy part, so even if I do have bruising to the extent that it looks GROSS it's still not tender to the point where it's unbearable to practice. Now I can SM until my strength gives out rather than having to stop because I'm uncomfortable. I hadn't really thought about trying to learn different SM grips, but it worked out so well now I'm trying to get comfortable with them all. I mean, the more diverse hand positions you know, the easier to make really creative transitions right? (hope so) 😂
