Pole size 50mm vs 45mm?

Hi everyone, I am new in the pole dancing world and i need some advises before buying my first pole. Reading your conversations was very helpful in may ways. So Thank you all for that =) I am planning to order an X-stage lite, but i dont know which size to go for. 50mm or 45mm??. Ive played on 50mm, but Ive never touched the 45mm, so i dont know the difference. If that would help for your suggestions - i am 4.10" high and i have pretty skinny thighs . Please help =)

I know they always say beginners should use a 50mm... but every beginner i have ever met LOVES their 45. And they are still able to learn on it. ( Dont get me wrong alot of girls on here love their 50 as well) everyones different. I would try to find a studio and feel out a 45 first just in case you prefer the bigger size. I love the 45 so much. <3 I would say just go with the 45 but it really will help for you to go and feel one if u are able to!

I think with your height & skinny thighs 45 mm would be best bet

Thats deffinately helpful =) I did went to 2 different studios , but they use the standrt 50mm. I noticed that it was a little challenging for my grip-i felt it little ticker ,(i am new, so i knew would be challenging ) They told me that 45mm may be better for my grip, but much more challenging for my thighs grip, lockes - because i have skinny legs Thank you =)

If you are taking lessons at a studio consider what size they use. you might like to use the same size as your studio. also, if you are new, you might not be working on climbs and leg grips yet. while spins can be easier on 45, griping with legs, IMO, is easier on a 50

I am new in the pole world, but I have professional acrobatics/gymnastics training . Climbing , strength and some of the acro technic are pretty similar to what I do. So I believe it's just about time and lots of training to learn all the amazing things you guys do. I have a lot of respect for you all :) As I said I'm planning to by an x-stage lite, but my dilemma is - should I go for 45mm of 50mm. Thanks for your help :)

We're about the same height (I'm 4'10.5") and I have a 45mm. I tried the 50mm and I found that I couldn't get a solid grip on it to do anything on it.

45! You will probably adapt with the legs, but a 50 would be huge for your hands.

I had a 50mm, and found it hard on my wrists and fingers, I got a 45mm after a year and just find it so much easier for grip and on my joints. I didn't have any probs with thigh holds although my legs have a bit of meat on theml. I'm 5ft 5 with smallish hands, so I would say go for a 45mm.

I bought my first pole and it was a 50mm without anyone recommending or even helping me understanding that smaller sizes existed. Plainly put it was too large. I jumped down to a 40mm and am now beginning to understand that a 45mm was the way to go. In fact I need to sell my 50mm and go with a 45mm soon in the future. Also make sure you seriously consider finishes as well before you buy.

Finishes? What kind of finish woul you recommend ? I know nothing abot that either ? Also which free stand pole should I get. From my reaserch I only found X-stage and the star stand alone . I saw better reviews on the x-stage, that's why I was thinking to get that one, but if there's any recommendations - I'm more than happy to hear :)

I would recommend a 45 chrome...not as slippery as a stainless... And when you go to different studios it won't be such a stretch if you end up on a stainless. You sounds very petite and a 50 might give you some limitations at first...but I am sure as you get more advanced you will be able to work on a 50 too. The competitions r moving towards using 45 chromed mostly... I have a ill minx 50 and coated..the coated is great for beginners..but you end up growing out of it and it becomes a backup pole.. I have a 45 platinum stages stainless and love it..and I just the 40chrome from xpole.. I have very small hands and a short waste so the smaller size will allow me to practice moves I just can't do on a 50... And it's a stretch on the 45. I have to say the xpole is a beautiful pole.. I tried some of their older versions..but the new one is an amazing piece of a equipment.. Solid as a rock

Nice! Im deffinitely going for the 45mm. I was looking at the x-stage lite chrome , which i had no idea till now how important the finish is. I see on their web site that they offer x-stage standart brass!? Will that be a better choice !? its little priceier , but if its worted , then i may go for it . What do you think !?

Personally, I'd get the chrome. If you have grip trouble, you can use pole and it should fix any slippage. Brass is tricky. It can be perfect, too grippy, or slick depending on the individual.

One thing for sure is that there are many factors which will weigh in on how you individually will react to different pole finishes: where you live, temp, humidity, how you sweat. Brass for some can be too grippy and that can be a real downer, especially in spins. People like Veena and even the someone at X-Pole I spoke with once recommended chrome as the the preferred finish for first time home buyers. There are a ton of threads here on SV.com dealing with various opinions on what people prefer. Do you have any studios close by that you might be able to try different finishes out in a class? Also X-Pole does have it's Titanimum Gold finish for a choice between chrome and brass.
