Hi Everybody, I've been a member for a bit but never posted. I'm Steff, 24 from the UK. I'm a pole dancer, fire performer and first and formost a HULA HOOPER :) Feel free to ask anything about hooping as it's a superb compliment to poling as it works your abs and biceps. Ooh, here's a question that has been rattling around for awile. What are the advantages of weighted vs. non-weighted hoops. If I were to make my own, is there a good reason to add something (I've heard sand or water) to make the hoop weighted. Thanks
Hi guys! I'm from Bournemouth Debss, there's a great circus/juggling/pole scene here! Hi Sparrow... not very long...about a year maybe, I started out with fans http://youtu.be/7aunqdQXZrE then moved on to hoop... Hi monary interesting question... I'm always bemused by this term weighted hoop because if you want to learn to do anything remotely fun with a hula hoop you want as little weight as possible!! I think these weighted hoops are gimmicks for losing wieght and abs toning, but I anticipate you'd get bored very quickly as their too heavy to do anything with! It's a myth that heavy hoops work your muscles better anyway. The heavier the hoop, the more it will go round on it's own, the lighter the hoop, the more you need to work to move it!! If you're a new hooper it's best to start with a heavier hoop (I recommend 39" /25mm piping). This will rotate slowly and give your muscles time to memorize how they need to work. But there's absolutely no need to add weight! A 25mm pipe will be heavy enough to give you bruises as it is!! The better you get the smaller you can go. I'm currently on a 33" 20mm poly pro (a super light weight pipe) which goes super fast and means you can do awesome tricks :)

Hooping questions: can you consider explaining how to get the vortex and how to master chest hooping and ankle and how to remove from ankle if we dont want to work it back up again.? now thats ALOT of questions in one, isnt it? but my hooping friend, who helped me learn to make the perfect hoops for my size is long distance too, AND busy with a new baby. I should introduce her to this site as well.
LED hoops - I wondered about making those as well. Im sure people have figured that out as well. afterall, you can buy tube-lights but it would be so heavy . Do you own an LED? how heavy are they?

Mines not a polypro and its not that h6eavy at all so a poly pro LED would prob feel like an ordinary hoop. V.pricey though!! Re. chest hooping it's a little like learning to hoop to begin with... your muscles kind of pick it up on their own through practice. I wouldn't recommend trying to learn waist TO chest to begin with....if your hoop is light enough start it on your neck and practice getting your shoulders in. Then try like mad to keep it going on your chest. It'll keep dropping to start with but plod on because you'll get it eventually! Also even though its a pain focus on getting your chest hooping horizontal rather than diagonal (feels easier slightly on the diag but looks sloppy). Re. ankle hooping do you mean lower leg hooping while standing or hooping round your feet/ankles while lying down? Happy Hooping!! xxx
Thank you for your tips. It looks like for chest i just need to give it time. I work it at all the contact points from hands to ankle but when I transition from shoulder to chest , i just cant hold it long at all. im thinking my back was more stiff when I started out, and maybe now I have a bit more wiggle to help work on holding chest. the LED hoops are SO cool, so that is on my wishlist. It's always good to have things to work toward. I graduated from larger heavier hoops i was making to very light hoops now. I am stuck trying to learn vortex, and how to get it OFF ankle when hooping standing up. Ankle hooping laying down looks like a blast so its a WISH for future. II have lots of work on my standing hooping to work out. Now I have to watch your fire vid when i get home. I am on wifi at school...thank you so much.
you will find the vortex a lot easier to master on the big hoop first...I have many different sizes of hoops, like poles, they are all good for different things. anytime I'm learning something new I try it on all my different sizes of hoops.
