y does it seem harder to use a 45mm pole verses 50? i have a 45 at home and use 50 in class.. when i get home what i do in class on the thicker pole i struggle to do at home.. Y is it such a bigg difference ?

the diameter is smaller therefore you have to squeeze more with your limbs. Plus there is less surface area for your skin to grab (hence the more squeezing.)
so the smaller the pole the harder it takes to work with?
yes and no. Smaller poles are good for hand grip and knee pit based grips, but is a little tougher for thigh grips. I personally feel that they get you to build more strength because you have to squeeze more. All diameters are workable though.
its making sense now, thank you. my upper body is def not my issue its my thighs.. and well i see i am going to have to work twice as hard at home. .. i think i am going to get another pole that is a 50 so i have both to work with

I personally have about medium hands, my thumb will touch my fingers just barely on the 50, on the 45 I feel more secure with hand grips. Overall, I prefer the 45mm to the 50. The thigh hold is easier on the 50, but everything else (spins, lifts, etc) is nice on the 45 and I can still do the thigh holds without much adjustment. The 40 I was still able to work with just fine, but I experienced a little more bruising because of the thin diameter/extra pressure needed.
I really like 50mm poles for leg grip (I have one at home, and it's what I learned on). So much so, that I am better at leg based tricks (like gemini, CKR, thigh holds, etc) than anything that requires a good hand grip. I struggle with anything that depends on a hand grip. I'm thinking of getting a second pole in 45mm to make those tricks easier for my hands, but keep the 50mm for working on leg tricks. I figure I can learn the trick on the "easier" size first and then try it on the other.
It happens a lot that people who start poling start on the 50 and like it because they are learning mostly sits and thigh holds, so they begin to feel more comfortable on it, then they try a 45 and it freaks them out until they become more advanced, then they love the 45 over the 50... This isn't always the case, but it happens often enough.
